Metal Gear Solid V E3 2015 Trailer

How awesome is that?

That's dope af. Eli kinda reminds me of the feral kid from mad max 2

Sorry if old, but a solid amount of blonde folks' hair darkens or lightens over time depending on their environment - sometimes getting super brown even without hair dye. Also, I'm just speaking from personal observations, I believe blonde-brunette transitions are be pretty common with boys as they go through puberty. Still, I think the other Eli was probably just symbolizing the presence of his twin rather than actually being Solid himself.

Not a great trailer tbh. Pretty heavy handed with the exposition. Lacked build-up. Ending with Snake and Liquid was a nice touch though.

This is without a doubt, the best trailer i have ever seen.

It's a pretty divisve trailer it seems. Best thing ever for MGS fans, but not a lot for non-fans. Very fine with that myself. It seems like a very personal trailer from Kojima for the fans.

LAYS ON PHONE TARRIBES, Zero called it.

Kojima nails it yet again... Every time. I feel more confused and even more ready to dive into The Phantom Pain's epic story. Wow. All sorts of misdirection thrown into a six-minute trailer. All I could have ever asked for and so much more!

Okay so the concept behind trailer #1 is called Linguistic Determinism; it's the idea, developed by Sapir and Whorf, that complex thought can only come about through language. A subsidiary of this, Linguistic Relativism, is the concept of the language one speaks as a native tongue influencing the thoughts of the person speaking it; for example, it was found that certain Native American tribes didn't have words for linear time measurement, and thus it was supposed that they would therefore be unable to conceptualise it.

The extent to which these theories are true is debatable, but it makes for interesting ideas. Can a person be controlled via language? What if the input stimulus a person receives whilst growing up is deficient, lacking words for such abstracts as freedom or creativity? What if an entire society lacks said input? Hypothetically it'd result in a tighter form of control than fear, or force, or money, or anything else could do -- because those being controlled would have no means of rebelling due to the content of their thoughts being orchestrated, if you will, by those who provide the input stimulus.

I seldom see this concept explored in popular media before, so I was incredibly surprised when I saw it so heavily featured in the trailer. Wonder how it will fight into the overall MGS mythos.

What if the social theme (gene, meme, scene, etc) is Lexeme this time around?

I like this idea, I think the social theme is "race" for this game, which still fits in the general notion pushed by the trailer. I actually think that there is some merit in linguistic determination when it comes to determinate a social predisposition towards a word or sentiment or even an idea. I hope the game can explore this concept as well as MGS2 did with memes (actual ones not post lol cats understanding of memes).

Race is actually the perfect descriptor. Language fits into it more so than one may think. For alot of people, you determine where someone comes from by the way they speak. Whether they use any slang, have an accent, how they talk.....

Race..Language...I'm loving it. So far the writing is pretty damn great in conveying this idea.

Pretty sure it's a beret.

Yup, they just have it on differently because of the strap. So now I think the second Liquid at the end could be Mantis with his illusions (hell he's floating behind
fire Volgin
in the second trailer), and them being in the
Ocelot Unit
makes so much sense if that is what happens because they're on the same side in MGS1 as well.

The big trailer was....pretty damn nuts.

2nd trailer was a bit more focused, even if it was more promotional.

Either way, super-hyped.

Did some digging(meaning i looked at the wikipedia article) and the song used in the trailer, Elegia, was dedicated to the lead singer of a band called, get this, The Joy Division. His name was Ian Curtis.
