Because AMD needs the commitment to justify their R&D
AFAIK the handheld was cancelled because AMD wanted a commitment of 10m+ units to justify making a dedicated SoC, but with Steam Deck only selling ~5 million units and ASUS ROG/Lenovo Legion only selling 1-2 million MS didn't want to take the risk.
First and current XBox were excellent hardware. 360 seemed cheap, XBone should have been a higher-end SSD gaming thoroughbred, that's where MS fukd up, which dragged to this gen.
Exactly. N64, GC, and WiiU weren't really massive hits for Nintendo sales wise, but no one got the feeling back then that they were in trouble like MS is with Xbox.
Nintendo are masters of getting themselves out of a pickle and adapting.
Microsoft aren't. As we've seen the last 10-15 years.
Not sure how widespread this is, but it looks like Walmart has started to convert its Xbox sections to other things? Is this another sign of the impending discontinuation of the Xbox console line?
There might be some type of device with Xbox branding on, but it's hard to see any upside in developing a proper next gen console unless they return to exclusives.
He's not redeeming himself. Just trying to pivot to a more general video game channel to stay relevant. Dude knows when Xbox goes, all these Xbox influencers and shills go with it.
The whole point of the "custom" design is to include the backwards compatibility IP for older Xboxes so they don't need to relicense everything as a PC game (not going to happen). So if they drop the custom part in favour of a general purpose APU, they give up on the backwards compatibility (that's my take).
I mean given what has been happening I can't say they won't have another brain fart and decide to ditch bwc for the next-gen machine - but then it really isn't a console *at all*

Let's not forget the GC was no slouch when compared to the competition at the time, and was 2nd only to Xbox in terms of power, that was the last time Nintendo were actively staying in the horsepower game....fortunately for them the Wii was a massive hit and they bounced back from the Wii U... but for it's time N64 and GC were more than capable in handling the competition from Sony...
Imagine if BOTW and Mario Kart 8 came out on Wii U, PS4, PC and finally Switch instead of Wii U and Switch. Yeah, maybe Xbox can pull off a Nintendo move
Yeah this is obvious to everyone except the big brains at GAF. The second largest market cap company just made a muti-year partnership with AMD and launched their cloud platform out of beta, following a historic acquisition. They are only just getting started.
The second largest market cap company can afford to drop something they invested in and move on when it is clear it is not going to be profitable enough to warrant further investment. They can also lay off the HW division. They love that.
