Mighty No. 9 |OT| The Blue Bomba

Oh man. The jokes because of this game are hilarious!

Yeah, VERY glad I didn't even give much thought to "but tradition!" in going Wii U over PS4/PC, though I thought it'd just be OK performing but not 60 FPS. Steam should more than suffice in that regard.

And probably just setting lives at 9. That dumb chainsaw you have to carefully down dash under or die instantly to convinced me it wasn't worth going through on the default number.
Neogaf name drop. We're mean, guys.
Ah hahaha.

Though I did prefer to try to stay more even handed there, though it does seem like it hit my lowest reasonable expectations (closer to a lower tier MM.)

havent been following this game but from what I understand isn't this made by the guy who created mega man? Why is it getting hated on? Is it a really bad game?

Is this from the Twitch stream? Will it be archived? I want to give it a watch later.

Yeah, the guy mentions NeoGAF (and Kotaku) twice, mentioning the second time the "so meeeaaan!" comments.

Definitely give it a watch. I never seen a postmortem done on a game just as it was launching for the first time. Some common complaints and issues were addressed, though some bigger questions were dodged. They even teased on explaining the cheezy-puffs explosion effects but got sidetracked. Given the guy's near constant use of the word "salty", I'd say it was a frustrating affair for them. Making some rather damning remarks on their own game as well as the game itself crashing on them mid-stream. It's...interesting.

Development hell, some drama regarding the community and a poorly planned Red Ash Kickstarter, and frankly the demo was kinda mediocre. So you get the game being a disappointment combined with enough goofy shit and you have a monster of a shitstorm brewing. Nevermind stuff like lame ass trailers from PR people who apparently came from the 90s.

Also he wasn't that involved in the design of earlier games.

Watching a stream and this looks pretty bad.

Man, what the hell happened.

Gladly Bloodstained, Yooka Laylee and Shantae look good.

Maybe it depends on whether you use external HDD (and what HDD you use) or not. For example, Devil's Third kept throwing Wii U to a black screen of death until I moved that 10+ Gb beast to the internal memory.

Mine's installed on an external HDD. Initial level loads take ~45 seconds, but respawns take about 10-15 sec.

Totally separate, I found you can turn off all the interjections and pop ups about the absorb combos and shit. It makes the game a lot less ADHD without that shit popping up all the time.

I spent about an hour and a half with the game so far now, and I have to admit I really do like it. The gameplay is solid. The dashing and absorbing shit wasn't the most thrilling to watch videos of for near 3 years, but when you're actually playing it's really satisfying.

Sitting at couch distance (rather than PC desk distance) the graphics aren't great, but they're functional. During gameplay they don't look so bad.

IDK guys, while it was fun to shit on the game for the last couple years (especially during the last few months, that pizza explosion trailer, yeesh), I've got be honest and say my early impressions are pretty good. As a long time Mega Man fan, it's scratching the itch.

I have sold it.

GAF told me about this Kickstarter. I hate you GAF.

GAF bought my copy in the end and told me of Stardew Valley. I love you GAF.

Played almost 1 hour and a half and I can say i Like it. Difficulty is spot on, the combo + score + power up system works very well. I can't care less about the graphics so I'm set for a fun ride.

Works fine on PS4, I have v-sync activated and the only noticeable frame rate drops so far are in the water stage (cryo).

Game is up and code doesn't work...oh boy.
Sony? That's on them, I've had that sort of crap with games like Summon Night 5. Just gotta wait.

Ray DLC thing is lame though, but with how widespread that is I'm cautiously optimistic on a timely fix.

IDK, I think you're missing out by not even trying it. Maybe pick it up on a Steam/PSN/Whatever sale for cheap later.

Yea. I'll try tomorrow, bed time.

Even watching that other Gaffer's stream, I still think its like a fun playthrough.

And i'm still shocked that Sonic 4 Ep.1 reviewed better than this as far as "nostalgia fuel" goes, especially with its stiff controls and bland art style and soundtrack.

I saw enough on Youtube to be sure. Also I'm short on money so I'd be missing out on Stardew Valley if I had kept it. Plus GOG even tossed in a copy of Gabriel Knight (already had Spelunky) because of their summer sale promotion and I do adventure games so that's pretty sweet.

