Meta Quest 3 | OT + Review Thread |

Finished my first puzzle in Puzzle places last night and took about 3 hours to complete. That game isn't graphically intensive but even with the elite battery head strap charged all the way along with the headset I only had about 28 minutes left of battery so the Quest 3 seems to eat through the battery.

The day headsets are so small that its like contact lenses, implant or glasses, its gonna be scary how addictive that could be. The Fermi Paradox where alien races basically just come to the conclusion that its a waste of time to travel the vast universe when you could just VR it from home in a simulation nearly as accurate as the real thing seems all too real for humanity's future.

That's impressive! I played a lot of this game on the PSVR2 and I generally always split up puzzles every 50-100 pieces, so if I did the 400-piece version, around every 25% I'd save it for the next day! I did finish all the puzzles on the lower piece counts, but the really high piece counts obviously take much longer, but are still quite enjoyable! I do imagine it is the type of game better suited to the pick up and play nature of the Quest 3 over the PSVR2, which is not that slow, but the wireless freedom seems like it would enhance the game by offering the ability to play it in other rooms etc.

How do you sit down and play?
I tried to play The Room VR in my rocker recliner and the arms just got in the way of manipulating levers in the game. Had to lean forward the entire time.
I don't think there is a chair anywhere in the house without arms.
Might have to visit Target tomorrow to and buy a beanbag or something with no arms.

Edit-The Room VR is actually really good. I played for over 2 hours before needing to take a break. Need to charge up and go back in.

For the quest 3 version they added hand tracking and it works pretty well. I played it last night in bed till 1am just leaning my back against the head board and it was comfortable. The premium audio is also pretty nice. When you put certain pieces together you get a cool audio moment that I liked.

Yeah I don't think recliners are the move. I played a little Room vr in bed just sitting up but if you need to pick up anything off the floor you're screwed.

Would you recommend this to a quest 2 owner? The drawbacks on the 2 is narrow FOV, blurry text and picture and videos without any smooth motion.

If you enjoyed the Quest 2, you'd love this IMO. It has really clear text, a better FOV, and not sure what you mean by motion, but you can definitely enjoy watching media on it, and the MR passthrough is pretty useful. If you're a Quest 2 owner you're likely aware the default strap will be inadequate and the battery life without any additional battery such as the Elite Battery Strap will limit your sessions to just a couple hours tops.

People also say it feels more responsive / faster as well. I think once the Quest 3 game enhancements start coming out in a few months it'll be even better.

It's never going to be contacts, a possible majority of people can't even use them, it's a guaranteed infection vector/lawsuit generator, and certainly the technology won't exist in the lifetime of anyone alive today.

Similarly we're decades (plural) away from a genuine eyeglass device as sufficient FOV will require an entirely novel breakthrough in display and optics technology at minimum. For perspective the original Oculus Dev Kit is nearing 12 years old and the form factor and core design of 2024 products are basically entirely unchanged.

The actual realistic future is increasingly smaller and lighter visors like the Bigscreen Beyond. Microdisplays, circuit boards, batteries, and thick complex lenses will remain a requirement for decades to come, and strapping that much weight to eyeglasses will inevitably murder your nose bridge and earflaps after like 10 minutes. Current devices like Nreal/Xreal (which aren't even close to real VR or AR) are significantly less comfortable for even moderate periods than a Valve Index (which is massive, heavy AF, and 5 years old).

Just got my quest 3, not really comfortable with glasses, the whole headset weighted on my glasses, which put a lot of force on my nose.

The AR part suck, the picture quality is worse than Nokia phone camera quality; but I got to admit that the passthrough is very convenience for checking your surrounding.

The graphic is unimpressive at best, it doesn't matter how good of chip it has, it is a freaking phone, you can see rough pixel and edges everywhere, but the upside is the convenience, it is so much more easier to play anywhere without cable. The cast mode is amazing of showing off the device to your friends and family, it let you see what the user see on your phone, plus the app let you launch game/recenter/turn on passthrough for them.

Airlink on PC is great, just make sure you are close to your router, and stop all your download, otherwise the picture quality will turn to crap (haven't try virtual desktop yet). The battery drain during airlink is a nightmare, I get barely 2 hour play time in no man's sky, then it take ~3 hours to charge.

