Microsoft wins U.S. Army contract for augmented reality headsets, worth up to $21.9 billion over 10 years

What could go wrong?

22 billion for 120 thousand headsets works out at over $180k each.
Never underestimate the unwillingness of a government bureaucrat to negotiate the cost of a contract. As long as the right people keep getting the right kickbacks the government doesn't give a shit about how much of your money they overspend.

The consumer gaming version of this would likely turn a decent profit at $1500.

Edit- The Hololens 2 was $3200 last year when debuted. Add in the redundancy required in tech for military service, and at 10 times that price it's still a fraction of what we're all paying for this. I wonder who got the reelection campaign donation.

Holo-Lens technology is facinating. The Demos I saw 5 years ago were pretty impressive, can only imagine how much progress and improvements have been made. As someone said earlier, this will only boost the R&D at MS to imrpove Holo-Lens even further..

I remember just a few years ago, Google glass was all the craze and like anything google it was put out to pasture. Glad that MS stuck to their guns on this technology.
