well, i also liked the answers he gave, but i began from a place where i said i likey him. seems grappling townie to me. just like you.

im not moving my vote for now. i wanna hear from stan.

i think he's the only one who hasnt checked in. and we dont have a lot of time in our day phases in this game.

Staying silent on specifics for now (as I don't want to give away my reads just yet), but there's a couple other people I'm curious about too.

I must admit I'm very curious to see how Stanley will play this game. He's typically not been a high poster from what I can tell, but his intuition is sharp.

yeah, there's a few more people i'd like to hear from too. quiet ones are concerning for me cuz i cant form a proper read on them

*pokes people's butts*

oh im talking about sorian. he's GAFia's rep in the Mafia Invitational. he won the first round, which is awesome but lets see how he does in the next one.

i learned about 'peeking' from spectating him over there (at mafia universe)

I see. My GAFia meta is still in development.

you know i was hoping to use that community roomonfire gif when i finally got to post, but yall are acting completely civil and having reasonable discussions in here.
who are you and what have you done with Gafia?

anyway, while i wasn't able to post earlier, i did find a few moments to keep up with the thread and so i have had plenty of time to consider the peeking tom plan of action, and i honestly think its a good idea, cant find any reall problems with it.

consider me #teampeek

however, on that note i did think of a possible sticky situation that might arise from this plan that i dont think anyone else has mentioned.

it comes from the issue of having to maintain the facade of having confirmed another player to be certainly town, when you have no such confirmation. while you may have been heavily leaning town on this player when you made the peak claim, but if that opinion changes (as reads so often do) you are kinda stuck keeping it to yourself, which would be especially problematic if you may have picked up on something scummy about said player that others missed.

its a small issue, but one i do think we should consder.

I'm awake! I was skimming the thread again to get a feel for what people have posted. We still have a few people who have posted very little content of substance, or just plain haven't posted much. Among them, I think Cabot sticks out somewhat. He has so far posted a bare minimum of posts, and has yet to reach the 10 limit, but he was present right at game start. However, most of his posts have been pretty fluffy, with a significant fraction of them being reaction gifs and an avatar quote.. The last time he posted, he said that he would discuss something later, but he hasn't come back to elaborate on that yet.

So:

Nice to see you Stanley. I actually haven't considered that wrinkle in the plan before. It is true that it might be a problem for the people who are fake-claiming. The only I can think of to get around it is to do the peeking in as formal of a way as possible, and then for all of us to agree to disregard the peeks as being consequential. At that point, it becomes a matter of the cops having to pretend that the people they cleared have not actually been cleared, but that is a blessing in disguise since we might very well have a godfather in our midst anyways.

Good evening, Gentlemen Stan.

Thank you for eloquently wording something that has troubled me about the long-term game of peeking. Consistency or lack thereof...

not a bad idea at all for how to get around this wrinkle,
my initial idea was to just hope it didn't happen, and in the event that it did the player who made the read would just have to use their best judgement on if breaking kayfabe was worth it, but this would work a lot better.
only issue with it is its another layer to the plan that everyone has to play by, else the whole thing becomes kinda pointless.

While peeking might be a problem in the long-term, the player population will be steadily decreasing anyway due to votes and possible NK's, so it'll get organically easier to hit the cop. Reads are constantly in flux anyway; a target du jour may deliver scum the next day and be hailed a saviour.

In the short term (clearing one person if/when the cop flips) I think it's worth the risk.

Rereading the thread, I’ve settled on a few new reads. Among the stragglers, Lone Prodigy stands the most out to me. The majority of his posts have been repetitions of what was already just discussed on the page without adding commentary or additional thoughts. Giving the appearance of taking care of business when in reality: all fluff.

Examples? See this very page. The post above this space.

I think that if we agree to peek it has to be everyone. We need the possible pool of cops to be as large as possible for this to work effectively IMO, so if peeking is what we're doing I think it's got to be all or nothing. And I am down with that, I just don't want it to be like a handful of vanilla townies + cop since at that point I'm not sure if it's stronger than just letting the cop do their own thing.

I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on it though, particularly Splinter's since he was initially against it.
I'm not actually against peeking. My first post was against it as an excuse to attack Kawl a bit - although I abandoned that idea mid-post when I realised it was too easy for him to answer to.

