Some of the descriptions being mentioned here of battles and such are great! Thank you for taking the time to describe all that in detail. I am going to give this a good go this weekend and I am getting very hyped, even moreso then seeing gameplay by the descriptions some of you are putting forth about your battles and emergent gameplay development.

Thanks!

The more I think about it, the more I realize how brilliant the nemesis system really is. It effectively gets you to use every mechanic the game has to offer, since if you don't the captains who are invincible to your usual strategy will kill you and become even harder to defeat. There is no need for a difficulty setting since the game simply uses your weaknesses to create your own personalized enemies.

Bingo.

After spending time with the Nemesis system, I think it's almost guaranteed that the Assassin's Creed series will begin to implement something similar.

It really seems like something that would suit that franchise well.

Which makes sense since this game borrows its fair share of open world game design from AC anyway.

But yeah, I'd love to see other games experiment with something similar.

In a way, this game does Batman better than the Batman games: the way you have to prepare for a fight first searching guys with intel to know what the strong and weak points are from his boss is the equivalent of "Batman prep time".

It's a shame they recorded so much dialogue for the orcs and just something like five lines for after you die though. If the point is for the player to die alot for the game to work properly they should've recorded either way more or none at all.

I'm surprised at how the game incentives the player to use every single mechanic at their disposal. I don't have a "that one OP strategy" that works in every single situation and never mix it up. I'm always finding myself constantly assessing the situation and changing up my strategies and that has a lot to do with the randomization of the Nemesis missions and Uruk traits and weaknesses.

8 hours so far and I'm still in the first area. Having a lot of fun with SOM.

Has anyone else had issues entering the codes that came with the game and the menus not unlocking to select tests or skins? I have double checked that the patch and all the items are installed and did the usual re-install and so forth and no luck.

What the hell... I thought it WAS a sincere moment. What is this guy taking about?!

Edit: had to stop reading. I just don't get it. I'm a husband and father of three, so the whole family thing is pretty close to my heart (i found the death of his family heartbreaking), but i thought that kiss showed his playfulness and abundance of affection for his wife. That is a stealth button, not a kill button...

My nemesis is a disturbing son of a an orc. His name is Blorg the Ear-Hunter.
The motherfucker doesn't speak, at all. He just looked at me and tilted his head smiling in a most horrifying tone ever whenever we encountered.
The funny thing is I never lost against him, killed him at least 4 times but somehow the dude kept coming back.
He was like power 17 when I finally killed him for good.
Now I am sitting here sad as shit because he hasn't turned up again. I missed his smile.
May you rest in pieces, you motherfucker son of a creepy graug.

That polygon article is an absolute joke. Jeez what was he thinking when he wrote that.

There are much bigger and more common problems with games.

Bow seems pretty overpowered once you've got it leveled up a bit. You can down a captain's entire entourage before they even know you're there and put a bit of hurt on the big man too before getting stuck in. Just got a +50% damage rune for it as well which should make things even easier.

"We don't kiss our loved ones in the same way we kill our enemies, games should know that."

We don't slice our bread the same way we would knife a home intruder, games should know that.

This game is a lot of fun.

And it doesn't Tolkien's work - that is unless you think PJ's take is soil already. Even the whole wrait/possession/curse bit fits for the most part.

Some useless orc killed me because my bluetooth controller went wonky while I was fighting 20 or so orcs. Now he's a captain and hangs at the opposite end of the map.

Does the other player get somethign if you complete a nemesis mission for another player?
Or is it just a way to get some Power?

There are some Orcs that are weak against far away attacks (or whatever is that in English), but when I shoot them right in the head their HP barely does down.

Am I doing something wrong?

Omg I am loving this game, it is so much fun. I have same complaints as others in this thread with the environment and what not, but the nemesis system is so damn awesome.

This guy has been with me since I started the game yesterday, he killed me a few times then finally died his first time to an orc, (he had a helmet at first) I was pissed, Because I wanted to kill him. Anyway, I continue on, minding my business, decapitating some orcs when lo and behold he pops up, with scars on his face. He mentions how some orc gave him the scars and I'm like "come at me," we duke it out and I kill him, finally. Or so I thought. I continue my progress hunting down some warchiefs and what do I find? This motherfucker Ashgarn Bone-Licker, wearing a bag telling me how I should make sure someone is really dead after killing them, something like that.

Yeah, this game is very enjoyable, I do not think I would enjoy it as much if they did not implement the nemesis system. I cannot help imagine what else this system could be put into, I was fantasizing things like star wars. mmmmmmm.
