We all came to the realization that mgsv is a bad game.

i still don't think it's bad

it's just very flawed, especially if you're a hardcore mgs fan who loves how the previous games played and were formatted.

all of the perfect scores blow my mind, still. this game is NOT perfect, I don't care what angle you come at it from.

it's fucking not done! the bonus dvd with the special edition straight up tells us that! lol

A ten doesn't mean perfect. Every reviewer pretty much says this. It just means that it's an excellent game and, imo, I'd say that mgsv is excellent even with it's flaws.

What are peoples opinions about the scenes with
Paz in the hospital
? Especially the ending scene where
Venom wakes up with the butterfly.

There seems to be a lot of differing opinions in the spoiler thread.

The mechanics and the toolbox at your disposal are top notch but the sandbox you have to play around with isn't good enough. There's very few areas that are comparable to Camp Omega which is ridiculous considering how big the world is. Plus, i feel the pressure to fulton dudes ruined the number of options you can possibly use. I'd rather use distractions and slitting the odd throat while hiding the body to just knocking dudes out and fultoning them but I wouldn't get any of the good weapons/items if I played it the way I wanted.

I like it because it's the only thing that develops Venom as a character since he's just thrown in there as a twist at the end. Him being more guilty about Paz' faith and not finding the second bomb actually makes sense.

People don't actually think that though, surely?

Nah, that's on you. First time through? Sure, you'll want to get MB built up and play the metagame, but the 'drop in and play' structure of the missions and the unlock system absolutely promote repeat plays and experimentation.

I still can't in good conscience call this a game that deserves a 100% score.

to me, it's an 8/10. there are aspects of it that are a strong 10/10, no doubt. Clearly the reviewers of this game giving it perfect scores value those aspects far above the others. but other aspects are, like... 6/10 at the most. like the story! which I value most when playing a metal gear game.

Yeah that's how i feel about it too. It kinda sucks that a good part of the character development was optional and pretty easy to miss if you didn't hear about it somewhere. It was one of the few parts that seemed to try to build up the Venom demon thing.

Its been a few days since I beat it and its almost done sinking in.

Yeah some of the execution was faulty, but damn just have to say overall its brilliant on so many levels. Wouldn't want it any other way. Even for the Ep 51 (*spoiler!*)
I don't mind that they left that thread hanging.

What a cool send off for the series. 10/10

Excuse me while i go listen to this now:

That's because you don't understand what 100% means. It only means that the reviewer gives it his full recommendation. It is a game not to be missed. It does not mean that the game is perfect or does everything you ever wanted a game to do. It just means the experience is worthwhile.

Would it be cool if there was even more to this game? Sure. Would that stop me from recommending it to any of my gamer friends? Hell no, they should all play this game. 10/10.

Hi brau

Anyway, I've finished the entire story and I'm about 51% done with the game.
In my opinion, the gameplay is amazing enough that I feel most of the story issues aren't bad enough to hamper my opinion on the game.
I don't even find the
plot twist
to be all that bad. I thought it answered a plot hole pretty nicely.

That being said, I do wish the game got as emotional as the trailers did.

To me it still is the GOAT I wanted and I'm not going to stop playing it anytime soon.

I think this is pretty much where I'm at. The story had problems but I did like parts of it and what wasn't great didn't ruin the game for me like it did in 4 and Peace Walker where you constantly have poorly written overwrought nonsense explanations of things I never needed explained shoved in my face for 10-15 minutes at a time when I just wanted to be playing a game.

so you're saying a 9/10 is not a full recommendation? a game not to be missed?

because me giving mgsv an 8/10 certainly does not mean "don't play this game". it just means it isn't the apex of game design, which is a 10.

ahhh fuck it i'll never understand how game reviews work

One of the highlights of TPP for me, I really enjoyed the whole sequence.

TPP isn't bad, it's still a great game, it's just not what anyone wanted/expected.

TBH, end of GZ cutscene was a TPP ending spoiler.
You can see BB doesn't take any shrapnel, because the medic was in front of him, grabbing after Paz just like BB, and falling on him from the blast.