After that I was against Kawl's advice relating to peeking, not peeking itself.

Fake peeking is a tried and true strategy. Play Like A Pro™

I noticed both of you being there for the opening and then promptly going silent.

It's called going to bed, Ty.

People, team yurop does exist. I was in bed.

I'm uncertain of SkyOdin, melon and yeeny right now.

Kawl's a bit of a neutral read, but hes actively contributing so he's ruled out for day 1. I'll do peeking.

I'm a little cautious of Splinter, and with that let's talk, lover.

VOTE: *Splinter

What do you make of yeeny vs Sophia? It's interesting Sophia has went on the aggressive so early against someone she's had no experience against as a player. We've had games where scum bus each other day 1, though I'm not leaning that way particularly right now.

Thoughts?

I don't like some of Sophia's posts. This case for example:

I think that timidity is what is bothering me. I mean, it's understandable given that Kawl has proposed a relatively new meta strategy, but... take a look at some of these posts.

Feels like it's a bit back and forth between confidence and timidity. Maybe I'm looking into things too much tho.
I think that's a strange thing to scumread. The posts she quoted look like someone exploring a new idea. I don't really see being unsure as scummy?

That's not to say that Sky is town. It's a new idea to him regardless of his own alignment.

On a related read, I don't like Yn's positive reaction to Sophia's post. Nor do I like her suddenly turning on Sophia in response to being questioned, and then I think she continued to townread her? It looks like a combination of sucking up to someone, and using aggression to dissuade an attack.

Ynnny, explain yourself.

I think Sophia's case against Ynnny is weaker than her case against SkyOdin*. I know she hasnt played with Ynnny before (noone has), but I think she knows her well enough to expect some fluffy comments within her posts.

However, the way she moved from SkyOdin to Ynnny actually made me town read her a little more. It's sensible play to be put pressure on anyone you can at this point, and of course we'll be clutching at straws for any case made this early.

*This sounds weird because I just criticized her case against SkyOdin. But with SkyOdin she identified a pattern of behaviour and tried to analyse it - it is only the analysis I disagree with. With Ynnny she is trying to analyse something that most people would already expect to see, that's what I mean by it being "weaker".

STOP METAGAMING U FILTHY DRUNK >:O

Yo, if I have to work this little to give a reason for voting someone, this is gonna be a real good time.

No, this was not the reason. I don't know what to make of you constructing a reason for it, yeeny.

It was gonna be Kawl or Splinter but I went for secret option C - yeenypoo who makes up reasons for me to vote her.

Cheers, m8.

Eh, I mean the game changes as the days go forward: hitting scum on a lynch, the cop dying in the night, some peek targets dying through lynch or night kill.

Your point seems to come from the angle of the game is in one set state and doesn't change.

Well that's kind of the problem. Your reads will change but night action results won't. I guess the solution (as someone else already mentioned) is to agree to ignore all results (even the real cop ignoring their own).

I think it should be OK if the cop is aware of this and doesn't ignore their investigation targets.

One thing to keep in mind is that a lot of setups have a godfather so a cleared person isn't 100% confirmed.
The setup with zero PR has a godfather who's useless, but in the other scum setups (each equally likely) we have 5 with a godfather and just 2 without.

Therefore it should be natural for the cop to doubt their cleared peeps as well. If you're a cop be subtle about it as well. For everyone else a fake peek is just a gesture and those they've peeked can still be suspicious.

Judging from the OP I assume if there is a Godfather in play, Town will have a suitable buff to balance it.

People, team yurop does exist. I was in bed.

This feels like a Brexit joke just waiting to happen

i got a weird feeling from Sophia's aggression here,
particularly getting on Yin's case about coasting posts, when we were like 8 hours into the game at that point so obviously people wouldn't have a a lot to talk about.
although the similar attitude toward both yin and sky stops me from thinking it was an early busing attempt, and more just an excessive attempt to put pressure on whoever she can.
probably not that bad of an idea in this bold new world of 24hr day phases

sounds like a tailored randomisation.
The scum setup is chosen depending on how many Ts (ordinary town, no PR) are rolled. Note that serial killer is third party.
Scum Roles
TTTTTTT = Goon + Godfather, Serial Killer (Investigation Immune OR 1-Shot Bulletproof)
TTTTTT = Goon + Godfather
TTTTT = Goon + Godfather, Serial Killer (Investigation Immune OR 1-Shot Bulletproof)
TTTT = 2 Goons + Roleblocker
TTT = 2 Goons + Roleblocker, Serial Killer (Investigation Immune OR 1-Shot Bulletproof)
TT = Goon + Roleblocker + Godfather
T = Goon + Roleblocker + Godfather, Serial Killer (Investigation Immune OR 1-Shot Bulletproof)
0 Ts = Goon + Roleblocker + Godfather

Welp, no use in crying about it now, let's do this town!

