Metroid: Samus Returns (Mercury Steam, Metroid 2 reimagining, 9/15) announced for 3DS

I think this looks great watching the stream (would really pop if we also get a switch version on the eshop in 720/1080 w 60fps). I'm not too concerned about MS being the developer, its a remake of Metroid II which has a solid foundation and I can't imagine Nintendo isn't overseeing development like a hawk.

The art direction is a bit lacking, but the gameplay looks good, and the upgrades all seem appealing. The music and sound direction also seem solid.

I think it looks fine so far. I'm certainly not upset by the game footage their showing.

Analogy doesn't hold water as I think this pizza looks and tastes alright, I just wish it was in more than one box.

(Yes I wish this was on Switch too but I'm glad Prime 4 got announced anyway)

I have no idea if the game will be good, just from a cursory glance it seems fine. My point was simply that people are completely entitled to criticize the game regardless of whether they've been waiting for a new Metroid for a while.

I don't know if Mercury Steam came up with the idea, but am I the only one who thinks Samus having short range/melee moves is actually a REALLY good idea? It makes so much sense and it was something I never really realized was missing before, although I guess Fusion had it's own ZSS mechanics, but never before in her suit. And it looks to be done WAAAY better than in Other M

UNBELIEVABLE!!

For YEARS, a lot of you would bitch about the lack of Metroid at these events. Now we get not one but TWO Metroid announcements.

All I read is
"It's ugly"
"Looks easy"
"AM2R looks better"
"Eww, it's on 3DS"

Just....wow....

Well it is in fact an ugly looking game being made on awful hardware by a developer with a dubious track-record. Do you want us to fellatio it because of the brand name alone or something?

So in 2017 we've had remakes of Fire Emblem Gaiden and now Metroid II for the 3DS. All we need now is a Zelda II remake and we'll have the entire 8-bit Nintendo black sheep sequel trifecta.

Also, is that the Lower Norfair theme I heard?

Hot takes, folks:

Was this in development before or after the AM2R reveal?

I'm not trying to stir up trouble, I love Metroid no matter how I get it.

I want to be excited but I haven't cared for anything Mercury Steam has done so this is something I'm going to need feedback on. Hoping for the best, of course.

This Treehouse demo is FANTASTIC

Tight shooting, fluid movement, 360 aiming, laser sights, counters for crits, scan pulse, filling in the map in real-time on the bottom screen, map annotations with pins... SO GOOD.

I can't wait to see this in stereoscopic 3D, it looks gorgeous. Love the gold-and-lavender color scheme. CAN'T WAIT.

Anyone else noticing there's a lot of reused Metroid Prime sound/music and the like? I know that's the same item fanfare and I think that's a slightly tinkered version of the Magmoor Cavern music playing right now.

Not that I'm complaining since MP sound is amazing, but still.

Nintendo delivering.

Only need a Switch. Got a 3DS and still need to catch up on WiiU games.

Was waiting on what other ports were coming to Switch as I still need to get Yoshi, Captain Toad, Bayo 2, Hyrule Warriors and Xenoblade. Still need to beat Pikmin 3, shame on me.

I think the game will probably be fine, but you shouldn't expect or want people to just eat everything up. Were you upset when people reacted to Federation Force badly?

Except that Konami didn't supervise it and here they just have to remake the game in 3D and not create it from scratch.
And that's a lot different to create from scratch a game than copypasta it in new textures-engine.
People should learn a little about development...

We'll see, I guess.

They ruined Castlevania, so I'm still shook they were even given this.

So, I wonder if they can come close or even top AM2R. To be fair, that was the work of a single guy, so it will probably look at least a lot better. Also the fights against the Metroid evolutions felt a bit repetitive, so there is certainly a lot of room for improvement.

Mercury Steam had Metroid prototypes in 2015 for 3DS and Wii U. Saw someone here post a link to a Nintendo Life article about it.

they'e quite literally showing extended footage right now and it looks nice

yall tripping lmao

It's disappointing to see this on the 3DS, but I can't deny that it looks like they've done a good job with this. Happy for those who have a 3DS. (For those saying it looks bad, I agree that the poly count is bad given the hardware, but are you watching the Treehouse stream? Gameplay and structure wise, it really does look quite good.)

Damn. To think I'd here two Metroid announcements in one day... (Even if Prime is somewhere off in the future) Quite a happy day for someone who loves Metroid dearly.

Well, the AM2R "reveal" was over ten years ago.

This was obviously in development well before AM2R released + was DMCA'd.

One thing that strikes me is that one of the biggest issues I recall from the original game was that it was, well, *all* similar-looking caves; if nothing else, navigation should be a bit easier because places look more visually distinct.

AM2R does look better and I'm fed up of nintendos shitty 3d models instead of quality 2d art or sprites.

I am hyped as shit for prime 4 but when a fan remake looks like it did a better job than a product Nintendo wants me to pay for, I'm just going to play AM2R instead.
