Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes PC specs released

wait, really?

Yeah. I haven't been gaming on PC in over a decade. I got one 2D game gifted to me last year, and I downloaded the free Black Mesa (which was light enough to run on my i5-2500 sans real GPU), but I'll be buying a 970 next week and I'm very excited to become a PC gamer again. I had the card for a couple of days before I had to return it, and my mind was positively blown by the IQ and performance possibilities that I witnessed in that brief time.

Well, part of it is the fact that I like to collect MGS stuff. Another reason is that I've always wondered what would happen if Steam/Valve cease to exist, if their network goes down, or if my hdd dies and I'm stuck with no internet somewhere and want to play on another PC.

But you're right, it's no big deal, just me being picky.
if i remember right, you'd need to connect to steam initially regardless of having a disk to start the download.

but hey, the collector mentality is hard to shake. just have to accept there'll be no physical copies of GZ on PC to use as currency in a post-steam apocalypse

you've got your first steam sale ahead of you very soon. hope you're prepared.

seriously though, pc gaming has come a long way even in the last five years, especially in terms of technology and parts. i just got a new pc this week to replace my old 2008/2009 build and everything is so much neater and in a lot of cases smaller.

The disc just has an installer with the game data and is useless by itself. You redeem the CD-key (with an internet connection) and then it grants you access to the game on Steam. The disc is completely optional.

If you really want a physical copy of this you can make your own cover and then burn a backup (which Steam lets you do) to a DVD/BR disc.

GZ will be the first game I ever buy on Steam. My initiation to the masterrace.

Be very weary of the path you are about to take. It will start with one game, but soon, you will have to use the search function in your library to find the game you want, and you will repeatedly try to buy games only to find out you already own them.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
Wow, that looks amazing! Can't wait to see it in motion.

I want this. The LoD was one thing that pissed me off in console versions, I am so glad they improved it for PC.

WOlf should never be used as a baseline for performance anything IMO. Other games with SSR do not add nearly as much overhead as whatever the heck Wolf was doing.

SSR comes in various levels of accuracy.

Like in COD its SSR doesn't do perspective correction. It's literally flipping the screen, and that's it. It looks OK, but the paralax is all wrong.

This MGS screenshot shows that the SSR is perspective correct (look at the headlight in comparison to the shadow on the wall behind it). I'm sure that takes a good bit more power.

Very true, but I am thinking more along the lines of UE4 or CE (that is perspective correct whilst also having variable gloss) where the performance difference with SSR on and OFF isnt so massive as the gulf in Wolf (whilst also looking a lot better).
