Microsoft Studios (& Partners) Current and Future Landscape

You know what would be nice?

Maybe instead of focusing on bringing back one specific OG Xbox game (In this case Phantom Dust), I really feel they should get the rights to as many as possible/worthwhile, and do a collection similar to Rare Replay of OG Xbox games with updated Xbox live infrastructure.

Later on after release, they could use this as a pack-in for Scorpio along with MCC, and you would have an entire chunk of Xbox history as soon as you buy the console.

As for Perfect Dark seeing a third-person treatment, I've discussed this before in other similar threads, but I would love that. Always felt it could do wonders as a cyberpunk themed stealth action TPS with crazy weapons and gadgets, but as already mentioned, you would need a dev team that can deliver all that. No reason why Crimson Skies cant comeback as well, but like Phantom Dust, I could see them using an OG Xbox port to "gauge customer interest". A well done Crimson Skies revival could be a surprising hit imo, as there's really not much like it at all anymore.

Hah, I thought they were better, because they were orientated around specific skillsets for specific rewards. Gamey, old-school fun with obvious rewards. Really not sure how they were 'very low quality' (other than an egregious spawn point or two, pre-patch), but eh, on we go.

The last time they talked to Ken Lobb about it was way back in January 2015, and at the time he confirmed that nobody was working on a PD title at all. It's been long enough since then for a PD project to possibly have been started, but that means we won't see it anytime soon.
 
looking at Microsoft's catalog of IPs, they have a lot of IPs that they could revive that would basically be a new IP.

Microsoft should really take advantage of their stuff.

I mean, that was 2 years ago. Depending on when they started, could be coming by the end of the year.

Well, you probably need more than two years to make a really great Perfect Dark game. So yeah, probably not happening by the end of this year like you just said. Don't forget the original PD was developed for three years and turned out to be a great game. :p

End of the year would put it at just under 3 years but yeah. If it's aa like recore could be done in even less time but that guy made it sound like it was aaa story heavy with a lot of set pieces etc.

I doubt it's true anyway.
 
I'll update the OP tonight with Scalebound and such. I'll add a lot of footage and news articles to the games coming this year.

Also, kinda a :shrug: announcement but the mobile Clash of Clans clon game Age of Empires: Castle Siege is coming to android in March

State of Decay, Crackdown, Sea of Thieves, Forza and a bunch of indie funded games. I'm more than happy with that lineup for this year, 2018 is the big question.

E3 should be pretty interesting.
 
I think Perfect Dark could come back as a 2nd party developed game.
In Jason Schreier's report that documented Darkside studio's closing, it mentioned that Perfect Dark along with Phantom Dust were possible IPs that Microsoft offered Darkside to make a new game for.
It showed that Microsoft were pitching to outside developers their own catalogue to developers for possible new games, among them were Perfect Dark.

Here is the excerpt from the whole article:
“Microsoft had a list of [intellectual properties] that we might be interested in,” said one person familiar with Darkside’s pitching process, adding that the list included the sci-fi shooting series Perfect Dark, the action-card game hybrid Phantom Dust, and a handful of other Microsoft-owned properties. At one point Darkside pushed for Battletoads, according to that source, but Microsoft told them it was off the table.

It wouldn't be to far fetched if another outside developer were given the same pitch, and they ended up choosing Perfect Dark as their game (even as a possible reboot).
Also note, was Darkside pushing to do a new Battletoads game. Microsoft rejected them, though. Perhaps another developer is or was developing a new Battletoads game at the time. That's why it was off-limits.

The person on here who leaked Rare working on a pirates game also said Battletoads was in development (maybe not by Rare though)

It is interesting PD was offered to them at first, adds some credence to the reboot rumours going around lately

Yeah, he probably most likely meant what you guys said. I just thought "different IP with new experiences" could also mean old IP returning. I'm not giving up much hope though........

And no Halo 3 Anniversary means they don't have any exclusive shooter this year.. maybe because we will see a Perfect Dark reboot as their big shooter exclusive this year?

Welll I think it says a few things. They know Destiny is coming this year and it's going to sell millions and millions of copies in the Xbox regardless of sonys marketing so there's no need for a shooter.

Also it tells me imo that theyre really confident in either Crackdown or state of decay.

I bought an Xbox One for Sunset Overdrive, Scalebound and Quantum Break so yes I know that it's not the only games they produces.

Much like the Havok acquisition, while the companies are rooted in games, the acquisitions are not part of Microsoft Studios. Beam however is

No, don't. Perfect Dark ain't coming back. The FPS MS is focusing on for 2018 is Halo 6.

Forza 7, Crackdown 3, Sea of Thieves and SoD2 totally fit this bill. Forza just had one of its best entries.

Forza 7 is going to be heavily touted by MS.

Crackdown isn't on that list. He could be referring to that. Technically they'd be adding to that list if it has a good showing at E3 since we haven't seen anything of it so far really.

But MS always has an unannounced "big" game every year releasing the same year, I expect the same to be true here. 2013 had lots, 2014 had MCC, 2015 had TR and Rare Replay (if you count this), 2016 had DR4.

I know TR was revealed earlier but it was revealed as exclusive the same year so I'm counting it anyways LOL
 
I don't think there's anymore AAA or AA games that are going to be revealed and released this year.

From E3 I want an hour of the games ill be playing this year and the last half hour focussing on 2018/19. Let's see the Xbox roadmap for Scorpio.
 
I'm expecting smaller stuff like how they partnered with cuphead, Tacoma, ashen etc. I expect those kinda games to be shown off

Also tbh I could see 1 or 2 VR games based off of MS games coming to vive/rift. Phil did mention "experiences"

I'm not so sure MS wants to ride on previously announced titles for Scorp showcase. They must be holding at least 2-3 cards to their chest.

Of course it'll be heavily touted, especially if it's 4k/60fps on Scorpio. I still don't think it fits the list very well compared to the other games on it.

VR titles is gonna be one of their bigger showcases at E3 this year. After all, this are the only sorts of exclusives the Scorpio has to help sell it.

Bad: MS likely had/have a small budget if they were approaching Darksiders.
