Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, overview trailer (Switch 2)

Most dark and best art Retro studio has output so far in Metroid Prime games imo.

I think 2 weeks from now most of us will be blown away when we see all the nook and cranies of the map they've made.

Well yeah hopefully. If they didn't have the thing where every single room in each level is unique I think I'd be devastated lol.

I always loved how no two rooms were the same, while maintaining a cohesive and logical look and style to any pair of rooms within a level/environment. There was no copy and pasting in those games.

I remember stopping to take in every detail of every room. I remember having favourite 'little rooms' - how many games can you say the art direction or architecture and interior design of one tiny insignificant room was so striking that you declared it the best room yet to yourself, you know?

They would weave in the design motifs throughout every space so well.

So every new space was interesting to look around. Even the ceilings and floors. You could see the love and care put into every space by the environmental artists and level designers.

The art direction in these game has always been incredible.

This is actually surprisingly HR Giger which is cool by default and what the originals were heavily inspired by. Alien and all. Very into it!

I absolutely want Metroid to innovate and change.
Making a fourth episode of the Prime series... this ain't it, chief.

They chose to make changes of the wrong things.

How about creating a new 3D 3rd person series, or even continuing with Metroid 6 in 3D ? There's a lot of ways to innovate with the gameplay of Metroid, given it's a unique blend of action, platforming and shooter.

But no, let's stay with tank Samus and "innovate" by giving her a bike (speedbooster anyone ?) and useless chat with federation troopers ! Replays are gonna be amazing !
The mix between a 3rd person view and first person view sounds like something that we already have…

Considering Metroid is inspired by Alien and HR Giger created the Alien, I'm surprised it took this long for a Metroid game to have that style

They don't really seem that alike to me, at all. Bit of a stretch to say the least.

It looks good, though.

The creators of Metroid said in an old interview that Metroid was inspired by Alien. Samus being a woman, focus on atmospheric loneliness, the advance stages of Metroids look like Xenomorphs. Hell, Ridley was named after Alien creator Ridley Scott.

I was talking about the design comparison being made with the images.

i m playing prime for the first time and i have a huge innovation idea that would be great, ( idk if the other games have it ) fucking VO for the infinity amount of scans, i already red 3 bibles worth of text and i m at 50% of the first game, half of my play time was standing still reading text.

What would that add except additional cost of voice acting and scripting? Do you really want Samus babbling to herself?

Writing is a far more efficient way to communicate information to the player than spoken audio wherein somebody reads text or describes events or whatever.

It takes less time to read a page in a book then it does to hear it read out on an audiobook, hence why they are often so long.

That's a great idea, but the prime games have a massive amount of text… But an option in the accessibility tag could work.. a AI voice or something like that.

Nintendo sells this game like water in the desert and the cost to make them its not even close to something like Cyberpunk, i think they can afford some VO for QoL, even AI voice would be great.

You can put ADAM ( idk if he is part of prime games but he is on Dread ) to do the VO for the infinity amount of text, also you can put a option do disable or enable this feature.

About the read/hear thing at least i can progress while listening things i dont have to be stationary every 10 seconds to read some new text.

Infinity amount of text is a pretty silly way to describe it, the games really don't have that much text. Each log or scan is usually quite small. I bet if you added up all of the scan texts together it wouldn't be very much.

I do take your point though about being able to listen and take in information while moving around.

That could be an additional different option giving more flexibility. A neural voice vocalising the written text would be fine for they purpose, we don't need dramatic readings of basic notes/descriptions.

Not a bad about having an onboard suit AI read scans out to you. But I would personally want that as an option (i like reading the text) and also players selecting it would need a sort of time stamped and subject indexed log of all the text versions of any audio vocalised by the AI.

Otherwise they could easily not hear a line because of in-game or real-world noises or interruptions.

thats exactly my point, even if the amount of text isnt that great, it breaks the flow of the game and exploration imo.

Would be a great QoL feature for sure. I was thinking the same thing while playing the Remaster.

But since it's Nintendo, any voice acting expectations are automatically set to zero for me.

Xenoblade games has a lot of VA, it's not about Nintendo is more like a design choice from the devs.

Yeah, but Xenoblade isn't as intrinsically tied to Nintendo's EPD developers as Metroid/Mario/Zelda. They've always been extremely careful with VA for those kind of series that were born during the NES era.

Although I guess Metroid has been better/experimented more than most in that regard.

I don't find it does that. I am engrossed in the game. Reading that information means I actually take it in. It cannot be interrupted by anything. When you open a scan, the only thing you need to focus on is the minute amount of text in it and the implications of that text.

