This is true.
It all comes down to whether you like the twist or not.
And the pacing is bad, but Ch 1 is like that too.
EDIT: Yeah what GreyOcelot said.
Nice. Yeah, I agree with you on chapter 2. I think if you
skip the reused missions
, it's got more narrative oompf and better pacing.
Anyway, good work not being spoiled yet! I don't know how I made it all the way through, either. You're almost there! Really interested to see your take on the 40s.

the team turning on each other, hints or allusions to the true nature of some characters, Skull Face still being present even though he's dead, the general sense of paranoia, the parasite being a theme for character relations etc.
), Chapter 2 is pretty intriguing. I don't think it would work as well without the events of Chapter 1 but it seems like Chapter 2 is tearing up certain assumptions.
Pacing is a weird one in TPP as it is partially dictated but which missions the player chooses to do; it isn't necessarily in Kojima's hands as it has been in past games, which is a pretty brave move for someone like him, if you ask me. It probably accounts for the disparity in people's opinions regarding it.
Having said that, I think I preferred the pacing in Chapter 1 (ever the fucking contrarian, eh?). Because of the choices I made, I got a steady but not overwhelming amount of cutscenes, tapes, overheard conversations, etc. It felt like I was piecing something together. In Chapter 2, it was narratively front-end heavy; every time I went back there was a new development, regardless of the missions I chose.
At the point I'm at now, there is a drought (I'm
rescuing the kids
at the moment). I find the second half's pacing a little too dictatorial in comparison to Chapter 1 but, as I said, I think the actual story is better. I felt I had more control over pacing in Chapter 1 and it was always a nice surprise when I got some more narrative, be it a huge cutscene or a cool little debrief.

Definitely got more oompf. The tapes in Chapter 2 have really gone up a level.
I'm still massively impressed by Tape 2 of the Skull Face/Code Talker conversation. DING DING!
Speaking of tapes, I think some of them are doled out at really peculiar times. A few are given out way after the event they illuminate so they don't quite have the (I assume) intended impact. Very odd.
This posts explanation of the ending is what made me end up enjoying it. I highly recommend people reading through it because it's a really good interpretation.
Also, everyone on gaming side saying Skullface is one of the worst villains going...Seems hyperbolic to me. Especially when you have the beasts and the cobra unit in the same series, don't get me wrong. Loved the boss fights but as characters they were pretty bad in comparison to Foxhound or Deadcell.
Also, I find it hilarious that MGS5 has a lot of elements from the movie pontypool.

TPP is the most disappointing game in terms of execution, narrative and storyline. Specially when it comes to MGS games. I dislike MGS4... but at least that game had a start, middle and an end.
At least TPP has the gameplay to make it better.
But so far.. i am ashamed of spending so much money on TPP. Kojima didn't deserve it.
Did someone approve me for the PSN community because it seems like I was just able to join? I'm just wondering if communities can be open or if they're invite only.

I set it to inviet only, so you shouldn't of been able too, the problem is that the group won't load for me, so i can't let anyone in, but i'm working on fixing it.

Anyone else like how the shooting feels in GZ more than TPP?
I don't know what makes it feel better. It just feels a bit "meatier" if that even makes sense. The SFX is louder or less muffled or something in GZ. Anyone feel the same?

I know what you mean. Felt the same way when I started TPP. The starting MRS rifle is just not the same as it was in GZ. It was not until I developed the top grade MRS that made it feel like GZ again (slightly). And yeah the sound effects are somewhat different in TPP.
I'm interested in finding out what it is that retroactively destroys the game for people. If I could just get another five hour session on the PS4, I'd probably find out!
Is there a MGS boss that is more witty than Fatman? I have been watching his fights again (No console that could play the games) and the things he says are always as witty as Snake's 1 liners.

You're not going to understand, even when you finish. I still don't get the logic of chapter 2 somehow ruining the 50 hours prior to that. The game's amazing. Most people think it is, but a majority of the vocal mgs faithful on GAF are hating. Don't sweat it.

Extremely-vague-barely-warranting-tags-spoilers (it's okay to look, I promise):
I'm going to take a dangerous stance and say that in most cases your ultimate enjoyment of the game depends on how much you value the 'Metal Gear canon.' If you don't give a shit about that (and I think it's been clear for a long time Kojima doesn't really give that much of a shit about that either), and you just wanted to play a badass game and hear a crazy, ridiculous story from the guy, then chances are you'll love V.
I'm an MGS lore junky but I'm also a gameplay first kind of gamer. Most Kojima directed MGS games reframe the one's before and the only one that bothered me was MGS4, though that was more because the entire package was, on the whole, a hot mess.
If it works in the context of the game as a stand alone, and it supports some kind of overall theme or point, I think I'll live.
Just finished Chapter 2 last night, and I feel very strange. In ways, MGSV was amazing and other ways it was disappointing.
When I think back to the moments I remember most, MGSV does a great job in keeping the memorable moments in-game rather than cut-scenes. When the game gives you a unique location to infilitrate (example:
CodeTalker's mansion
, the game really shines and you really feel like an operative scouting/infiltrating a new location. In previous MGS games, you would simply be dropped in a building and go from there... here you have to locate the building, scout it, find one of the best ways (multiple ways) to infiltrate, and then exfiltrate safely after completing the objective.
The cut-scenes were excellently done, but I do miss the lengthy story moments from older MGS games. The tapes help and are similar to codec calls, and I agree they do work better than code calls.
The only thing that I am super pissed about is the fact that I completed the part where Quiet
leaves, but I cannot see any way to get her back (PS4). I wish I had her back to play through some of the older missions to use different tactics. I just want to have her shoot a grenade out of the sky, which I haven't done yet. Maybe i'll check to see if I can find a backup save to use...

Unfortunately, there isn't a work-around to the Quiet thing on consoles, but yeah finding out the hard way really blows - especially if you feel you should go back and earn a higher ranking. But yeah, your first bit there really sums it up. One of the best games I've ever played, but extremely disappointing Metal Gear game. wow much enigma

Yeah i like it a lot. Still i wish this game was everything that kojima and his team wanted it to be vbut couldn't because of time/money and probably their own lack of management.
Hey brothers longtime fan who finaly joined.
I love all the metal gears and are really looking forward to mgo. I loved mgo2.
I just need the acid games to complete my collection. Should i bother with them?
