Blocked everywhere because that'll be a horizontal merger in a very concentrated market.

They'll just pass along a few bags of money and close over any blocks.

Alot of people gave a shit for this deal to go through, the way the industry is heading they will desire the 360 to xbone days back when other big companies make their play. This won't end well for gamers.
I guess. Those people either lack the scope for any business forsight or only care about tribalism not video games or they just want to save money in the short term by trying out alot of games for 1 hour of entertainment before dropping them because like i said it means nothing to them. Either way I agree gamers lose out big in the long term.

Geo political examples proves this to be the case for decades tho. It is what it is, its not fair but life isn't fair tho.
So why the fuck they didn't go directly to FTC, when it is like that. What the fuck. EU can cuck Apple, but this is beyond?

Seems like CMA wants to settle if Microsoft offers new remedies.
The FTC PI was probably an orchestrated last ditch effort to stop the deal. That's why it was so sudden.
I guess Microsoft will give the CMA something more than what they gave to EU to let the CMA save face and it will be over.
It was so stupid of the CMA to start with. A simple list of demands would have made everyone's life so much easier.

Now we're all the way back to the CMA saying "this is what we need to see in writing"

It just seems bitter and irresponsible to have not done it in the beginning.

So does this mean, MS closes before negotiations with CMA is completed or does this mean that Activision will be more inclined to extend the agreement to complete the negotiations before MS closes.

Absolutely it does. The world has set a precedence here that a trillion $ company can buy the biggest independent multiplatform gaming publisher for $69 billion.

It's going to be a free-for-all now. And that's what I was most afraid of: less variety of games, less innovation in the industry, just corps getting richer and richer.

This industry will be effectively dead in 10 years at this rate. At least creatively, and these companies will be surprised at stagnating or depleting revenue even post-acquisition.

We're already somewhat seeing that with Microsoft's gaming revenue drop post-Zenimax.

sowrry my friends it seems the CMA just took an arrow to the knee....now is time to cook with GaaS and move to the next stage; which i call:

"The Alan Parsons Project"

With CMA's news no way it closes by the current deadline and in the current form.

If there's a company Sony wanted and was for sale they would have or would buy them so this is just silly
Not really. I honestly don't think we've seen Sony actually spend big money.... because they haven't needed to. I also believe they have big cash reserves waiting in case they need it.

So that's most people grasping about subscriptions.

By the looks of it, activision games will come to game pass (console and pc), Nintendo might finally get some COD (last game they got was black ops 2), MS will push activision games on more cloud services so anyone with a phone can play instead putting the behind a console or pc, and right now nothing has changed for PS.

So what's the concern?
Other companies won't be as "kind"

Yeah, creatively the gaming industry was already suffering a bit. Rising costs of AAA games was another issue and how publishers kept playing it safe (formulaiscgames and all).

This consolidation will only make things even more monotonous in the industry and take out the flavor and flair from it.

Basically the FTC jumping the gun and losing somehow made the CMA cave in when the FTC didn't even primarily focus on the things that were most damning to MS (cloud SLC)?

Yeah, that definitely looks weak of them. Could also be the Tories pressuring them BTS and this FTC situation being the catalyst for them to do a 180 publicly.
UK organization all bark no bite. I don't know anything about them but in this debacle they sure seemed tough and confident. So hey, whomever they are sure seem like they won't back down to anymore.

They literally announced smoothing it out less than an hour after the FTC decision.

They were just waiting for them to make the first move the whole time. If FTC win they'd buddy up and join. If they lost, they bail. That was the plan the whole time.

They did though.

No. It's a bad day for every gamer. This will only make more games exclusive. It's totally fair game now for Sony to spend way more money to buy big companies. What happens if they buy Take-Two and make GTA exclusive to just PlayStation? The list goes on.

Well...GTA is probably the only other franchise as big as COD. even if they do buy it it will have to stay everywhere. sony would probably have to go through all this BS with the courts too. them lawyers must be expensive.

have they got 24Bn to buy T2? what happens if both companies bid for it? who wins then? the company that pays more, no? either way I doubt t2 is even interested in being acquired at the moment.

Very true.

As far as I'm concerned, this has basically started a total bidding war for the other gaming studios between Sony and Mircosoft now.

No, he's right. This is going to set off a domino effect. The independent 3P market as we know it today will probably cease to exist within 10 years. It doesn't matter if there are still thousands of 3P devs and pubs; when they collectively are worth only 1/26th of the total market revenue value, and can't even produce AAA or even bigger AA games, then what industry are we really left with?

This is only going to lead to less games, less software variety and innovation, and ironically, less actual competition.
It will be interesting to see if people echo this sentiment on Sonys next acquisition
