I'm so happy they are delivering on this port.

And the prospect of MGO on PC :O I hope GZ releases this year. I'd like to get it during the christmas sale - discounted or not.

This is surprising that there is such a drastic difference.

I would have thought that the 8GB RAM in these consoles would have helped for things such as LOD.

You still need raw GPU/CPU power to keep a steady 60fps, RAM doesn't help much with lighting. Also it's an earlier crossgen title and probably wasn't 100% optimized for one platform.

As someone that uses his DS3 controller on PC, why can't these people offer the option to flip triggers/bumpers.

The devs have been really receptive over on the Steam forums, I'd recommend you go request the feature, state your case for why it's important, and maybe it'll be there launch day.

I'm kind of surprised Konami went with the "screw parity" side of things. Hopefully they do the same with TPP.
I'm not too surprised. Kojima, regardless of what you think about him, really strikes me as someone taking a lot of pride in his work. That would include trying to present it as nicely as possible given each HW platform.

Objects are most likely still loaded in RAM.

You need CPU power to handle all the draw calls though, that's why bad occlusion culling (rendering objects that are not in the field of view of the camera) can kill performance in some (most?) engines. And if I'm not mistaken Mantle is supposed to help with this.

Looks like Jaguar is really holding the PS4 back, because I'm pretty sure the GPU would be able to handle that load or similar at 1080p.

PS: I'm not an expert so I might be wrong :p

Oh very nice. Shame these are vid caps, really interested in the IQ but that's obviously impossible to judge so far. Impressed with the lighting and lod improvements. Also if 1920x1200 is supported as in the PIC, then there is a higher chance of arbitrary resolution. My 21:9 dream still has hope!

Well if that's the case, I'm even that much more excited for the reveal of the PC version. Of TPP.

I seriously can't believe how much things have changed in the PC Gaming world in the last 6 or 7 years. It feels so good right now.

Why are you suprised? They had the same approach with GZ on consoles, with Kojima releasing showcase video in which he described differences between all consoles [most importantly, Xbone 720p60 and PS4 1080p60].

Kojima does not fuck around. :D

Wasn't part of the appeal of the Fox Engine that it would be very scalable, and that it would work well on a variety of platforms, including PC?

It looks like it'll pay off here.

Very nice, the PC version seems to be shaping up perfectly with lots of options and much higher graphical quality than the console version. A definite purchase from me.

I saw a number of people here say they need to upgrade their CPU... But doesn't that often force one to also upgrade the motherboard, and sometimes even the RAM? "Upgrade CPU" makes it sound less expensive and involved that it is :(

What this also does is make me want MGS4 ported even more. (Yeah I actually liked that game, sue me)

Doesn't this make it even less likely that it will ever be ported? What we're seeing here is the benefit of having an engine and toolset which was clearly created to be scalable for all platforms. They're putting in the effort because it is possible, and also probably because it is somewhat convenient to do so. If this is the standard they want their PC titles to have moving forward, they would have to put way too much effort into porting MGS4 for it to be worthwhile. The tech behind that game was a pile of hot mess.

I'm really glad they're obviously showing some love for the PC version, honestly didn't expect such a difference in LOD and detail.

Obviously I wouldn't expect the same level of technical sophistication. I think MGS4 would look plenty good just running at 4k with a solid framerate rather than at 1024x768 anamorphic (I think that was it?).

But as you say, Kojima might be too much of a perfectionist for such a "quick" port.

Wow at the differences between PC and PS4. Man, I already bought the PS4 version digitally months ago and still haven't played it. Actually, I haven't turned on the PS4 for months. And I also got a GTX970, so have been playing on my PC for the last 2 months or so. But I guess i'll just get the PC version of this game including TPP whenever that one gets released.

The only thing I don't like about it is that I won't have a physical PC version. I miss actually going to buy the physical copy and then registering it on steam and then never having to worry about whether the disc was in or not.

The increases shown here go above and beyond a simple resolution bump which is kind of surprising based off the slew of recent Japanese game ports which sometimes didn't even have the resolution bump. People were bracing for the worst. Instead we got a release that appears to thoroughly shit all over every other version, to a degree very uncommon for games from this region.

but digital download is exactly the same feeling minus having to fuck around with a disk in the first place

Holy crap. What a difference. If TPP is released across consoles and PC at the same time, there's no question that playing with my PS4 friends will become secondary. Sweet Jesus, that difference is real.

Definitely getting this and TPP when they come out on PC. Hopefully the rest come some day, when they eventually do their METAL GEAR SOLID ULTIMATE OMEGA COLLECTION for XONE/PS4 - hopefully the PC is a target too.

Very true. I guess I'm one of those weird people that likes to have a physical backup no matter what. Regardless, I still have a lot of games in my Steam library.

i mean, is there really any point of a physical back up when the game is tied to an account on steam?

Well, part of it is the fact that I like to collect MGS stuff. Another reason is that I've always wondered what would happen if Steam/Valve cease to exist, if their network goes down, or if my hdd dies and I'm stuck with no internet somewhere and want to play on another PC.

But you're right, it's no big deal, just me being picky.
