I read about this Milo guy before but never seen or heard him. I watched the interview on YouTube and now I really want to punch him. is he really a gay guy? I feel like he is way overplaying the whole gay stereotype here with the way he talk and acts.

Didn't watch all of it, just snippets, but that was embarrassing, even for Maher, and I like him.

Still though don't preach liberals don't take the bait, then have this douchebag on that you use kid gloves with.

Don't bury the lede there though--it also pointed out that Maher and Milo apparently agree that transgender individuals ain't worth shit and found some common ground on some total bullshit.

The first part at the roundtable. Had to back to the link as it was linked to start from a little later. Is Bill known to be anti-transgender?

I haven't been watching Maher regularly after his show took a nose dive IMO after Ben Affleck appeared on the program and Bill started regularly lashing out at the criticism he got online from fans/liberals over his opinions on Muslims, to the point where he started heckling his own audience. So it doesn't surprise me that he found "common ground" Milo in regards to his "free speech", especially with it being a guest segment. Bill is probably hoping to turn Milo into his next Ann Coulter or S.E. Cupp type panel guest who says really stupid shit against liberals on the panel. The Overtime segment at least gave time for people who have never seen Milo to really see how stupid this guy is but unfortunately that doesn't air on HBO so hopefully it's shared online.

I've never seen it established that he is, and I've studied the man. Ask Ben Shapiro, who used to work with Bannon at Breitbart, had a falling out with Bannon, now hates Bannon... but he thinks the idea of him as a "white supremacist" is a characture.

Both Bannon and Milo seem quite the same to me.. western culture supremacists, defenders of "Christendom", neo-Crusaders, basically lazily dismissed as white supremacists with no evidence since Trump won.

I'm amenable to evidence otherwise. The Milo stuff posted above just seems like his schtick, hard to take seriously... but Bannon is straight faced. He will be easier to pin white supremacy on.
Alright, you're already aware of Bannon's "western culture supremacist" bent, so this should be enough to convince you that race is a part of that same crusade: http://www.theverge.com/2016/11/16/...esidency-chief-strategist-breitbart-tech-visa

The bit where Milo and Bill are bonding and laughing about 'weirdos in bathrooms' is fucking disgusting. Bill got played like a fool, and showed some real ugliness to boot.

A woman using the women's locker room and bathroom isn't fucking weird.

This motherfucker is an horrific, hateful, bigoted anti-Semite. No, he technically isn't a Nazi, but if people have to dance around technicalities to avoid... Something... (Offending people? What are we avoiding by not labeling him a Nazi? I dunno...) Then the vitriol this man deserves may not reach him.

Who said anything about offending anyone? You don't think he's 'technically' a Nazi, but you want to use the word because of the connotations it carries. I get that. However...

You call a guy a Nazi long enough, his name becomes associated with evil and fascism.

You call everyone who has shitty ideals a Nazi long enough, it loses the power it has; it becomes a meaningless catch-all term that gets ignored in the noise.

It's time to put aside your hang-ups and get down and dirty. Drag this guy through the mud. There is no reason not to stoop to his level to defame him and deny him a platform. If he acts high and mighty about it, we insult him and drag him back down.

I don't have any hang-ups, ta. When someone gets labelled a Nazi, like Dick 'punch-bag' Spencer, I want it to resonate and have meaning. Like you, I want to wield the horrific connotations it carries like a weapon, I simply don't want it blunted through overuse or hitting 'walls' (my analogy is on shaky ground here, but you get my point). If it becomes defacto liberal witch-hunt tool, it's as good as useless.

Yes,he does write for Breitbart

I've never read it, so I can't comment there. They advocate genocide?

That's what the fuck I'm saying!

Why is this distinction important to y'all?

I said why in my original post.

So

Where was that "evisceration" people were so sure Maher was going to perform?

I thought Maher did as good as he could. He let Milo hang himself with his rude, ridiculous views. He said so many ridiculous things and instead of debating them Maher just said oh gee moving on to give Milo more time to say more ridiculous stuff but never giving it validity by debating it.

Milo came off as silly and totally illogical. It was perfect.

I'm not talking specifically about Milos, but the potential overuse of the term 'Nazi', which was being discussed earlier.
That's not important thought not at all in regards to THIS mother fucker in the thread title. Whether he himself is a nazi is fucking irrelevant his actions enables and emboldens them to the point where he's become they're fucking mascot. Mascots don't play have to play for the sports team they rep in order to do just that. But keep wasting everyone's time on pointless fucking semantics and pedantry

I don't really get why he thinks he doesn't have the right to free speech. He says a bunch of bullshit, then people respond with "Fuck that's a lot of bullshit." Where is his right to free speech being violated?

Why is everyone saying Hitler was a Nazi? I've never read a history book but we shouldn't overuse this term.

Hello? Have you been paying attention for the last year +?

Trump is in the white house, even though he "hanged himself with his rude, ridiculous views" FOR HIS ENTIRE CAMPAIGN. People LOVE that. Because guess what, there are a lot of white folks out there who feel powerless because they are faced with the certainty of shifting demographics and are terrified that white supremacy is coming to an end.

NOT giving this shit a platform and instead, giving the marginalized and the victimized platforms, that's how you actually change the discussion. The overton window has moved so far to the right, Milo's talking points are just par for the fucking course for conservatives.

Bill seems to really be a fan of Milo.

I shouldn't be surprised.

Maher was basically laughing along with Milo.

Yeah, except for the parts where he agreed with the rude, ridiculous views, or espoused his own rude, ridiculous views.

Maher was basically laughing along with Milo.

He sees him as a young comedian-type...like remember when he was like "You're early in your career"..during the segment.

