As a metroid newbie who enjoys metroidvania quite a lot, where can I start with this series? I got a 3DS and getting a switch when MHXX is out.

Sakamoto just said that this partnership with Mercurysteam has opened up new potential for the 2D series, hopefully that means Other M will be consigned to the dustbin of history.

Same thing I was thinking. Really hope it means we'll see more 2d Metroid exploration in the near future.

With the exception of the Prime series, and maybe even then, I'd say the stories are thin enough that it doesn't matter a whole lot where you start. It's mostly about aesthetic, environments, and whatever strange alien creatures and tech you're going to encounter.

I strongly dislike the melee counter and if me not buying a game I don't want means I don't get future games of the same type that I also wouldn't want, I wouldn't care by default.

If a fan can make a 2d metroid that appealed to me more than what Nintendo does, that's not my problem.

Don't be an idiot.

You were the one chalking up a game that stole assets. I am fine if you don't find this game interesting, because not every game is for everyone. But holding a work of IP theft up on a pillar is not a great idea.

ok it looks good, but nothing like Metroid 2 in any way, which is pretty sacred to me. But oh well, I'll just pretend Samus took another Metroid hunting trip to a completely different planet afterwards
We've already got a great Metroid 2 fan remake, so I'm totally fine with a great Metroid 2 complete reimagining

Shame this didn't come out two years ago, this thread woulda been pure joy, less Switch sadness. Good game then is still good game now! Really lookin forward to playing this with the 3D maxed out, woulda been a real shame to have gone through the whole 3DS lifespan and never gotten a 2D Metroid usin stereo 3D, gonna look great. Prefer it on 3DS cause of that really.

I agree. Had this released a couple of years ago I think reception would have been warmer. I am personally hyped that I'm going to get to see Samus in stereo 3D.

MoF was garbage and had tons of problems but the visuals were not one of them. It looked great and made great use of the 3D so on that level I can see why they picked. If Nintendo helps them fix the level design, combat, and performance this could totally work.

You're asking basically a totally different game...

Man... two Metroid games, not excited for any of them... holy shit... =/

port this shit to switch please

Dont get upset when Nintendo doesnt announce another Metroid game after Prime 4 for another 10 years or so.

What if the reviews say this game is amazing please buy it. Will you still not buy? Give the game a chance is all I ask.

Super Metroid. It's on the 3DS virtual console and is considered one of the best games of all time.

UNBELIEVABLE!!

For YEARS, a lot of you would bitch about the lack of Metroid at these events. Now we get not one but TWO Metroid announcements.

All I read is
"It's ugly"
"Looks easy"
"AM2R looks better"
"Eww, it's on 3DS"

Just....wow....

The 3DS complaint is a bit relevant. A lot of us have moved on to Switch. The rest is crap

the artstyle reminds me of A Link Between Worlds (this game looks somewhat better) which looked like it did in order to be 60 fps and 3D

This. Castlavania Mirror of Fate is one of my most infuriatingly disappointing games.

Hopefully this being a remake of a pre-existing game means they can't fuck it up.
The gameplay shown so far looks very good. And stuff like infinite bomb jumping shows a respect for core elements of the series.

Damn, that was a good trailer. Nintendo finally realized that people are hungry for Metroid games with all the indies out there and finally jumped on it. It's about time. I'm so glad 2D and 3D Metroid can coexist. This is awesome news.

Start with Zero Mission if you can. Or play Metroid Prime trilogy. I wouldent try and play the original game it hasnt aged well along with the original Metroid 2.
