The next "Console" MGS will be Rising - Doubt they'll just throw "5" on that.

I still consider Rising an offshoot of the series proper.

Then again, seeing as the series is kind of concluded with MGS4, maybe they will go with something different.

Hard for me to believe that next proper Metal Gear game that will replace the MGS series will be "Rising" though.

I'm starting to hear rumblings of a NY/NJ early release, but it's not at any of the stores I normally frequent. Anyone got any leads?

Holy shit. So worth the extra $10.

The CE + download is the only way to go. I can't believe I'm spending $90 on a PSP game. So good. :lol

Nothing yet, and gamefaqs my normal source is something I'm avoiding (well lightly skimming) because of spoilers. For MGS4, I got nailed with one of those 3 line posts spoiling everything because some got the hint book.

Anyone have any advice for the tank battle? The controls are totally confounding me for this part. They just don't effectively work for a battle where you have to change weapons while you move, constantly adjust the camera to move, and I have terrible cramps in both my hands just trying to keep up with the action.

I would kill for the ability to play this on a stick than the horrific PSP nub, but this is what I'm stuck with. Any help on this fight would be nice.

I tend to run out of ammo by the time the tank commander pops out, so I have no way of getting rid of him.

Easiest way to do it solo is to go gung-ho in Battle Dress. Get out your machine gun and sneak around to the back of the tank by going through the warehouse. Don't let them see you until you're ready to strike! Then take aim at the red barrels on the back of the tank. Blow one of them up and the tank will be unable to move for a while. That's your chance to unload your stock of grenades on it while it can't move. After a while it will start moving again, so get out the machine gun and try to destroy the other barrel, but it'll be tougher since the tank will likely be driving around now. Unload any grenades you have left if you didn't get them all out the first time. Using the RPG, it's way easier to take potshots at the tank even if it isn't stunned, so save those for last. After you run out of all that ammo, shower the thing with the last of your machine gun ammo and it should finish it off, but you can find more ammo around the map if you run out.

Don't worry about the infantry escort, your Battle Dress should be plenty to absorb most of the trouble they give you, but you can always pop a ration or two if you run into trouble. Don't worry about trying to kill the commander, either. You can destroy the tank itself if you have the right equipment, and he won't even pop out until you take out 16 dudes escorting him, so by then you'd likely have to scour the map for new ammo which is just annoying.

It's also possible to stealth kill the tank if you have a lot of patience or a well coordinated group of people to play with, isn't that right, bernardobri? :p

I've been playing the entire demo on sneaking suit, so I was hoping I could do it that way. I haven't tried playing the boss with Battle Dress. Thanks.

Also, I call lazy bullshit on the lack of infrastructure. This crap keeps happening, and it's beyond irritating now. Not all of us live in the same neighborhood as our friends.

Welp.

I lost my job today because I had to call in last week due to vehicle problems and had absolutely no way to get to work (couldn't call a cab or anything because I worked out of town) and I was still on training, but they failed to mention that we can't miss a single day until our training period was over. I had been there a month and training ended this week.

So no PSP, or Peace Walker for me-- don't get me wrong, I'm very happy that Peace Walker is on PSP-- I just won't be able to get it for a while now. This blows a goddamn fuck.

Yeah you can't beat it with stealth or tranq, you will run out of ammo quickly. Make sure you use the grenades and rocket launcher to kill them in groups. It's possible to get more ammo by using CQC on the soldiers and shaking them while they are unconscious. Make sure you do this while in the Metallic warehouse or the tank will blow you up.

Also isn't it weird that the rifle and handgun damage the tank? I mean they cause as much damage as they do on soldier.

EDIT : Yeah the lack of infrastructure blows....

Yeah it's frustrating. No one I know even has a PSP, much less Peace Walker. Do you have a PS3, though? That's how I've been playing coop with gaffers and it works great.

Btw, if you wanna beat that boss with the stealth suit, best thing you can do is sneak behind them and then CQC or holdup the soldiers one by one, fulton them, and then get out of the way. Once you kill or fulton an enemy soldier, a new one will enter the map at one of three points. The tank will stop until the reinforcements arrive. You have to get out of the way and hide when this happens or else the reinforcements could come from behind you and spot you. After you fulton all 15 or 16 dudes, the commander will pop out. You can tranq him without him seeing you, too.

However, if you only have one person, this method can take upwards of thirty minutes. If you have four people, you can simultaneously take out four soldiers, fulton, run away and repeat. That's what me and bernardobri were doing a while back. It feels really good when everyone is perfectly in sync.

Is the art book only available in the CE or is it available separately?