I am heavily considering returning it, there are not enough worthwhile games to play. I will give it a few more try, but I felt like it would be more "fun" to get a super ultra wide monitor instead.

The only sutaible type of chair for sitting down gaming is a swivel stool. At least in my experience.

We used steam vr and the quest link.

The quest link worked with no issues. Had access to the PC quest apps. Friend already had a few games and demos downloaded for his quest 2 on the PC.

It was the stream VR with Alyx and cyberpunk vr that just did not want to play nice.

Everything was being done Through a cable from a USB port.

We did not know what the hell we were doing so I fully take user fault. But it was all a confused mess of glitch.

I expected things to go more smoothly and it was not.
Probably your issue, you should use Virtual Desktop.

Not Quest 3 but I play my Quest 2 through PCVR with Alyx and I can run that on very high settings with buttery smooth high frame rate wirelessly through WiFi 6 with my 3080. It looks better than AAA games on my PSVR2 imo.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
So I picked up the 512GB Quest 3, along with Beat Saber (from what I've heard, kind of the VR "killer app"), and Vader Immortal bundle.

I've had it since Friday, and I've been doing little bits of Beat Saber - a few songs here and there, as well as just wearing it in pass-through and browsing the web with it on. The only other headset I've used before is the first generation PlayStation VR, which seems like a dinosaur compared with this headset. That headset made me motion sick and gave me bad headaches, this one seems better, but I've not been pushing it and have been taking things kind of slow. I set up the virtual desktop thing, seems pretty cool.

Today I had about an hour free and decided to give the Vader game a try - very cool! I made it all the way through the first "episode" which took about the full hour. Feel a tiny bit motion sick, so I'm done for the day with it while I rest up.

Can't wait to try some more stuff and I have a few PCVR games I'll try to get working with it.

Anyone got any tips for improving latency I have a 58003dx 6900xt 16gb Memory. Running Virtual desktop shows about 50 to 60 with medium settings I have a ax 1800 router running. Do I need to check my router its showing about 900mbs with 5ghz at the top? Little bit of novice to VD.

Set-up a dedicated router for VR.

Can't wait to be able to buy this thing. Looking like later this month or early next month. I recently upgraded my PC, so I'll be able to use AV1 through Virtual Desktop. Already have a 5G tri-band router that works great for wireless PCVR, but I'm thinking of getting a Wi-Fi 6e router when I get the Quest 3. Watching some videos now to research whether it's worth it or not.

So I got the Samba de Amigo rhythm game, and wow it's just so well done. I've put quite a bit of time in to Synth Riders, and haven't done Beat Saber yet, but from what I gather it's a similar structure to Synth Riders, just play songs and get scores, and that's about it. Besides just thematically having a groovier selection of songs which is a nice change of pace (Synth Riders songs are great though), Samba de Amigo just oozes charm (like you can zap all the different NPCs in the menu room and they all do a cute little animation, etc). The more concert-like, cinematic animations in songs and the structure of the game with all the different campaign modes, it's without a doubt the most "gamey" like of the rhythm games out now, by a mile. Scores are in the traditional S/A/B/etc ratings, you get experience which unlocks accessories/outfits, and you also get money to unlock more accessories/outfits, but everything is just cosmetic, different looking maracas etc, and I didn't see any song DLC yet (~40 included), but let's be real, the song DLC is expected and kinda welcome, especially if it brings unique gameplay/videos.

The mixed reality stuff was pretty good - but I actually prefer it off in this game. It's also nice how there's a good deal more going on than just the standard hit the note in each song too. Highly, highly recommend it, they did a great job with this one!

Give first encounters (a built in app) a try too if you haven't it's a really cute and fun example of MR done right, takes about 5 minutes.

What PC VR stuff did you have? Beyond Asgard's Wrath 1 as that's free, and is supposed to be visually great and quite good.

If you want to see something that shows what the best to expect from the headset is, Red Matter 2 is the go to game.

I would also recommend Walkabout MiniGolf on the Quest as well, it's just such a fun game, with so many thematically amazing courses - the Hole in One DLC gives you all current DLC at the time of purchase just fyi.

Have the Quest 2 and PSVR2, would like an upgraded Quest 2 but I think the price of admission for me is a bit too high still. 128Gb Quest 3 is $799 AUD in Aus, I'm probably going to wait to see how it pans out and if still a good choice when it drops to near $600 AUD, I'll buy it.

