10m is a big ask in their current situation, I would also opt out tbhPretty much, it was supposed to tape-out in Q4.
Because AMD needs the commitment to justify their R&D
AFAIK the handheld was cancelled because AMD wanted a commitment of 10m+ units to justify making a dedicated SoC, but with Steam Deck only selling ~5 million units and ASUS ROG/Lenovo Legion only selling 1-2 million MS didn't want to take the risk.
Exactly. N64, GC, and WiiU weren't really massive hits for Nintendo sales wise, but no one got the feeling back then that they were in trouble like MS is with Xbox.Bro the clowns running Microsoft Gaming are nowhere near Nintendo's level.
This is almost insulting to Miyamoto and Iwata tbh.
They expect their next-gen console to sell at least 10m then?10m is a big ask in their current situation, I would also opt out tbh
ok, this is the redemption arc i wanted form these shills.
Let see if Jez has the balls to do it.
The whole point of the "custom" design is to include the backwards compatibility IP for older Xboxes so they don't need to relicense everything as a PC game (not going to happen). So if they drop the custom part in favour of a general purpose APU, they give up on the backwards compatibility (that's my take).
I mean given what has been happening I can't say they won't have another brain fart and decide to ditch bwc for the next-gen machine - but then it really isn't a console *at all*
Let's not forget the GC was no slouch when compared to the competition at the time, and was 2nd only to Xbox in terms of power, that was the last time Nintendo were actively staying in the horsepower game....fortunately for them the Wii was a massive hit and they bounced back from the Wii U... but for it's time N64 and GC were more than capable in handling the competition from Sony...Exactly. Nintendo are masters of getting themselves out of a pickle and adapting.
Microsoft aren't. As we've seen the last 10-15 years.
The second largest market cap company can afford to drop something they invested in and move on when it is clear it is not going to be profitable enough to warrant further investment. They can also lay off the HW division. They love that.Yeah this is obvious to everyone except the big brains at GAF. The second largest market cap company just made a muti-year partnership with AMD and launched their cloud platform out of beta, following a historic acquisition. They are only just getting started.

One can argue mobile or even Zune were far more importnant for MS but both were closed and shuttered without any hesitation. Microsoft can care less about expenses if it makes the corporation more focused and profit-driven mid-term.The second largest market cap company can afford to drop something they invested in and move on when it is clear it is not going to be profitable enough to warrant further investment. Funny that people really think than in a light of AI race Microsoft wouldn't dare to walk back on Xbox console contract because of some termination fees, even if they will cost them a few billions. Xbox Console at this point is net negative anyway, basically dead in retail and worldwide and they will lose more billions even making one regardless. It's easier to write off the whole HW division, cut the losses and then recoup them with SW sales and AI bubble.
I thought you were banned?Hard to doubt the industry titan
Journos working fast, already articles on your commentsPretty much, it was supposed to tape-out in Q4.

Same vibes lol.

PC in console's clothing.

Does Nintendo get CoD, Battlefield 6 or GTA VI? They are not in competition.GAF pretends Nintendo doesn't exist except when complaining about how much their hardware and games cost
Fixed it for youIf Gaf says it- its gotta be the opposite.
I think that gaming wise their issues started actually in the 360 era post launch…Not sure I believe anything Microsoft say about Xbox at this point because they could say something completely different next week or next month as we've seen happen numerous times now.
To be honest, I haven't cared about Xbox since May 2024 when I cancelled my GamePass Ultimate subscription for my PC and Xbox Series X. I have no interest in Xbox consoles or the ecosystem but I will continue to buy the odd Xbox game that Microsoft publish for PC on Steam, e.g. The Outer Worlds 2 and Forza Horizon 6 .
Sad to see the Xbox brand go this way after the exciting promise of the Xbox and 360 era. Everything went down a steep incline with the extremely disappointing Xbox One and, in my opinion, Xbox has never recovered from that. Now every time Xbox are in the news, it is something negative that everyone hates on. It seems like they just cannot do anything right and even the much lauded GamePass is now attracting criticism for the massive price hikes and changes.
I can easily see a future where Microsoft abandon the console business for good and become a games publisher. That seems to be the direction they want to go, especially with their "everything is an Xbox" branding. If everything else is an Xbox then why would you need an Xbox?

I'll stick to mine.Fixed it for you
Well, they signed a 10 year deal for CoD but... MS lied.Does Nintendo get CoD, Battlefield 6 or GTA VI? They are not in competition.
How? They tried to have a Skyrim but Bethesda blew it with Starfield. Halo was fun, but nothing more came of it. Pretty much everything they publish is either meh or good, even great, but not amazing.Imagine if BOTW and Mario Kart 8 came out on Wii U, PS4, PC and finally Switch instead of Wii U and Switch. Yeah, maybe Xbox can pull off a Nintendo move

Yes but minus red ring lolSee what Peter Moore did with the Xbox 360 and copy that.
Why would AMD demand 10m units when the most successful handheld, the Steamdeck, hasn't even hit 5m and other handhelds sell 1-2m?AFAIK the handheld was cancelled because AMD wanted a commitment of 10m+ units to justify making a dedicated SoC, but with Steam Deck only selling ~5 million units and ASUS ROG/Lenovo Legion only selling 1-2 million MS didn't want to take the risk.
Because that's the threshold where it makes sense to make a custom SoC for a product. AMD isn't spending $300 million or w/e the cost is to develop a 3nm SoC for something that might only sell 2 million units. Why would AMD demand 10m units when the most successful handheld, the Steamdeck, hasn't even hit 5m and other handhelds sell 1-2m?
Hell, id risk the red ring if it means they pull off a 360. I was never interested in the Xbox, but the 360 was so good I had to buy it. Kicking Sonys ass back into shape was the added benefit.Yes but minus red ring lol
