Maybe I understand your question but this is in OP "Black Ops 6 set records for number of players on launch day and amount of new Game Pass subscriber in a single day Microsoft CEO says sales on PlayStation and Steam were up 60% compared to MWIII"

So number of players only?

I can almost taste the shareholder value

It’s the best Call of Duty since Cold War, and that was four years ago.

Deserves all the success it’s getting.

Nuketown comes out in two days and the third zombie map comes out in 3 weeks along with the guided mode for all the folks who couldn’t get good.

And 60% increase on Playstation and Steam.

I don't particularly care about Microsoft (although I do like them as a brand) but I don't think that chart means what you think it means.

You can check their stock behaviour here and see that they are at their highest historic value:

Don't think it has to do with CoD but whomever is holding stock right now and thinks Microsoft is not performing well, should sell right now and make bank.

Combining the two like that while disregarding sales on Battle.net makes it difficult to quantify

They are using different metrics indeed so I guess player count and gamepass subs would have to do.

Sorry I misunderstood your post, I thought you were asking sincerely.

60% more sales on PS5 and Steam vs last year edition, still `Steam top seller. At the same time record of new subs on GamePass, this will show MS that there is little risk with this approach. This could mean all big releases day 1 on all platforms and Gamepass, if they can keep it to 2-3 big games per quarter (possible with so many studios) - must plays - people will start to see what value gamepass offers.

So basically Sony and Steam won big here over Xbox because isn’t this game like $69 on PS5 and Steam while it’s zero for existing game pass members lol.

People could sign up to game pass for like $5-$15 beat the game or play MP for a month and cancel.

Game pass really screwed them up IMO. They should have gated the content early and not have the day one thing so Xbox gamers would have continued to buy games full price in their ecosystem.

They get a 70% cut from every one of those PS and Steam copies sold and the largest single day increase in GP subscribers.

I don't think they'd be seeing this as a loss at MS right now.

Sure but they said the same thing when Starfield released and we know that didn't do much. One of the biggest issues GP has is people signing up and then dropping it. Even the Taketwo CEO acknowledged that they would get a bump with a huge release like this and then it will drop.

Yeah, reminded me about Starfield reporting a lot.

I'm sure Blops 6 sales are fire because this time CoD is truly great, but I doubt that it will move a needlie for gamepass after the inital 14 days/1 month subs spike will expire.

Starfield was also a single player only game, so much more likely to be beaten in a month by most people then move on unlike COD which most people continue playing for multiplayer,

Time will tell on whether it has a longer-term GP gain I guess.

So Steam and PlayStation pay for the MS players?

That's fine for now but if more people switch to MS then eventually it would collapse like a pyramid scheme.
I do believe that's the plan here. Effectively, purchases on PlayStation and Steam are subsiding Game Pass for Xbox owners. However, if every PlayStation and Steam player became a Game Pass subscriber, the amount of money Microsoft could generate each month would be astronomical. That won't happen, obviously, so I would expect Microsoft's practical plan is for the value difference between their platforms to create a conversion engine that drives PlayStation and Steam players to subscribe to Game Pass. Once in the ecosystem, the extensive back catalogue and AAA hits keeps them paying. Come for COD, stay for Xbox. Is it a solid plan? I have no idea - but it's undeniably bold.

Well deserved. Best COD I've played in years. Treyarch delivered.

Thanks to PlayStation, Steam, and PC.

For the record number of GamePass signups in a day?

Single player game vs live service game that’s typically played for months…until the next one releases.

Not exactly an apt comparison

Your right it's different and maybe people will stick around who knows. It's just we've seen this same announcement before and it didn't really mean anything. Maybe this time it will lead to some actual permanent numbers/subs.

This is where people are off. The big money comes from the Blackcell’s and cosmetics sales. Those micro transactions are a license to print money. Gamepass does not include any of that and I suspect the attach rate of the blackcell passes is very high based on what I see in the last two COD’s.

I dunno, for online game it's especially cheaper to pay $70 upfront than to shill $20 a month regardless of a platform. Another hot take is that SP games are more suited for GP model in general, not premium MP titles.

I'm quite sure that the mentioned sub spike is coming from the people who paid $20 tops to be done with campaign (always-online this time too) and forget about CoD for a year.

This really worked in your head before you typed it up?

The party taking 70% of the revenue on PlayStation, and 80% on Steam is the losing party?

Ah yes, everyone knows the typical longevity for a Call of Duty game is one month 🤡

Gamepass subscribers pay money for the subscription.
