Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, overview trailer (Switch 2)

It should be possible to do that. Skip enemies and make through levels quickly.

They are still using those position based enemy trigger where they jump at you when you reach a certain point in level.
I feel like maybe we're drifting off into different topics.

I'm just saying combat could be hugely improved, AI could be hugely improved, etc. but at the cost of other, (imo) more important, aspects of these titles. Improving those aspects while cutting down on puzzles, the complexity of the map design etc. would result in a worse Metroid Prime game overall.

Player mechanics have to be right *for the game world*, and the game world has to be right *for the player mechanics*. You can't just import Destiny's mechanics into Metroid and expect it to work out of the box, any more than you would want to throw morph ball tunnels into Call of Duty.

Nobody is asking for Destiny mechanics or more involved fire fights.

I would absolutely love to see extreme responsiveness in morph ball transformation, switching of beams etc.

Then make use of these tools for more satisfying encounters.

Maybe some wall run, hovering etc could be added along with double jump and evade for difficult to reach ledges etc.

AI is fine.

More complex map with seamless traversal would be cool to see.

All the ingredients are there in this to make something amazing. Morph ball can be used for parry, block, with use of bombs to destroy enemies after. Can put different beams at holding a button that can be used instantly to destroy certain parts etc.
I don't think Nintendo will ever give Metroid an experience on the level of Returnal I'm afraid.

Not sure if this has already been posted, but this artwork kind of worries me…

It looks like Mackenzie is the only one with a distinctive design, while the others just come across as forgettable NPCs.

MacKenzie is one of the developer's self-insert. Expect him to win Samus' heart over the course of the game.

Easily recognizable tropes

You got the leader in the middle, the no nonsense Marksman sitting on the crate, the playful Techie sitting down, The Brute/Muscle in the back and the cool get-shit-done chick on the right.

I see people having the SAME narrative about Metroid Prime 4 and like did with Metroid Prime and how much did that sell.

Let RETRO COOK and add new things to MP series and EXPAND and sell #BEYOND4MILLION.

First it was "IT LOOKS THE SAME"
to "WHY MOTOBIKE" looks out of place. To DESERT LOOK EMPTY.

Now why "SOO MUCH TALKING".

What Next: IT DIDNT GET 99 on METACRTIC so....

I think it'll be 89-92 on Opencritic. If it surpasses that i'd be stoked. But there are more chances that it will be 86-88

So we've had two Directs about Kirby nobody asked for and still no Direct for Metroid Prime IV, whose follow-up took 18 years... Alright then.

Also, i didn't even know that Metroid has so many fans 😂… Now everybody is a Metroid expert and a hardcore fan.

Even after 2 directs, there are many still struggling with Kirby Air Raiders because most players aren't familiar with the game mechanics.

For a single player game with average 15-20 hours to beat, it's going to a deal breaker if many things were spoiled right before playing the game, especially for a series known for world exploration and adventure.

Man, it's so close now. I'm getting pumped! Been playing a bit of the Metroid Prime Trilogy to get in the mood.

Can't believe it's finally out soon after having waited almost a decade!

I was going through my Switch games physical games collection at weekend and realised that I only own five Switch 2 games: Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, Pokemon Legends ZA, Cyberpunk 2077 and Kirby Air Riders. This isn't entirely surprising as I am only interested in first-party games on Switch and Switch 2 and have no interest in third-party games (I bought Cyberpunk 2077 on Switch to support CD Projekt RED's decision to release the game on a cart). Still it did highlight how few exclusives have actually released for the Switch 2 over the last 5 months since release.

I found both Pokemon Legends ZA, my first Pokemon game, and Kirby Air Riders to be underwhelming. Kirby Air Riders seems to have a lot of content but it all feels very (very) shallow and slight with the sense that the game just plays itself (you don't even have to accelerate in that game). I am hoping that Metroid Prime 4 is a return to form for Nintendo.

Loved the first two Metroid Prime games on GameCube, more so than the newer Metroid Dread, and the Metroid Prime remaster was also excellent so my hopes are this game will be a real treat to play. My physical copy is coming direct from Nintendo along with the new amiibo for the game. Really looking forward to this so I will be avoiding reviews and spoilers over the next week so I can play the game with a fresh unbiased mind.

Its doesnt NEED it.
Besides Kirby is a NSW2 exclusive game.

Sure, the general audience either ignores Metroid or doesn't care... which is exactly why it would make sense to show more than a generic trailer. And they really need to keep the fire going around Myles McKenzie; it was fun at first, but a lot of people have already cooled off. Anyway… I guess we'll just have to settle for Nintendo App screenshots and the launch trailer. Yay.

Or just wait a week until it comes out

Why is this not $80?
The Switch 2 upgrade pack is $9.99 and it's just put on top of the regular Switch (1) $59.99 pricing.

Besides that, Mario Kart World has been the only first party Switch 2 title to be priced at $80 so far iirc. DK Bananza was $70, for example. Kirby Air Riders is as well.

Ah, I see. So it's $70, really. That's less concerning then.

Mackenzie stands out the most but the one of the left has black visor (distinct from the blue visors of the other two) and maybe a unique gun design (it looks longer, maybe a sniper rifle?). Middle one and right one definitely don't seem to have much differentiating them.

I want a new attempt at a Galactic Federation Trooper game. I know there was a middling effort on the 3DS. Something with more effort that builds on what Retro has done with them in this game sounds like something that could make for an interesting spin-off title.

Its Looking to be a GOOD SHOWCASE of the graphical compatibility of the NSW2.

Word of Mouth will sell it.

I know it's a spinoff but I don't understand why they need to get rid of the isolation. Also Fusion came out decades ago, we know the Federation are cunts, why would I want to be friends with them now?

They want to tell a story. That story involves Samus working with the Federation (once again), though to what extent, we'll have to see. I'm sure there will be PLENTY of Isolation and exploration at the core of the game.

I don't recommend playing 2 or 3 or both this close to the release of 4, specifically 2, that probably would lead to a saturation… 2 is long as fuck. Playing 1 is enough.
i may take my time with the franchise , i pretend to buy a Switch 2 on the next couple months so i ll look for some cheap copy of trilogy ( it ll be easier to find since is a Wii game ) in order to play them and then i ll play 4 on the SW2 for a better experience.

Even as a fan I would also argue that MP2 can veer into tedious and frustrating territory here and there. The light/dark layers sometimes feel a bit over the top convoluted late in the game imo.

Playing that right before another Prime game doesn't sound ideal.

It's the worst selling Prime game for a reason.

I think that both remasters are ready, but Nintendo took an smart decision.

I thought it was just Sakamoto spreading bullshit about Metroid Prime being a "side story" and basically non canon, that statement has always looked like he (or they) was envious of Retro's Masterpiece. Dude peaked at Super and then the only half decent entry after that is Dread.

Metroid is not a series that can take failures, it's this close to become the next Star Fox.

Metroid is a niche franchise, i don't think that Nintendo is expecting to sell 20 million of copies, is a game made for the Metroid fans, nothing more. Also, 100% we are going to see another StarFox game.
