MGS5 - "Snake won't really speak much at all. More of a silent protagonist."

I can still imagine Snake talking quite a lot when compared to protagonists from other games but less in Metal Gear terms.

Naked Snake in MGS3 had the most humorous codex conversations in MGS3, him talking game him the best personality of the MGS protagonists. What a disappointment.

What if this is not true because Kojima is playing us and the game will surprise everyone by having Snake talk a lot and also be voiced by Hayter ?

I really wish I could just get another MGS with all the MGS stuff I liked. Yet, the series continues to add crap and crap that I don't want while taking away things I loved. Mother base and tedious leveling up shit in! Interesting boss battles against fun and memorable bosses out! Plenty of fun codex conversations with enduring humor out! Stoic and depressing main characters in!

I'm expecting MGS5 to not be as bad as the previous three games, but I don't think it will be a return to the greatness of 1-3. It's the first MGS I really have no interest in the story or anything except the gameplay. I'm just so tired of everything and I watch with complete disinterest as the series moves in directions I don't care for.

Rising is keeping the flame alive though.

I think that there probably is a way to pull off a mostly silent protagonist in a game like this. Although, that being said, Kojima's solution to the problem seems to come off as downright shoddy. If the desert conversation between Ocelot and Big Boss is indicative of most the dialogue in the game (outside of big dramatic moments) then it seems like characters are just gonna vomit exposition and objectives at you while you sit there glancing back and forth.

I think that this would be mostly alright in a first person view, however, in a third person game where you can see your character all the time, it just seems jarring as fuck to keep him quiet. I think it might be because when the camera keeps going back and forth between two characters there's the expectation that both of them are gonna talk, as opposed to a first person view where you can sorta get away with having a character talk at you endlessly. Probably the reason why I find that first person silent protagonists tend to be a bit more tolerable.

He is lying!

But if not, then its dissapointing, they seem to be making this MGS for western audiences, its a bit too much.

If Snake isn't giving me ten minute monologues on the nature of war and humanity then what's the point of this series?

I'll have to see how it works, as "silent protagonist" is a broad term, and it's not impossible to show emotion and character depth with a silent character, so I'll have to see how it works.

Does this harpoon those hour long theory videos that keep saying Kiefer is not voicing Big Boss but a different character that only looks like BB? I kind of hope not, those video are the perfect blend of entertaining and frustrating.

Sometimes I feel the same way. I hope this game can still retain what made the series great.

Does anyone else think this is a trick? Snake wont speak much because we will be playing as big boss (or frank jaeger imitating Boss), not snake.

so it's 99% Master Miller then :/ i knew Ground Zeroes were going to show this game's true colours towards voice acting, even though people tried to believe that was only for GZ :P

Shame :( i liked codec conversations, now it's just pointing things with the binoculars and Miller telling you what it is.

I dont mind at all. I don't hate Kiefer, to be fair I like him a lot more than Hayter. Hayter was good in the first 2 games, he took his role in 3 and PW way too serious with the grumpy voice that annoyed the shit out of me.

This is the worst news I have ever heard in my life.

A bit of Sutherland is better than a lot of Hayter.
And after MGS4 less talking and more playing is exactly what I want from this franchise

- Hey Kiefer, I got a great job for. You will incarnate one of the most beloved videogames characters in gaming in a millionare production
- Great, it will be a new milestone in my carrer
- Nice, well you won't talk too much
- Easy money anyways.

But who will repeat the same thing someone just said in the form of a question?

The form of....a question?

Yeah, the joke has been done ITT, but I wanted my chance too.

I don't get why people think this is a money issue because of Kiefer- they would've worked that out beforehand I would think.

It's probably because he's all broody in this one. Or Kojima is hiding something. Or maybe he just didn't want to write dialogue because he was watching Escape From New York again.

Or Big Boss imitating Gray Fox?

Still not sure why he's posing like this. Since when did Big Boss ever pose like Gray Fox? What's behind that eye patch..
a sharangin