Still hung up over the fact that you need to dash into every enemy to actually defeat them. Also, I don't think I've ever seen anyone use those special abilities except the dash and the lemons?

I refuse to believe that Inti Creates messed this up, since their games are always awesome
Gunvolt is good stuff

Well I thought it was pretty blegh from watching videos, but once I got my hands on it tonight I have to admit it is actually quite fun gameplay (see my posts above buried among massive image quoting).

Though you got Stardew Valley and Gabriel Knight out of it, so it sounds like you made out alright! *thumbs up*

If they really feel bad about the way this game comes out, I'd love to see them make up for it in ways.

For now, I'm downloading it on my X1. I'm not so pissed off about anything I'm seeing or hearing; if anything, I kinda hope it gives some compassion to the less professional, non-vets that also have issues with these things too, and face issues.

Every time I decide to get into a KS, it's because seeing the process behind a product is pretty interesting, and it makes the work feel a bit more personal. That it self adds some value, which helps make the end product + that stuff feel nice together, as a full experience.

If I learned anything from the stream, looking back through it... Ben Judd loves Pizza! *ahem* I wonder how pissed off the artist are with how their cross-gen-friendly work turned out? The graphics are one of the things most loudly being decried, but maybe they like them? *shrug* Or they've got a solid blemish on their resumesm heh. They're happy to get it out, but I wonder how their ultimate vision would have looked...

I guess we'll see with Bloodstained whether Inti Creates or Comcept deserves more of the blame.

I'm kind of worried about Recore now though since that's Comcept and Armature.

Somehow I want to play this game. What is wrong with me?

Don't let the reviews get to you. If you're looking for a nice throw back to snes platformers this is it. It even looks like a snes platformer... Seriously.

Has anybody on PSN been able to redeem their code?

Asia psn codes are good got my game and ray dlc and some other dlc via humble bundle then psn.

Sadly I kinda wanna play this.

However, I know I'll regret the purchase.

At least I didn't back it. I feel horrible for those that did, honestly. I was close to donating myself but I was too nervous to pull the trigger.

Someone will probably sell you their key.

Despite this being a huge disaster I'm super pumped to play this. History in the making.

Do you guys think BTS will have cheap keys ?

Probably it looks like a lot of backers are selling their keys now post bad reviews.

Ok so I redeemed my key no problem with in about 15 minutes of recieving the email. This was on Asia psn. Game and all psn downloaded fine, runs fine on a ps4, looks a tad underwhelming, but I think the team behind this parred it down for portability sake. Expect a settings file for the pc version to have better lighting etc in minutes. Over all happy with my purchase. Its the exact Megaman clone I was expecting enemy design is good and the dash mechanic adds to the over all gameplay. Have only completed the first stage and tried the Ray dlc. Really it seems like a decent snes era run and gun platformer. Is there really shoot Up DLC? Graphics could use some work, but so far seems to be exactly what I thought I was getting. Inafune delivered even if not in the same graphical fidelity as the concept art. Patience is what kickstarter teaches us. Hopefully now that Inafune's team knows unreal we will see more games. It also looks like kickstarter backers are far more harsh judges than corporate ceos. The guy delivered on his game, its here and playable.

You can just shoot regular enemies to death, you don't need to dash through them. Dashing through them is for the power-ups and score/combo system. Dashing through them is obviously the "best" way to play but you don't have to play that way.

Ah, I was under the impression that the dashing was a required act (though I guess it still technically is as that's how you acquire the power-ups).

Is saving busted in the DRM free version? I played a few stages earlier, closed the game through the menu, and when I came back nothing was there. I'm looking through all the menus and see no mention of needing to manually save.

From the way this game is designed, the player is expected to dash practically all of the time. It might not be required, but it's required (if that makes any sense).

The whole shoot to weaken/dash to kill setup is IMO really dumb, but if you're gonna play Mighty No9, you might as well embrace it.

I see. I'm going to hold off from this game. Possibly indefinitely, or maybe if it goes on sale eventually. From what I've been seeing of reviews it's ...not good. But yeah, the constant dashing just looks so repetitive to me. It's a pet peeve I guess.
