Okay you guys

My dream scenario is that Pence pulls out 2 hours before the debate goes live to complete this beautiful trainwreck. I want to see a man break on stage as Hillary drives this steak into his brittle, orange heart.

My biggest fear is Trump pulling out and Pence running in his place and crystalising the Republican vote at the last minute as if he's some kind of sane option between Trump and Hilary and is swept into power.

*gags*

Fuck. There's really no part of this that isn't fucking terrible.

If Trump drops out (unlikely based on what he has said so far), it would be obviously forced by the GOP, there is no uniting the GOP before the election. There's also a ton of logistical issues with early voting already started in some states and Trump already on the ballot. Trump can't win now but either can any other replacement.

How much worst could this get? Republicans tell Trump to step down and they lose down ticket seats. Trump stays on and his stink is with them for decades. They try to force him out and he pulls the nuclear option, he's expressed fondness for wishing to use nuclear weapons and he does something crazy like tells hiss supporters to vote Gary Johnson or even democrat. May cost him financially but oh by.

There's no way any replacement could win at this point. Not even hologram Reagan. It's too late in the game.

Pence is apoplectic because he realizes the Trump Stain is on him for life. Never gonna be President.

Why are there no odds on PredictIt for Trump announcing he is born again and has accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior? I give it at least twenty percent by election week.

Put me in the camp that will be utterly surprised that THIS incident is what sinks Trump, of all things.

Every aspect of the man's campaign has spelled disaster thus far, but a "locker room conversation" is what does him in. Just, wow. I mean, we'll see.

The debate on Sunday should be truly entertaining.

"So, Donald, are we going to see your running mate here tonight?"

"He's actually on stage with me right now."

*out comes the sock puppet*

"I have the best running mate. The best!"

*he starts laughing and can't stop*

A Hannity sock puppet.

Pence is probably just even more apoplectic after that snide comment at the Wisconsin stuff. Dude might leave.

He was sunk BEFORE this. Followers of transparent poll aggregation models like Sam Wang's have known this for a while.

The fact that he was already sunk is why so many Republican representatives are jumping ship. They'd be sticking with him otherwise. They don't REALLY care about the misogyny.

I don't know...Trump is done this election and it's likely it'll screw over other Republicans up for election on down ticket contests. I wouldn't be surprised if he just loses it Sunday as he'll just be like a wounded animal lashing out at anyone and anything.

If/when Trump loses, I don't think he'll have much of a lasting impact precisely because he's just one man- it's not like he has some well enunciated set of policies that other people are adopting. He loses (and probably in a blowout) and he'll have simply sunk his own political and business ventures. But Republicans will be fine next election cycle since people will have moved on to how President Hillary is doing.

This would be epic.

How the fuck is this the best alternative American politics has to offer?

Trump will be old news by Thanksgiving.

If he is forced out or "steps down", isn't that kind of scary? I don't want some last minute "moderate" bozo coming out of the Repub party and getting a win against Hillary for no reason.

I still want Trump to stay in so we're guaranteed a POTUS win.

I hope that every media figure who still rides with Trump has their career ruined

Fuck Sean Hannity. What a little bitch

A replacement would have a zero percent chance to win this late in the game. ZERO.

And so is Trump remaining in. But a replacement could help down ticket Republicans, which is why I can't help but think that a replacement is strongly desired. Then again, this party is in shambles. I'm not confident they're organized enough to pull it off.

Too late
Ballots are printed

All Hillary has to say at the debate now is "If you can't even campaign without that falling to pieces, how can you run a country?"

Somehow I don't think pence signing his soul to the devil aka being Trump's vp is going to be a net negative to his political career as it should be. He'll come out on top in this because that's how Republicans work I guess.

Has a VP pick ever backed out before the election before?
McGovern's replacement of Eagleton as VP was disastrous, but I can't think of any situations where the VP himself has backed out. Though I expect it'd be equally disastrous should it occur.

I think that's self-evident at this point without her having to say it.

Fuck. There's really no part of this that isn't fucking terrible.

This really is the election of paranoia based on totally unrealisitic expectations. It blows my mind that some of you think a fucking Presidental election can be won in under a months time after the major GOP candidate drops out. Anyone, including Pence, would be slaughtered worse than Trump probably will be. A campaign does not just materialize out of nowhere.

