bahahaha, that cracked me up.
All this from a few tweets. Amazing.
I had to sleep all day and the thread jumped up 50 pages. Can anyone give a recap of what's gone down?
I just can't tell which replies are real anymore.
I don't think I can even have a real discussion with this...no, a little thing called journalistic integrity. they aren't going to stake their reputation on some dumb rumor started up on a no-name video game web forum on the internet.

Saying 'we do not believe in persistent online connections to function' or something along those lines wouldn't be acknowledging the console.Commenting on the reactions to a rumor is acknowledging the console and it's potential feature set before they even have a chance to raise the curtain, why would they do that, to quell some negative speculation for a few weeks? It's unfortunate that they had this dude be a dick on Twitter, but these shitty tweets aren't going to matter in the long run.
Especially when their name is Adam :lol
His name's not even Billy! I don't understand it at all.
Because if the rumors are false, then they will be proven false at the reveal and they will have MONTHS before the release to control the narrative. If they deny now, then they automatically lose control of the narrative and start discussing the 720 on our terms rather than on their terms.

The people are starving for Durango news.

1) To imply that Polygon has more journalistic integrity than Time, NBC, or Forbes takes a special kind of person.
2) This is not "a rumor started up on a no-name video game web forum on the internet."

what are the chances the always-on thing will turn out to be false?
So they are willing to have a perception throughout the media world(like or love huffo a lot of people read that place, along with all the other websites) that their console will need to always be online. Your belief that if they deny always online(a hot button issue regardless of a console or not) would create a narrative on "our terms" seems quite baseless. Denying something like this would easily be the end of it, there is no automatically losing control because they respond to always online drm, I'm not even sure why you think it would be that extreme of a event for them to deny it.
Has there ever been any bad reaction to nothing being official ever?
Therefore, although we go to great lengths to ensure that this will not happen, there are cases where, even if a person receives information under a Non-Disclosure Agreement, the information is leaked because there is great temptation. Even for the Wii U, some people may be aware, if they had been checking the Internet, that information with true and false rumors mixed together was spread on the Internet before the announcement.

Who is this evillore fella?
Because one question leads to another, which leads to another. Remember, the console hasn't even been announced yet. Officially, it "doesn't exist." They don't want a slow trickle of information before the reveal, presumably they already have a release + marketing plan in place. Why stop that train because of a post on Twitter? Especially when, if it's not true, it'll be proven as such at the conference?
They should be happy that someone forced their hand. Any longer and they would have killed the Wii brand completely before showing the Wii U.I don't remember for certain, but Iwata seems to hint that the leaks (regardless if true or false) forced them to reveal the Wii U earlier than expected:
Saying 'we do not believe in persistent online connections to function' or something along those lines wouldn't be acknowledging the console.
This thread alone is nearing 700,000 views... As others have said, they just have to agree that an online requirement is not something they would consider for future consoles.

Saying they do not believe in the policies that these articles are making them look like the believe in would not be a trickle of any information about the console while still calming the fears everyone has right now.Because one question leads to another, which leads to another. So then it'd be a great PR boost when they announce at the conference "hey guys, it's not always online!" The easiest way to impress is when the expectations are low.
Well I apologies for not knowingThe owner of this site. The one true mod.

I guess that's one way to spin it.
