Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, overview trailer (Switch 2)

Its origins lie with that stupid fucking GameCube controller layout so they had to make lemonade out of lemons. If there is any consolation Prime 4 seems to require higher dexterity shooting if the tutorial boss is anything to go by.
only if using mouse right ? cause i saw some previews and the "lock on aim bot" still present in the game

Gladly MP3 made things better plus the immersion. So this will be a downgrade in gameplay almost everywhere o normal controls. And good thing we have a mouse mode.

Even with the lock-on they are forcing you to target smaller areas on its body. I just wish these Prime games had a Hard Mode available from the start.

This kind of drive by posting is the worst. Doesn't explain how they came to this conclusion, just says "it will suck" and leaves.

The issue with Other M's story was how it treated Samus and gameplay was it didn't play like Metroid.

Samus was forced to obey a captain she no longer worked under, limited because he said so, not because she didn't have the upgrade. Samus having the most stilted dialog and CONSTANTLY talking to herself.

Gameplay was distinctly linear. Every save point told you exactly where to go and you weren't allowed to skip them. The game filled every part of the map for you and rarely did you ever leave the beaten path. It was just a Team Ninja action game similar to Ninja Gaiden.

So far only person we've seen talk a lot is Myles and he has a scan entry saying he talks a lot. No one else is like that and it would seem he's just a tutorial. Samus herself NEVER talks. And the gameplay is very much Metroid Prime. In everyone's preview videos, you're alone adventuring in silence for the majority of it.

So how about you tell us why this game is anything like Other M?
There is far too much logic contained in this post.

I would really like to see what this game looked like prior to Retro taking over in 2019. What did Nintendo not like? Did they see the success of BoTW and say Metroid needs to appeal to a larger audience?
The motorcycle bit in a desolate landscape, AI escort missions with cringey dialogue and enemy ai that appears to be really dated.
I am no longer a day one buyer, and will be eagerly waiting for reviews.

At ~$100 million, being one of Nintendos most expensive titles. I'm just not seeing it. Development hell is expensive.
Seriously, this game cost 100 million? Man, I think Nintendo needs to audit what's going on with the money in this project. I feel like a team of 50 reasonably experienced people with 20 million dollars could deliver what I saw in that trailer. I'm not being a hater, just going off what I'm seeing, a late 2025 game costing all that, made and published by one of the richest game companies out there and it's gonna be 70 bucks

We dont know how much this game cost to make aside from a rumor that popped up. But the game was fully rebooted after being years in development so that would explain the ballooned-up cost if did indeed cost that much

They restarted the project from scratch back in 2019, so ~3 years of development time was flushed from the get-go.

The game we're seeing now doesn't necessarily have a $100M (rumored) budget. But the project overall might.

Nintendo must have the laziest devs in the industry, almost 10 years to make this ? c'mon

Pretty much the opposite.

Bandai Namco was appointed to develop Metroid Prime 4 initially. Nintendo scrapped that project completely ~3 years into development.

The game was restarted from scratch in 2019 at RETRO Studios. So ~7 years of development by now I guess, which is still a long time to be fair.

It's a Switch 1 game at the end of the day. Doesn't matter how long of a development cycle, you can only do so much given the hardware limitations. If and when there is a Metroid Prime 5, it'll be night and day difference in visual fidelity.

thats my point, a game that look like that should be done in less than 5 years, for comparison KCD 2 development started in July 2019.

On a Metroid Prime game only as 2D Metroids don't have any problems with the shooting. And thanks, but I play the much better Prime Hack and Prime VR and will play MP4 with the mouse.
I don't give a fuck how you play the game, lol. There was free aiming in MP Trilogy and didn't make the game harder at all.

We still don't know the real scale of the game.
i m 100% sure that the game is not even close the scale of KCD2, i would bet my ass on it.

i m not hating on the game, just saying that is a long period of development for a game that looks like that.

You're just making up stuff arbitrarily. You don't know what has gone into this development.

As has been said, it also has to run on ancient hardware.

As much as I would love this to have more advanced graphics based on the Switch 2 or - one can fantasise - current gen console power i just think the game looks good within its context (a Switch 1 cross gen title) and that it has way bigger potential problems like just being a very samey unambitious sequel that could have come out 15 years ago or the genre of issues that Myles represents.