Asgards wrath 1 doesn't come with the quest 3 does it?
Also kinda sucks the sequel will have downgraded graphics as it's headset exclusive and not pcvr.
Im on the fence about buying this, practical fitness stuff and ping pong that can transfer to real life skill is a nice draw so far

Edit: seems you get asgards wrath 1 free for pcvr, kinda nice https://www.meta.com/experiences/846896660051683/

Stolen from reddit

Older Quest games that have been updated with Quest 3 support/enhancements.

I'm bored waiting for my Quest 3 to arrive so I decided to make a list of all the older quest games to receive updates for Quest 3 so far.

I know there's already a list similar to this but that's about games receiving future updates and I just want to focus on games which already have updates, plus I'm making sure each game has a source to confirm the update is out.

played a few more Quest-only games this weekend:

Pistol Whip - this game is AWESOME. Excellent graphics, game feels great to play, shoot on the rhythm, excellent cardio workout too.
Little Cities - very chill, reminds me of SimCity SNES, not sure how much staying power it has but got it on Quest+.
Until You Fall - I dunno, I was bored after like 10 minutes, might try again.

I'm a little bummed. I'm still not able to play Lone Echo as it crashes when trying to load when using Virtual Desktop or Air Link. I've researched and it looks like the issue is with RTX cards as they cause crashes in the game and it's never been patched. One workaround was the dev put up chapter saves so if you can't get past a certain part you can load a save which is not ideal.

Bam was a good buy. Works perfect for Mixed Reality and looks nice.
You can hop into a multiplayer match super quick and the matches are short. Perfect game when you only have a short time to play.

Just a heads up... Added breachers to my games today and played it non stop for 4 hours 😂
Had a headache as don't play that long normally but it's great and the devs confirmed it's getting a quest 3 update "very soon"

Edit - I've added a few top games with my 25% code if any of you guys want to save a bit and both win lol

Excited about pancake but realistically, it's just more vr with shitty vr games :p

I've just been at his place to check it out.
Yeah it's good. pancake lenses are good. sweet spot is bigger. No screendoor effect.
Black levels suck ass.
FOV still sucks ass. Closest settings, I still feel like looking through binoculars.

Shitty games are still shitty games. Launched Alyx and I would say it is worth replay in this due to clarity alone.

Stoked for all the Quest 3 owners. Keep the updates coming and please keep bumping this OT when you buy new games from the Quest store.

I've really taken to VR and will probably get a Q3 in 2024, curious to see what exclusives you guys get. 🍻

I got an elite strap and it’s just ridiculous how much better it is in every way. It also makes it very easy to adjust everything. I would argue this is darn well mandatory for anyone who really wants to deep dive into VR, and that is very annoying.
Hmm...do you mind explaining a bit on this point?
Is the default strap going to make things super uncomfortable? Does it depend on other factors (head size, hair quantity?)

I think shitty games is a bit too critical of a blanket statement but it is what it is, gamers are accustomed to flat games and VR isn't there yet so it's an up hill climb to convince people of why it's worth owning considering the entry fee.

There are some good games. To say something good:
Stormland, Alyx, RE games, GT7, Lone Echo.
For shitty arcade games, the ones that really work are of course beat saber, blade sorcery, job simulator.
Amazing mods for Doom3. return to castle wolfenstein, hl and so on.
Psvr2 + quest 3 seems like the best vr deal to cover 100% of games now.

But 97,65% of games are this terribe Fisherman's Style or Batman vr style of games. Constant talking, interact with some crap. 100% relying on you being in awe becuse you are in vr.

Default strap is uncomfortable and annoying to adjust. It’s just two pieces of cloth you pull, and it doesn’t have any counterweight or anything like that make the entire thing more balanced in the head. It works, but after a while you just feel like a migraine is coming on. The replacement straps have a counterweight (especially if you get the one with a battery), have a dial that makes adjustment easily, and is made of plastic that doesnt put pressure on your head. It's just way better.

Could not find it in the store and now I'm learning about side loading games. Quest 3 just keeps on keeping on.
I'm new to all this.

Once you figure that out it opens up a ton of possibilities.

I was playing the Knee deep in the Dead from OG Doom but with Doom 3 graphics.

OG Doom in VR is awesome too though. Tons of mods.