Per this article that actually is not possible at least without him being renominated by the Repubs:

http://www.npr.org/2016/10/08/49718...ald-trump-to-drop-out-trump-says-he-wont-quit

"The RNC rules allow for replacement of a candidate on death or declining the nomination, but no provision for replacing," said Ginsberg. "At this stage, Donald Trump would have to resign. There's no way to stage a coup."

If Trump were to resign, Ginsberg says, the GOP would have to go through a complicated process to nominate a new candidate.

"Under the rules, if there is a vacancy, it doesn't go to the VP candidate. It's a matter of rules. It can be anyone. Part of what the RNC would have to do is figure out the nomination rules to see who would be eligible. It's an all-bets-are-off scenario. There might be a political consensus for Mike Pence, but it is not mandated by the rules," he said.

To clear up some misconceptions:

1) Trump can't be replaced forcefully at this point. Even if he dies, his name stays on the ballot as the Republican nominee.

2) Trump has already said he refuses to quit. Giuliani and Bannon are whispering in his ear and telling him he still has a shot. Him saying he won't quit is pretty much the one thing I believe him on.

3) Pence knows 2016 is fucked, he's looking at 2020. Look at his statement. He gets the apology in, distances himself, talks about how it was offensive to him as a family man, and dismisses the tape as old news all at once. That shit was crafted in a boardroom.

4) Within five years, Trump is going to look a 60 Minutes reporter in the eye and say "I never tried to win the presidency."

Somehow I don't think pence signing his soul to the devil aka being Trump's vp is going to be a net negative to his political career as it should be. He'll come out on top in this because that's how Republicans work I guess.

It may not kill his career, especially since he's taking an effort to distance himself now, but it'll stagnant it. This fabled President run in 2020 that people see him going for will be stillborn, and if the rumor is true that the Dems want to frame Trump as a sort of anti-Reagan, keeping his run and character continously in reference toward the GOP, I highly doubt he'll even run

Admitting to Sexual assault: big difference. My fucking grandpa drank, cursed like the marine he was and subscribed to Playboy but never once did I hear him speak like that.

Wasn't Trump his political life line? He's very unpopular as governor in his own state of Indiana. And his debate performance came across as self serving -- as if he were angling for a future presidential run.

Why are these people only bothered "as a husband and a father"? You should be bothered as a human fucking being.
Well yes, there's something distinctly patriarchal about all these people being offended mainly on behalf of "their" women.

I mean, not that I'd want to invalidate anyone's sincere reaction to Trump's sexism. But the implications are worth noting.

Also instructive: comparing all this to responses to Trump's racist comments.

I don't really understand this.

Mike Pence makes gesture as if he doesn't condone trump. Cancels some events as if he is distancing himself

But then still supports him and stays on the ticket, implying he's actually ok with trump and what he represents.

Then we have other republican leaders finally rejecting trump. Saying there is no place for that behavior

.... but then will say they will write in Mike Pence's name for president. Even though he is still on the trump ticket. Implying he isn't rejecting trump, but supporting him?

Goddam this party man. Hate democrats so much that they can't do or say what's right: say clearly that trump and all of his followers should be rejected from politics. If pence is still by his side then fuck him for president. Distance yourself from everything trump and don't pander to it in the slightest

They have to stick with the party because that's what they've been elected to do. They were elected on the Republican ticket so they need to support their party even if they see it going down a bad path.

Basically, what they're doing by writing in Pence is voting Not Trump and similar to people voting for Gary Johnson as Not Hillary that makes their vote essentially not count. They're backing a Republican candidate as they should be but Not Trump. They're doing what they can to avoid him being president but still fulfilling their duties.

Their job is pulling them one way and their conscience (much as people don't like to credit this to Repubs :P ) is telling them something else so they're doing what they can to split the difference. Pence votes will NOT go to Trump.

Another thing to keep in mind is that people don't actually reveal their vote so regardless of what they say now they could actually vote Hillary on election day and this is the closest they can get to saying that without committing political suicide. Most will not though because regardless of Trump, Hillary also doesn't represent their platforms.

This is all bullshit and part of the plan. Pence says he wants to let Trump prove himself, Trump will finish the debate and regardless of how terrible it is, Pence will give it the thumbs up and will be back on board while also motivating their audience.

"Trump did so well that it brought Pence back!!!"
