Microsoft should stop requiring Gold subs for FTP games ASAP + Crossplay Disaster!

I'm not for or against the practice of Gold subs per se, I'm always subbed as a family membership and share the sub/gamepass ultimate across all family members, games and overall think it's solid value. On to my point, aren't there a few features that would get cut that the Xbox Live platform is based on? e.g.
  • parental controls (as a parent knowing what, how long, with who and getting weekly reports emailed for all family members and their xbox activity is a godsend)
  • anti-cheating
  • clubs/friends
  • party chat
  • screens/clips sharing
  • achievements/gamerscore
  • LFG
  • MMR/TrueSkill multiplayer matching
  • privacy settings
  • leaderboards
  • SPOP sign-in/security (pretty rare for MS account to get hacked, really stable system)
Isn't it worth it just to have one gamertag ready to go on all games you install? I'd hate to register account after account with each game/publisher and a lose the ability to manage all my family members in one place across all games.

Probably because Sony gives a free local option for saves (usb) and the paid plus option. The local option being the best way, in my opinion.

You do realize you can save your data on any external flash. Much more reliable than cloud saving.

If a small fee would make cheaters and connection issues on PC go away i would happily pay for it. Ive been going back and forth between PC and Xbox versions of Destiny 2 and multiplayer (trials) on PC is borderline unplayable in the state it is now. Not to mention the LFG is in another league on Xbox LIVE which is a big plus when it comes to all MP games.

Doesnt matter if you blame the developers, as of now this game and others are not the "the exact same game" so thats flat out wrong. I am for free stuff as long as the quality dont suffer.
 
I still remember PS3 days when there were flame wars how console players are as good if not better than people on k+m. Then UT3 came that allowed that and discussion ended soooo fast..

People who want full control over when and what saves to back up. Also, you can have a corrupt save downloaded to the cloud with no other fix, but restarting your game from the beginning.

Just for giggles: Who the hell wants all ther hundreds of hours saves to be tied to the mercy of the cloud?

That disables cross-play with PS4, but you will still play with people on PC. For that the options (if they exist) have to be toggled in games.

Why the fuck should games that don't pay a dime for sustaining the infrastructure be exempt from paying for exactly that, while others that are paid for doing that are not? If anything Xbox Live Gold should be free for the paid games, not the other way around. F2P games generate tons of online traffic and server load.

You also seem to not understand that F2P is the business model of the publisher, not Microsofts. It does not make a difference to them if a publisher decides to do this. Why should the platform holder cater to publishers that rather give away their games for free?

Depends on what games you play. For example Microsofts titles all use Xbox Live on PC. So the only way to deactivate cross-play is if they offer it. For Horizon 4 you can just disable it, for Sea of Thieves you can request to only play with other controller players (which of course is pointless, because you are still playing at 30 fps vs. 144 fps PC players).

The answer was in your response. F2P games generate a ton of users and dlc that paid games usually don't. It's a literal advertisement for your ecosystem.

It would be interesting to see what kind of revenue a game like warzone with literally millions of players and players buying stuff from the store brings to a platform but I'm guessing ms and sony get Thier cut so in a way they do pay for the infrastructure they use .... Paying to play f2p games is a shitty practice regardless who it is and should be rightly called out .

Imagine trying to spin the fact that Xbox doesn't allow it's customers to play F2P games without having to ditch $60 into their pockets first.

An anti-consumer policy is an anti-consumer policy. Sony has some and so does Microsoft, but this takes the cake.

Why not both? On Xbox it saves your savegames to the cloud, no matter if you're paying for Gold or not, and you can also save them locally if you wish.

Meanwhile, you need PS Plus for cloud saves. Whether its from PS Now streaming or PS4 games.

This is worse...

Microsoft offers unlimited cloud saves on Windows 10/Xbox consoles without gold, while it's limited to 10GB on PS4 with PS Plus lol

I prefer Microsoft cloud saves Technique since it'd automatically detects saves when you start up a game. No need to worry about deleting your saves or currupt hard drives.

Both console features and payment systems suck dicks. Did anyone know there is no system level game invite on PS4. You have to do it within the game - and of course each is different. Wtf, I'm sure it was there at launch, why Sony, why? Why make life difficult and not focus on quality of life features that were there 2 decades ago??

Man, the 360 was a work of art. No idea how the Xbone does it these days, but it has to be better than ps4.

That isn't how it works with Sea of Thieves. You can choose to go into a Xbox with Controller server or an open server, which is both PC and Xbox. If you play with a KB&M on a Xbox, then you have to go in an open server.

Game Pass is $10 a month, not 1. Also guess who has the best online infrastructure. Not the ones that offer F2P games for free. Again, the "free" moniker comes from the publisher. If they want to be exempt, why don't they pay Microsoft for doing so?
 
As other posters have stated, there is no basis to argue the sony system is better in any way, as xbox saves both locally and to usb for free.

Anyone who thinks that reaching for a lost flash drive 10 years after first playing kameo is in serious denial. 10 years later cloud saves have never failed me.
For the super paranoid, back up to flash too.

I'd say start another thread for this but the way this forum has been lately there's a 50/50 chance it would be deleted or moderated in some form, who knows why......

You can back up saves to USB on PS4, not on Xbox.

Paying for a service makes sense. Paying for someone to flick a switch to access the Internet (which has already been paid for) is some sleazy shit.

And if you get a corrupted save on Xbox the chances (99%) is that it will be uploaded to the cloud anyway. So if you try to use the cloud backup - still corrupted. It's a real problem

Isn't the PC problem because they can mod the game to cheat - nothing to do with the Gold service ?

That said it can be a big positive for the user to actually charge for a service just to keep some timewasters out..
