Microsoft Studios (& Partners) Current and Future Landscape

I really can't see them not announcing Halo 6. I mean didn't they announce Halo 5 a full year before its release? I guess they can wait for E3 next year but that's usually not how it goes.

Mainline Halo games I believe have always been announced the year prior to release.

Yep. So not announcing it this year would be rather odd. Unless it's not planned for next year, but somehow I doubt we won't see Halo 6 next year. Have they even confirmed anything yet about Halo 6?

What I said earlier:
"Phil seems to be serious about the whole not showing games until they're about to release, in which case for better or worse, prepare for an extremely boring E3. My guess is they will only show games planning to release before E3 2018."

No Halo 6 at E3 is very, very interesting...

Though a little bit of me thinks it might just be PR speak to tiptoe around speculation. Something like, "It was just a trailer, we weren't there with anything on the floor!"

Still, if there really is no Halo 6 at E3, we're either in for the most dull Microsoft showing at E3 ever or one of the most compelling showings ever. No idea which.

As nice as it is to not have to wait long for awesome looking games, that seems very ill-advised when there are lots of concerns about your line-up and your competition is consistently dropping huge announcements that get the entire industry talking. I've always felt that E3 is for bringing the hype and getting people excited to own your platform. If they want to have a show focusing on the short-term, I'd recommend looking into holding their own version of PSX.

I mean, Halo 5 was known at E3 2014, a year and a half before its release. There was even a trailer for the multiplayer beta.

I would understand that for games where there is no certainty they will make it on time or release at all. But Halo 6 is a given that it will release and very likely on time too.

Take Moon Studios for example, there's a good chance we'll see their next game but i can definitely see that one hitting spring 2018. I can understand it though, they don't want a repeat of Scalebound, Phantom Dust and Fable Legends but at the same time they know people want to know the future, what's in the pipeline.

Besides, didn't he actually say he didn't want to show games too early? Or did he really say only when they are about to release?

^ He has also said he wants to focus on games people will be playing soon. That was like last year though

They could be leaving further away announcements for Gamescom like they did in 2014 if they do a conference this year, but I doubt they will

2013 - Titanfall
2014 - Nothing
2015 - Nothing
2016 - Scorpio (although it was just kinda at the end, not a GOTCHA moment :P)

So ya, you're right haha

I was still editing my list! :(

In 2015 Rod Fergusson literally said "And one more thing" before introducing Gears 4 after Gears UE.

2014's "one more thing" was "here's 3 more things".

PD, Crackdown and Scalebound were effectively packed in together as a symbol of Xbox's longer-term commitment to revitalised portfolio further down the line.

So no Halo 6 means they need a big surprise ending. We already know SOT, SOD, Crackdown, Cuphead, Ashen gameplay. Scorpio showing to open the show. Ori 2 is not big enough for a surprise end. So hopefully good chances for a new exclusive to end

Now is perfect timing for Microsoft to help Team Ninja revive Ninja Gaiden and showcase it through the power of Scorpio. Ninja Gaiden/DOA were exclusive to original Xbox cause it was a graphics powerhouse. Sony helped with street fighter so do the same with ninja Gaiden Microsoft
Please, no. Team Ninja Dog has already raped Ryu's corpse enough. Hayashi isn't able to create a good Ninja Gaiden game.
The mastermind and other talented people from Team Ninja who were responsible for the success of NG and DOA left Team Ninja.. And I am not even sure they still got "it" judging their last game Devils Third for the WII U.
Devil's Third is pretty decent, though. The game has many problems but when you play it it's obvious it was created by talented people. I liked it. Can't wait to play a new game by Itagaki.
Why would you automatically assume a new Ninja Gaiden would be mediocre? The team just made Nioh and that game has been pretty well received.
And it's nothing compared to NGB and NGII. Damn, as for me, even Devil's Third is cooler than Nioh!
I was going by NG 3 results.....
Itigaki was also very creative and a perfectionist.. compare the art style between NG 1 and 2 versus Nioh..
No offense.. but NG blows it and that was over a decade ago!!
True.

No Halo 6 for E3..

so only Forza 7 and Ori 2 for new game announcements at E3?
They probably have at least one more AA or AAA game up their sleeve. I'm not super enthusiastic about their new announcements but I would have to think they are bringing more than another Forza and an Ori sequel.

I mean I'm ok with that since I really like Forza, but yeah you would hope they bring more than just two game announcements to E3 2017 after all of the first party questions that have been raised lately for Xbox.

I don't think Phil cares or should about that tbh. He's already said he doesn't want to announce things too early. It's not about winning online wars

The goal should be to wow people this year with Crackdown, state of decay, sea of thieves and Forza. Announce and show off Scorpio as the best place to play and introduce games pass.

As for Forza 7, are there any chances for Fujimi Kaido to return?

Definitely a chance. Though I'm not expecting it.

Would be a cool way to begin a trailer though, having a train of cars lighting up the mountain at night.

Fair enough, makes sense too. I just think they'll get quite a bit of backlash if those are the only two game announces of the conference for them.

I guess not long until we find out!

I'm not terribly excited about this year's E3. I feel like we'll get good gameplay sections for games we already know about, which is nice, but that's not what I watch E3 conferences for. At least I know ok be playing these games soonish

Agreed, these games have to have stellar showings.

Yeah, this is shaping up to be the worst E3 of this generation. Microsoft is obviously a joke. Nintendo will limit their announces to 2017 stuff. And Sony at some point has to stop dropping bombs and start showing the stuff they have been announcing, which will probably happen this year.

I think they'll do both.

I have a feeling the "one more thing" might be the E3 reveal of Cyberpunk running on Scorpio.

It would be awesome but i highly doubt it. Especially with those reports that they have lost quite a bit of work on the game due to a important person leaving the team or something. There was something and it wasn't exactly good news. Could be a while before we see anything.

He announced Scorpio over a year early.

But that was just a system, Spencer means games when he said that and i can definitely understand him...i mean.....

- Crackdown announced way too early. CG teaser didn't do much, so far barely any updates. That silence will finally be broken during E3 though.

- Fable Legends. Announced a few years ago with no gameplay, no idea what to expect. Year later we got some gameplay, eventually canned.

- Scalebound, no explanation needed

- Sea of Thieves (they had to because people get in the beta and they need feedback, but that reveal trailer didn't show a thing...well incredibly brief)

- Phantom Dust, reveal trailer didn't show any gameplay...eventually canned.

And i think there are more. But if they don't want to show games too soon anymore, will this mean we won't be seeing any CG trailers anymore and will only show/announce when they can show proper gameplay? We'll see. I mean....Sony can do it, they have done it for most of their first party games, didn't they? Ok TLOU 2 didn't show any gameplay but most of their other games?

Would be bold if Phil decides that this E3 is the one where they pivot away from early announcements, even ones that are only 16 months of an announcement cycle.

No one is saying it is about winning online wars.

About that brief showing... Do you guys remember a drawing of a giant octopus/kraken/sea monster at the beginning of that video? Imagine Sea of Thieves being the "one more thing" moment showing monster hunting and available NOW on Game Preview...
a man can dream ok