The problem is that even if its a Andy Kaufman long bit considering his targets/goals lime up firmly with bigots and racists and mainstream nazi views. The facr he can retreat and say, "But im a gay jew!" doesnt mean the message isnt out there and normalized. And there is the biggest sin, "Its not funny".

This perplexes me.

This homophobic racist sexist transphobic white supremacist conservative is also gay but also Catholic?! It doesn't add up!

Yes it does.

Milo is the gay equivalent of a coon. A tap-dancing Uncle Tom performing for the massa.

His point isn't to expand on the 'discussion" or even make sense. It's to make bigots feel better about their terrible views because "Look! This freak right here confirms what I believe!"

And, through this, he gets paid.

Maher has always been like that. Thats why people liked him. When he made a 90 minute film of him taking the piss out of religion. His shows where he takes the piss out of people like Wayne Brady not being "Black enough" among other things.

Only difference between Maher and Milo is age and the legitimacy of a TV program. Nobody should have expected him to do anything other than what he did.

I won't even write his name.

The troll wants attention, and this was clearly another win for him. There aren't many people I wouldn't ever want to have to debate, but he is one of those people, because as toxic as his beliefs are, and as logically unsound as they are, I've never seen him come away from a debate like this looking bad.

He's a snake, no doubt, but he's incredibly dangerous.

You beat a snake like that, but not trying to engage or debate them in the first place.

I'm very disappointed in Bill Maher (as happens pretty regularly) for inviting the troll on, and for letting his own ego fool him into thinking that he could be the one to expose the troll for what he is.

This perplexes me.

This homophobic racist sexist transphobic white supremacist conservative is also gay but also Catholic?! It doesn't add up!

He's using his current overblown persona to make it seem like a form of comedy where everything is ironic and nothing is real, therefore any negative reactions people have to him are their fault for "having no sense of humor".

I seem to recall reading bits of Milo's writing from years ago, before he was famous and attached to Brietbart. It came off as a familiar kind of angst and self-loathing. Considered being gay a disorder. Claimed women tormenting men makes them gay. Wondered how the broken gay man can be a complete human being without procreation. Said he would take a "gay cure" if such a thing was real as it would be better to be normal and happy. That sort of bullshit.

It is why, during the roundtable, he tried to slip in the idea that most gay men are "confused" and unhappy. Essentially, the Milo people see today seems like a character put on by someone who simply hates themselves. And has projected it out onto everyone else who doesn't represent the ideal his broken inner child feels guilty about failing to live up to: a strong, religious, very white (and very wealthy) father figure.

So nothing good came from this

Shocking
Debate wise, it was pretty much a draw. Bill did go softball on him during the 1 on 1. Overtime swung it but not everyone watches overtime.

However people got to see how strange and confused Milo is. His complete lack of professionalism will put off a lot of people.

It's pretty clear that he didn't believe the bolded. It seems like he just wanted to make a new friend.

Yeah. I'm glad the American people showed what they think of unprofessional idiots back in November. Wait a second.

My take, I don't think he's performing for anyone but himself.

I think he's genuinely a guy with rightwing views, who also happens to be gay. I've never seen any indication that this can't happen.

BUT.

He is absolutely only interested in his own fame. If he went out there and was a gay liberal, he would have a lot more competition. Plus I don't think his heart would be in it. So instead, he plays up his right wing views, and tries to be as controversial as possible in ways that will upset the left and set him apart from the left.

There is value in being Donald Trump's one openly gay friend. That is a position that will bring to whoever holds it a lot of fame and fortune.

Plus he loves pissing people off. He relishes it. The bigger his platform is the more people he can piss off.

But let me be clear about this:

He is using Donald Trump and the alt right movement for his own self gain.

He might really be a neo Nazi, he might not, but what I genuinely think he is, is a sociopath. He doesn't care who he offends in order to make more money and get more people watching what he does.

I'd never heard of him until gamergate, which he attached himself to and successfully used to catapult himself to more fame and fortune with. But that's transparently what it was. The only stuff I could find that he wrote about gaming before gamergate was critical of gaming as a whole.

So to recap. Genuinely right wing, sociopath, troll.

He's only performing for his own enjoyment and gain, and the people that stand by him and signal boost can't see past how good it is to have a gay ally to realize exactly what he is.

It's pretty clear that he didn't believe the former. It seems like he just wanted to make a new friend.

I didn't watch it, and I won't, so I'll take your word for it.

And that's even more shameful.

What is the point of this show? Short interviews that go nowhere while the audience boos and woos? 12 minute "debates" that consist of insult-hurling and vague position taking, also annoyingly interrupted by audience boos and woos? I remember thinking back to something like Crossfire, which I am familiar with due to the Frank Zappa episode (I am not American), and despite there being plenty of talking over eachother and insults being thrown around then, at least it was longer and generally more moderated. And there was no annoying audience. What a waste of time.

Milo is their chief propagandist because of these implied contradictions, not in spite of them. It provides legitimacy to their ideas because even someone who "should" be of the opposition can see the truth. When we see eg John McCain speak out against trump, the impact of his words feel greater and more honest because he's a Republican, someone we shouldn't expect to vociferously speak out against the head of their party. There's a reason Milo resonated and was elevated as mouthpiece of the alt-right.

What wouldve been "good" to you? To see Milo cower into his seat and cry from the validity of the opposing points the panel had? He had nothing of substance to offer, touted an unfounded statistic about sex crime, and called a group of intellects "awful people". That worked out great for me. He's the idiot that I and the wife were told he was.

Yep, the unfounded statistic that most people in the world believe. It was a great idea not to challenge him on it.