Vote: Kawl_USC

This is not random unlike my usual day one votes. Belong late does have it's perks it seems. I don't like him going straight to power role speculation right out of the gate. It's very much WIFOM, but doing so is a very easy way for a scum player to get a head start and some town leadership cred.

VOTE: Terrabyte20xx

Would you see Kawl lynched this day for the reason you gave?

OMG Cabot you weirdo

You were the one that fake voted me in discord before even this game started so of course I thought the reasons had to do with prior game. What was I supposed to think when you actually do it in game? Geez.

If you don't wanna create meta gaming, then don't faux vote people in discord before the game started! Also with the reason saying you were 'practising' for doing it. WTH~

It felt as if it was genuine jokingness from where I'm standing m8

I find that interesting.

I don't think it was a leap on my part to assume that this was a continuation of the same joke because it was straight out of the gate... :p like... Third post after the day started, hey?

Care to explain why then? Elucidate this poor spider.

There wasn't a real reason. I just place a vote on someone at the start, and as I said Kawl and Splinter would have been too obvious as my first choice.

I mean it was a leap, you leaped over any potential thoughts of my own and assumed your own thoughts for my vote. That's not particularly helpful when it comes to determining my alignment, unless you already know it or you don't particularly care about it, which leans more to scum than town.

IDK i thought sophsoph was reaching because at least i've brought to the table a kind of analysis on where players are (with the factions of pro-peek, anti-peek and middlegrounders)

i've never played with her though but i think she's too detail oriented and usually over analyze things so... feels like struggling townie to me.

Mmm? I townread Soph and Sky because both seems genuinely trying to scumhunt, even if they are flailing at it.

But her calling me coasting was a bit ridic so I had to call her out on it, i guess. She hasn't really brought anything of value to the table with regards to her 'hunches' about SkyOdin, specially since she admitted that she herself is at fault of the same trait.

I like it when people try to scumhunt though. In Archer, Haly the Godfather was more invested talking about mechanic of the mission instead of scumhunting. It made him look as if he was contributing where he was actually just making a lot of helpful-seeming posts that did not really provide any slants or hints of his reads.

So, thats why I'm just watching Soph and Sky-O at the moment.

well, while we are grasping at straws.

Given that I think we've established that more peeks total strengthen the whole idea of peeking, I feel confident people will get on board now. Inless someone can explain how peeks from everyone would be detrimental to town I will see the lack of a peek as scummy.

Or rather I'll say I want it to be all or nothing. And if we decide on all and people back out, clearly that would be scummy.

this bugged me,
though i cant decide if its the guilttriping people into going with his plan, or just setting up an easy opportunity to accuse someone of being scum.

So before Sophia came into the game I was not liking Kristoffers posts. Amidst all the discussion of peeking on page 2 he was posting random stuff like

I'm literally not reading a single post, I'm just going to wait for Cabot to get lyncharoonied

Then on the third page, when there's a lot of discussion going on, his contribution was just putting the vote list up. Maybe it's silly but I often see players putting a vote list up as just a way to appear active without actually contributing anything, and Krisstoffer really wasn't contributing anything. So naturally I was apprehensive of Sophia when she joined the game, and while she's been posting a lot which is great, I haven't seen anything in her big reads posts, not with SkyOdin as Splinter pointed out, or with Yeeny. So I'm not not feeling good about her right now.

Yeeny's posted a lot of fluff but from what I've seen in other Mafia threads that's her posting style so I don't really get anything from it. Maybe a slight town read.

With L_P, I figure from Bar Mafia that's just his posting style. He was town in that game and played the same way as he is now, so I think it's too early to say he's coasting just yet.
