Sonic Team can make good games occasionally. Maybe MercurySteam can, too.

I just think back to Castlevania and see that as a daunting fuckin' task. They got so much wrong of the basic basics that were shared between that and Metroid.

If it's anything like what I remember trailers from the eshop looking like it will not be a good indicator of the game's visuals. It will likely just be a low-res video so I don't think you can judge the game framerate from it, but it should give an idea of what the depth effect will feel like.

The gameplay shown so far looks very good. And stuff like infinite bomb jumping shows a respect for core elements of the series.

Oh I'm still on the optimistic side. Just glad that its a remake to straight away mitigate some of my Mercury Stream wariness.

One of my favorite things about the gameplay: It looks different from Super Metroid. It's trying new things. It's not wearing a game from 1994 like a ball and chain.

I love Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission, but I feel like 2D Metroid has been pretty stagnant since Super Metroid perfected the formula. Even if these new ideas don't turn out great, it's nice seeing some ambition again.

I really want the Collector's Edition for this and the Samus amiibo if I can get them. There's always such a frenzy around this kind of thing that I don't have a ton of hope, but I'm really stoked they are doing it just the same.

Metroid deserves some love and it's great to see it getting just that.
