Metroid: Samus Returns (Mercury Steam, Metroid 2 reimagining, 9/15) announced for 3DS

Actually it looks great for a 3DS game, and it's 60fps. Some rooms look better than others, but that's also due to the art.

And for those worried about MS doing it, well, there's a solid base here and they aren't that bad. Like other people said we don't know the circumstances around LoS2 development.

People should be concerned with the developer more than the visuals.

They have proven with two Castlevania games that they don't know how to do this type of game if their studio depended on it.

Nintendo better have deep oversight, or you're going to see a game with deep canyons.
Except that Konami didn't supervise it and here they just have to remake the game in 3D and not create it from scratch.
And that's a lot different to create from scratch a game than copypasta it in new textures-engine.
People should learn a little about development...

Pleas for the love of god do not let Sakamoto write any dialogue in this game.

UNBELIEVABLE!!

For YEARS, a lot of you would bitch about the lack of Metroid at these events. Now we get not one but TWO Metroid announcements.

All I read is
"It's ugly"
"Looks easy"
"AM2R looks better"
"Eww, it's on 3DS"

Just....wow....

Gamers are 97% Dudley Dursleys

I feel like I'm the only one who played AM2R and thought "this is an okay fan game that they put effort into," and then stopped halfway through because it was still clearly a rough fan game and didn't see why everyone was freaking out about it.

No. GAF was very vocal about Nintendo not supporting AM2R and making it an official game but I always felt it wasn't up to that quality. It looked very rough and made bad game design decisions.

This game looks like a ton of effort was put into it. I think people that think AM2R looks better are nuts.

AM2R is a fantastic game.

But this looks like it will be very different from AM2R, both visually and in gameplay.

So quit the AM2R comparisons.

I agree. Like this won't retroactively invalidate AM2R's place and it's different enough that it might be an interesting and fun new take. I'm in.

Wasn't expecting to get any more 3DS games. Guess I'll get one more. AM2R was great and I'm excited to try the official take on a Metroid 2 remake. Will probably way till a B2G1 deal for it though.

I sold my launch 3DS a few weeks ago

This is why you never sell your consoles/handhelds folks, unless the upgrade is backwards-compatible of course

Like always, Nintendo does work with just okay developers and makes them do good stuff (see Eternal Darknes, all of Rare)

ALSO YAAAAAAS

I feel like I'm the only one who played AM2R and thought "this is an okay fan game that they put effort into," and then stopped halfway through because it was still clearly a rough fan game and didn't see why everyone was freaking out about it.

I guess it's kinda like finding about Newer Super Mario Bros Wii now.
Boy, is it garbo...

I'm happy, looks good - just like the 2.5D Metroid I always imagined would look on 3DS. I bet it looks pretty cool with the 3D depth on the backgrounds.

I bet this gets ported to the Switch before the release of Prime 4. No way this stays stuck on 3DS forever. It'll be used to hype up release of Prime 4 even more.

SMH at the people thinking the game looks Ugly. Sure its not Sprites like AM2R but come on doesnt look that bad. Looks like Metroid and It plays like Metroid.

Dispite Mercury Steam questionable last game I dont think Nintendo will let them release shovelware on its key franchise.

Not really a fan of remakes that are nothing like the original. It's not like there's much story anyway so why not just call it a new game if you change everything? But at least it doesn't look like a straight Super Metroid ripoff like Zero Mission and AM2R, but may have more of an identity of it's own

Yup, this game is looking great. Visuals and music seem to be on point. More importantly, the gameplay seems really fast and responsive.

Mercury Steam initially scared me, but this is looking good. 3DS games are just so fucking ugly. The idea that anyone would prefer this over nice 2D sprites boggles my mind.

Watch the Treehouse demo if you aren't, this looks pretty good imo! Just happy to see something that looks like a traditional Metroid game.

Eager to be proven wrong but Mercury Stream is 1 for 3 as far as im concerned.

Sakamoto was involved with Other M and thats the worse Metroid game by far.

This seems like a dumb comment. Like, if you were wanting a pizza for weeks, and you finally go to get one and it tastes and looks like shit, are you just happy because you finally got that pizza?

But you also got a picture of a pizza box that looks a lot like a box of good pizza you had a decade ago!

Dammit! I got rid of my 3DS... I wonder if this will get a release on the Switch? Hate to rebuy a 3DS for one game, even if it is Metroid.

It looks really neat on stream! I liked the trailer as well. I'm glad they're continuing support for the 3DS as that really is a pretty wonderful system.

2 Metroid titles announced in one day? And I'll be able to play one of them in a few months? I'm really happy right now.

Damn straight, especially when pretty much NO ONE expected any kind of Metroid announcements. I never would've thought this could've happened.

Yea and despite the graphics it looks very good. Also like the little bit of the music I've been able to hear. Really sounds like Metroid.

Looks dope as fuck. Kind of like if they took the look of the Prime games and made it into a strictly 2D game.

Oh shit at that Norfair music.

New 2D handheld Metroid and new console Prime. Everything is okay now.

I'm cool with how it looks. I wasn't expecting sprites.

For real this is like a dream come true.

Ive been saying for years: do a 2D Metroid on 3DS and a 3D Prime on console (WiiU back then but Switch now)

Nintendo killed it. Im so happy right now.

I think it'll be good. I'd like to hope Mercury Steam does a better job under Nintendo than they did with Konami.

From what I gather, Konami pretty much left them to get on with making the CV games, but Nintendo is typically very hands-on with freelance stuff, at least regarding quality control. I think we'll be alright.

I feel like I'm the only one who played AM2R and thought "this is an okay fan game that they put effort into," and then stopped halfway through because it was still clearly a rough fan game and didn't see why everyone was freaking out about it.

...actually that's exactly my experience as well, only got about half way in.

don't get me wrong, it was well done and a great love letter to the franchise but I felt a lot of why it worked was because the pieces were already in place via the GBA Metroid titles and of course the Metroid 2 base itself.