I still don't get the (med bay spoiler)
Paz thing. Did Venom just hallucinate the 5 tapes, as well?

Having played through the Phantom Limbs mission again, it finally occurred to me that Ground Zeroes may have actually been intended to be played shortly after putting Miller on the chopper.

Once you're on the chopper, Miller says "I still remember that day" or something and then a brief flashback occurs.
I think if Kojima had his way, Ground Zeroes would've been playable at this point.

Not only would you have already gone through the basic controls tutorial in the hospital, but upon starting Ground Zeroes at this point, you would've been introduced to night time operations as well as searchlight and weather mechanics as part of an expanded tutorial.
Then once the mission ended, you would be right back on that chopper with Miller as he introduces Diamond Dogs.

Where are they? Ive completed the game, and only fought 3 or 4 bosses.Possible to miss some? Also is there any other way to carry more than 3 guns? In previous games you could carry like up to 10.

Um from my own memory there is:

The Mist Unit in Phantom Limbs and Killer Bee.

Quiet. Normal and Extreme.

The Man on Fire. While you can technically escape by chopper, you're really supposed to bounce him into the pool of water to disable him completely. At which point you can leave without getting shot down by his fireballs.

The Female Skulls.

The Armored Skulls at the airport.

"Metal...Gear!?"

and...that's about it.

Also in Peace Walker, you could only carry 2 guns unless you had the battle dress. Be glad you can use 3 guns + the Bionic Arm at all times.

I dont really consider the skulls bosses, more like tough enemies. I just fultoned 1 or 2 and blew the rest away with rockets. Oh well, i enjoyed my time with the game.

They are highly unique enemies that only appear once or twice throughout the game. They are much tougher then your average grunt and you need high powered weapons and/or unique strategies to take them out.

They are the very definition of video game bosses whether you like it or not.

I'd give it 9/10.
The only thing I'm disappointed in is that some features didn't make it into the final game.

Mother Base, in particular, was supposed to be a lot more in depth then what it turned into in the final game. Though I still enjoy walking around the place, doing the shooting ranges, and just being a bad boss to my men.

I'm also certain that some of the "locked" staff members (Silent Basilisk and Zhang) were meant to have a larger role in the story. Otherwise they wouldn't be permanently locked to your staff.

There are other things too like the missing Mission 51 and Chapter 3. But this I can live with.

chapter 1 has the ramp up you're talking about. chapter 2 doesn't. but that appears to be by design. it's clearly episodic in nature and meant to be bite-sized stories that provide conclusions to most of the characters we were introduced to throughout the game. i don't necessarily like that style or design decision, but people in here are going wayyyy overboard in here shitting all over an amazing game because they aren't satisfied with the story

Oh no I still think it's an absolutely amazing game, but that's in spite of the way story is presented. Chapter 1 has this ramp up but the story is so sparse and true story missions so spread with hours between them that the stretch at the end of chapter 1 felt abrupt and then it suddenly ended.

Of course MGS4's avalanche of cut-scenes is not an answer, but something in between would be preferable. The way it is MGSV's story feels incredibly disjointed. Which does not make it a bad game, as the gameplay is still incredible.

Sure. They're welcome to. That doesn't make it a bad game though.

It's not bad but not great. It just lacks soul really. Gameplay is fantastic which makes MGO that more exciting. I was completely against it but after seeing some gameplay (finally) I'm sold. Looking forward to it.

Really? In what respect (no spoilers pls! :D)?

Ehhhhh, content really. It lacks those certain aspects that makes a Metal Gear game, Metal Gear. I won't really go into detail but if you've been through the spoiler thread, it's pretty evident. I just didn't enjoy the journey as much as I thought I would.

You mean the little flourishes like ice cubes melting in MGS2...?

I just checked my playtime for the first time. 62 hours and 45% complete.

I am still really enjoying this game. Taking my time with chapter 2 and not seeing what's so bad about it yet. Just finished 35, and doing some important side ops now.

Sometimes I just sit in the chopper and listen to Gloria.

Given the situation with their publisher I think it's a miracle we got what we did. It's a credit to the amazing talent at kojima productions that they were able to put this together in such a hostile environment.
