i absolutely love my surface pro 2 but i'm frothing at the mouth for an updated one, i'd love to have a bigger screen for doing my digital fartwork (tilt support would be great too, i have faith they can do better with n-trig than this current wacom digitizer in my sp2)

make me happy microsoft<333

As much as I dislike linking to wmpu:
http://wmpoweruser.com/microsoft-now-sold-100-million-windows-phones/

Maybe they're some bullshit numbers, but I don't think so. Sure you can say it's not apple or google numbers, but 8 million in a quarter is nothin to sneeze at. There are tangential benefits besides the initial sale as well, but I won't delve into it because you clearly just want to shit on it.

8 million a quarter is literally something to sneeze at in a market which is approaching 2 billion iOS + Android devices sold by 2016 or 2017. Apple sold 15 million iPhone 6S and 6S+ in one weekend. A diminished Samsung still managed to sell 10 million of the disappointing Galaxy S6 in a month. 10 million is a disappointment for Samsung, and we're only talking about Samsung's flagship here. Apple regularly sells 100 milllion iPhone a year, as opposed to lifetime sales of Windows Phone assuming that any article from WMPU is even remotely credible. Samsung isn't far behind when you account for all their many models of Androids, with the disappointing Galaxy S6 probably going to sell 45 million or so this year according to the latest diminished estimates. So what does that make 8 million a quarter for Microsoft? That's right, something to sneeze at.

I'm sorry that I'm willing to tell it like it is, but I like to think my viewpoint is probably slightly more objective than yours. I want MS to succeed in markets they have a chance of succeeding in, if for no other reason than because I like it when their stock price increases. It's no coincidence that MS's stock shot up after Ballmer announced his retirement but has since settled back into stagnation when Nadella has signaled that he isn't actually going to turn the ship around as much as shareholders would have liked.

wut

Sounds too good to be true.
I would sell my Android phone for a Windows phone. What if Microsoft finally announces a proper flagship made out of metal, 2gb of ram, removable battery, 4k screen, crazy camera, fingerprint scanner, MicroSD, and Android Apps?

Nah, I'm dreaming.

Excited for the event, but the one thing that really bugged me about the SP3 was the general wonkiness with the type cover. There would be some inexplicable periods where the keyboard failed to connect, even after pulling it off and slapping it back on. This happened with several covers and even a replacement SP3 as I thought it may be a hardware issue.

Nah, I'm dreaming.

I'd still pass as long as I'm getting sloppy seconds for apps. The Spotify app on my Lumia 635 doesn't even have Connect.

It's the one chance Microsoft has to impress me before the IPad Pro drops.

Those are two drastically different products. One's actually a viable computer. The other is a giant iPad.

Please realize that the iPhone numbers that you're posting are from the opening weekend, and what that means.

Sony, sold 7.3 million phones last quarter. And it's rare for Sony to sell more than 10 million phones in a given quarter.

Motorola, sold 10+ million in a quarter, last year, that was doing extremely well for them.

The numbers you're posting are from the top two brands in terms of popularity and sales. Yet you find it strange that the WP numbers don't come close to that?

The problem is that all those individual manufacturers, without having a huge marketshare on their own, are selling Android phones, ie. contributing to one giant ecosystem. WP is a completely separate system with very small marketshare, even if Microsoft's sales are matching those of other individual manufacturers.

Clearly Microsoft is betting everything on Continuum and the fact that combined desktop, tablet and phone numbers will sway more developers towards developing apps for their store. Simplified porting from Android and iOS should also help, but will it enough? Most likely not, but they have to try.

hmmm google maps, mail, voice support would actually makes me jump ship to a MS phone. Just got a G4 to replace my Note 3 (RIP) but I'm not happy with the software on this phone.

I want to see what the Microsoft Band 2 is all about and I'm hoping to see a new Surface (not Pro) so that I can get a used S3 for cheap off eBay.

Google apps for Windows 10 would be great news though they've kind of already shipped all their apps in via Chrome.

Man I am excited fuck,

so where does everyone stand on Google apps? Credible rumor?

Which other 3rd party will they bring on stage. I mean they really do need 3rd party support.

This is my personal list: Sonos, Strava, Tidal and Wahoo.

100 million devices? LMAO are you including historical sales of phones with Windows going back to Windows Mobile or something? Where are you getting this 100 million devices number?

It's nothing because it has never turned MS a profit, it has no mindshare or marketshare and no hope for either, and quite frankly nobody wants it. It's a waste of money and there's a reason why MS shareholders were so angry during the Ballmer era when he would piss away money on anything and everything with little to no result.

100 million is the current number of win10 devices, I think he's talking about the current marketshare. (Which is desktop only at the moment, but it's the main point of a universal platform, you can develop to the most successful one and have others supported almost at no extra cost)

Edit, I should have read the rest of the thread XD

Just wanted to note that this is viewed by most as being pretty woeful. When I hear Sony in the news, it's nearly always about them having to defend their stance of not selling that division for losing them money.

It's not a good example at any rate. Sorry about that. Just my two cents.

Not looking at the Lumia's anymore, but I'm definitely still interested in the SP4. Really looking forward to seeing what they bring out, now that I'm taking drawing more seriously.

Well yes, I was just highlighting the precedent had been set by a 'bigger' company.

Nah, I know...I'm just fooling around. It comes from my frustration from being a pretty exclusive Apple user for years (but at heart a Microsoft fan), and seeing Apple products continue to get worse, and at a faster rate, too. This event really may turn the tide of my household back to Windows-based stuff if it's as good as it's rumored to be.

My hopes for today:

Microsoft makes the Lumia line seem like more than an afterthought.
Fast turn around times from announcements.
Surprises.

Microsofts sticker game is strong yall

They need app announcements. The OS and hardware will be fine but Microsoft need headline apps from pretty much all major players, not a few, not barely functional. Good and proper apps so people get on board without missing anything and the train never stops.

I just can't see the purpose in a giant more powerful Ipad. Surface is a viable option to replace a laptop for many. These aren't even in the same category in my eyes.

Others are intersted in the surface pro primarily as a tablet for design/drawing etc, and have another primary computer in the house. An iPad pro can be a reasonable option for those people and I fully expect Adobe etc to provide more fully feature apps to take advantage of the pencil(tm). With the sheer momentum generally behind iOS there is absolutely the potential for iPad pro to have more stylus optimised apps than surface pro pretty damn quickly.

Yeah but the price is prohibitive and professionals won't be able to run programs they are already familiar with. They should have made a MacBook in tablet form with stylus support. That would have really hurt the surface.
There is next to no reason for an average iPad user to upgrade to the giant iPad and they didn't go all out for the professionals that would love what I have just described. Its a half response to surface which will likely sell like crazy cause its a new Apple thing.