Exclusive only in the Collectors edition from Gamestop. Our store isn't getting extras of the CE either, I love when CE are actually limited too, damn you mass production.

Also: Is there a thread for those wanting to advoc party this up? I doubt any of my friends on my list will be playing this.

Agree. Whats the word on those bandannas? Did your store get them, or was that just an online thing?

As I've stated many many times in this thread, I have a launch 20GB. i can't use adhoc party, due to Sony's infinite wisdom.

My friends are way too bullheaded to pick up the game. They refuse to yield to my recommendation. It's downright irritating.

Doesn't really sound like a place worth working at, anyway.

Isn't there some program people made for PC that works with PSP? xlink something something? Pretty sure it works the same way as Adhoc Party, though you'll probably have a smaller pool of people to play with. Still though, I'd set it up and play with you if it worked.

And yeah, the only person I know who has a PSP never uses it because he does not play any handheld games. No exceptions. I'm not terribly sure why he has a PSP, but he will not even LOOK at peace walker. It's so infuriating! :lol

Ask duckroll about how awesome Xlink kai is!

It wasn't. I'm actually happy to be in a situation where I have to find another venue, that place was just pure fucking bullshit. You know, one of those jobs where the supervisors and higher-ups never answer any of your questions about speed/performance/etc or about anything basically. I'm sure everyone has been to places like those. Now I'm just trying to find a way to get this damn game :lol

I think people who believe that this isn't coming to consoles are a bit too trusting. I mean, it's probably true, but it's also business 101 to not reveal any such plans before the product is out on the market. It would totally kill sales if people knew a "better" version was coming out. So even if Kojima and Konami are saying that it's not coming to anything but the PSP, for whatever reason, I wouldn't just take their word for it. It'd be slightly different if they kept saying this after the game was released everywhere, even though GTAIV and many others tell a different story, but before it's even out? Forget about it! :)

Should have left the money at the register and sneaked out of the store with the game.

..seriously.

Trade 1 and get it for free is pretty good!

Might want to try it. The link of the promo seems to lead to a wrong page but it's worth a try.

OH MY GOD! I can trade in five games and get the green PSP-3000?

WANT, NEED, WANT, NEED. (Haters gonna hate, I still like that color)

Too bad I'm not in Canada. :(

Just in time for Sony to announce the PSP2 a week later.

REALLY wouldn't count on that. People who are worried about a PSP2 getting announced right after the PSP's first potential system seller for the west comes out need to think a little more realistically.

It could happen, but the chances are pretty damn slim.

And why is that? PSP2 could very well be backwards compatible with the current games.
I'm not saying that they will announce PSP2 any time soon but your argument doesn't prove otherwise either.

To paraphrase IGN's Greg Miller...

You can't get people excited about a brand new piece of hardware if they hated the first one. The general public (in the west) views the PSP as a failure, even a laughing stock. Marketing a PSP2 to a public like that is a nightmare. Sony needs to improve the public opinion of the PSP1 before venturing forward off of a rocky foundation.

Just take a look at launching the Dreamcast off of the Saturn. You could call it anecdotal evidence sure, but I think there's some truth to it. No one wants a sequel to a "crappy" system.

Last time I checked IGN wanted Sony to abandon the PSP and withdraw altogether from the portable market in order to focus solely on the PS3. :lol

You may have a point on what you say, though I don't consider the PSP as big a failure as some people are wanting it to be. Well, at least hardware-wise because we all know how much piracy has affected the software sales of the platform.

You shouldn't lump all the people who work at IGN into one opinion. Greg Miller is pretty much single handedly championing the PSP at IGN.

Dude, Crisis Core almost sold a million copies in the US. God of War probably sold well too...

Is this the demo or full game?

This works for the demo:
Hold up the guards by aiming behind their backs, auto aim helps here. Hold up 2 or 4 at once then fulton them, and run off up the hill to hide as more soldiers turn up. You can get rid of all the guards without using any ammo. Sneaking suit lets you run up behind people without them hearing you, so it's best to use that.

Been playing the demo some more to get ready...

Does anyone know how to hold people up? It seems that no matter how close I am, I press L to bring up my gun and nothing happens. Do I have to be directly behind someone? If I get too close, I am noticed...

That green PSP is so much nicer looking than the Big Boss camo version.
Yup, I decided to get that (my sixth PSP) over the Big Boss mainly because the camo seemed a bit off-looking. That and the fact that the accessory kit has a better looking case anyway, even if you are paying more (you get the face cover and the screenwipe as well).

Anyways I'm a lot more excited for this now that launch is next week. Portable Ops was a disappointment to me, but this game is shaping up to be a "true" Metal Gear Solid game despite the platform it's on.