I find the og controls and lock-on very satisfying. There's great feedback to the lock-on hitting a target and the way she moves while locked on. It's like first person 3D Zelda combat to me.

Side note here but one of the things I always loved about the Prime games (and I felt this back when the first game out) is just how video-gamey they are.

It's hard to explain what I mean but you know what I mean. I just loved and love that. I don't want them to be infected by this obsession with aping the medium of film.

I love most of the story being told through text logs and environmental story telling. I love how they have no stupid pretentions of being """""""""realistic"""""""".

Not sure why shooting is being defended here.

Thats a low hanging fruit they should have absolutely tackled. It was fine in 2002.

Would it be ok for TES 6 to have Skyrim combat, like pretty much lifted from there?

Would have loved to see some melee action, slides and parry in there, if not full on 3rd person fluid jumping , gliding etc.

I absolutely love playing Metroid Prime Trilogy on my Wii. It's just so immersive with the wiimote and nunchuk. I feel like any Metroid Prime game will be a downgrade with any other controller. Well except for possibly VR controllers if it ever comes to Quest or Steam Frame lol.

It wont but we can hope for a VR mod for emulated SW1 version.

And in a vacuum you're right. But as we know, this game has had a very tumultuous development cycle that we're not privy to all the details. You can't judge it based on the merits of a normal development cycle.

Not really an excuse when it doesn't look like anything the Wii U couldn't handle.

Because it's built from the ground up on a system that is barely more powerful than the Wii U. What are we missing here? If this were announced as a Switch 2 exclusive and spent 5 years in development exclusively for the Switch 2 and looked like this I'd understand the sentiment. This is basically the equivalent of a game that started development on the PS4 and when it finally released, it released cross gen on the PS5 and people are wondering why it doesn't look like a bonafide PS5 exclusive. This game was and is completely designed around 8+ year old hardware. Why is it shocking it looks the way it does?

I want to see the final build of the Switch 1 version. Also according to a leak Prime 5 is already in development, i think this time we are not going to wait 19 years for the sequel.

yeah sorry I don't really understand the criticisms of the shooting mechanics. The games are designed with a focus on the lock on mechanic to weave in and out and dodge attacks while still being focused on the enemy. This is not Doom or Halo. It's not a hardcore shooter.

Probably from people who didn't play the original games.

I don't think they understand it's a First Person Adventure and combat is a very secondary thing and is used more for solving puzzles then fighting enemies.

Plus depending on weapon upgrades(element, missile, bombs/powerbomb, Phazon beam equivalent) you'll be able to speed up or fight more tactically against different enemy types.

Hope they go all in with Psychic powers and have you force throw enemies.

Holy cherry picking batman!
In no world is this game beyond Killzone Shadowfall in anything but aa and res. You picked a terrible cherry picked screenshot of killzone shadowfall and then use a cutscene bullshot from metroid well played. Killzone has better materials, asset quality, lighting and honestly almost every metric. They have improved metroid graphics from the earlier released media for which I am happy but it still looks like a cross gen title between the ps3 and ps4 gen which makes sense with the switch 1 roots.

I prefer to use real gameplay footage images instead of bullshot, especially during the super bullshot era, when the devs published too much bullshot instead of real gameplay images for actual representation.

Real in-game cutscenes from actual gameplay.

It should be mandatory to every new console to have DLSS, Sony and MS going AMD again for next gen should be considered a crime

At a much higher resolution too. You pretty much ended the debate.

Yep.
Killzone Shadowfall - Single Player mode ~1080p/~30fps.
Multiplayer mode -Fake 1080p (got many negative criticisms for misinformation about actual resolution that they had to give out a statement on the website)
Metroid Prime 4 - 4k/60fps and 1080p/120fps docked mode.

The importance of having clear IQ and no piss filter.

It's refreshing to see Samus interact with the Galactic Federation and other non combatant living beings. I'm glad Retro doesn't listen to you guys.

Will having better gameplay mechanics make it a worse game?

Indiana Jones TGC comes to mind.

They had slighly dumber enemies than average stealth game, thats lore accurate and helps make exploration (which is focus of the game) more enjoyable.

Whats the benefit of not having great mechanics here?

You are just dealing with typical old school Nintendo fanboy stuff here on this point, you won't get any good responses.

I must admit I did laugh when the "it's a FIRST PERSON ADVENTURE!!!!" defense appeared - it took me back 20 years.