Personally I've never had any problem with scanning to receive small amounts of text. If anything, I find it draws me in. You can't mishear text. You can't have text interrupted by other noises.

Thats why i said is more a design choice from the devs… BTW Metroid Other M has a lot of VA…

Yeah, but "the devs" are RETRO Studios. Someone like Kensuke Tanabe, or probably most senior developers from EPD, could chime in and stop a decision like that because it's not in line with their vision. So in that case it wouldn't necessarily be the developers decision.

Monolith Soft will not face those same creative constrains as their series is not tied to Nintendo's internal teams in that way.

I've spent 20 hours playing GODDAMN Kirby air ride in the last week. 20 HOURS on a racing game I still don't understand. Nintendo is absolutely over 9000 this year and that train isn't stopping in December guys and gals.

I have no doubt that prime 4 will be a great game and that is coming from someone who has grown up with Metroid. I will be the first one to admit, yeah the second trailer threw me off with the return of "muh federation bros". Its different sure, but Retro doesn't fuck around and Nintendo most certainly takes their first party properties extremely seriously.

The thread responses are giving me Castlevania Mirror of Shadows flashbacks. Plenty of folks shitting all over that game and Mercury Steam and it was the same shit then as it is now: enragement farming from people that didn't play the preceding titles and didn't play that game...just took the time to shit all over it. They were wrong then and people here are wrong now.

I think the game will be great, and I am fully willing to stand in front of the firing squad if it is a complete abomination but that will be based on my opinion from playing the game.

Also, rom is out in the wild so you all will get your impressions (without a day 1 patch) soon enough.

I am talking specifically about the VA in the scan visor… Did you watched the overview trailer? because this game is going to have a lot of VA.

I've seen the trailer and I've played all the games.

I'm just saying, I don't think it's the same scenario as Monolith Soft and Xenoblade. But yes, as I mentioned, Metroid has been better than most Nintendo franchises when it comes to this stuff.

Excuse me? Who are you accusing of 'engagement farming'? Who are you accusing of not havng played the previous games?

This game has VA for the scan interface? Or are you talking about Other M?

I don't remember that from the trailers.

Incoming a bunch of clowns from YT spoiling everything in the YT thumbnails… Time to

We are talking about the idea of the Scan Visor having VA.
Are the scan entries voice acted? Pretty sure it's still just "Entry added to logbook" and you just read it.

I would not be opposed to picking up or scanning audiologs. I love audio logs. If MP4 has that kind of stuff like Doom 3 does then that would be hype.

Mister Wolf Mister Wolf Look forward to Day 1 full game movies and spoiling Final Boss or the typical "Do these 10 things". It's gonna happen.

I hate that shit with a passion.

Personally I will be trying to trim my YT algorithm as much as I can by going back and deleting as many Metroid-related videos from my watch history as I can.

It is a very, very annoying modern problem though. You just get served up spoiler after spoiler completely unbidden. If the spoiler isn't in the thumbnail it's in the title, often both. You can avoid the Home page - as I generally do - but you get suggested videos at the end of videos, and that's even if you've got Auto Play turned off.

It's exasperating. It's really frustrating that YouTube won't give users access to a good set of options for blocking certain types of video.

On Twitter you can block keywords and for certain amounts of time, I wish YouTube had had controls like that for a decade. Its user hostile that they don't have them.

No, who are you talking about?

Please, enlighten us.
I don't recognize you...sorry Felicia.

Unless you are a Manabyte alt which would check out actually.

But..."the people here are wrong now" is a general/blanket statement for the grifters/butt hurt console warriors who live to swoop and poop on the latest "thing to hate".

Well you can't be talking about me, because I've said that I've completed all the Prime games and that I'll definitely get around to playing this at some point.

I'm also not just in this thread to shit on the game, in fact I'm in here because I'm a fan of the series and very interested in this sequel. I'm actually quite invested in and hopeful for it being good.

So who were you talking about?

p.s. - I'm not anybody's alt, either. Keep being amused by this accusation, the casual paranoia here is something else. This is the first and only account I've ever had here. Sorry to disappoint you but I'm just me and not whoever you're harbouring a grudge against.

Can we use:

Metroid Prime 4 IOTl The Crying Game

I have a feeling it will be fitting for the thread.
I would go with Metroid Prime |OT|: Mega Ma'an 4

Also, since Samus now has the Metroid gene awakened in Dread line, would be amazing a game focused on she getting her abillities exclusive from Bosses.
