MLB 2014-2015 Offseason |OT| Playoff Dreaming

Aaron Judge is going to play RF when Beltran's contract is up.
Have to see how he handles double A first, and Yankees could easily make room for him if they sign Upton or Heyward.

I would have rather them waited for them to sign someone after this season as Shields is getting up there in age and could fall off completely at any given moment.
For the contract he ended up signing he's worth the risk.
Almost as bizarre as a reliever tearing his ACL while shagging flyballs in the OF.
Let's not talk about that...

I just don't see the Cardinals trading a piece like Miller for one year of Heyward. My guess is he's signed before he hits FA. At least I hope that's the case.

Even if he goes to FA (he might; Holliday did before signing with STL) the front office seems to know what it will take to get him signed (which is a lot). They've repeatedly talked about the ability to flex "payroll muscle."

Helps that Holliday's contract will be off the books in 2017 unless they pick up his option, which I actually read they might do (and maybe even restructure it to add on years). Which doesn't make sense to me unless

Bring the DH to the NL

Haven't heard anything about the Jays talks with Boston about Allen Craig. I suppose those rich buggers expect a top prospect.
C'mon man, throw us a bone.

So its cool to see that TJ is making his yearly appearance decimating clubs in ST.

Might as well name the thread:

Tommy John |OT| Some pitching included

“We’re betting on the fact that last year has to be some sort of aberration; why would he all of a sudden fall off a cliff?” general manager Brian Cashman said. “We put $5 million on the table and gambled that way. We hope it pays off.”

Cashman is an idiot. Since when has Stephen Drew ever been good?

Going to the Rockies vs White Soxs game on friday. I'll give my expert opinions from my knowledge gained after one year of actually following baseball.

Well, I guess I won't be getting overly excited about the Jays and wasting a lot of time watching them lose another summer season this year.

Gee, Montero, take your pick.

I'd even take offers for Thor if they threw in enough pieces.

Seriously though, Gee is a really nice #4 guy with a good amount of upside. We just don't have the room in our rotation for him anymore.

He has a really nice variety of weapons, his curve could be a plus pitch, he has a nice slider. His FB has movement.

He's a good pitcher.

Pray for Sanchez =\

I think him being a starter is going to be a terrible failure.

ESPN ranks the closers going into the season.

1. Greg Holland (KC)
2. Aroldis Chapman (CIN)
3. Craig Kimbrel (ATL)
4. Dellin Betances (NYY)
5. Kenley Jansen (LAD)
6. David Robertson (CWS)
7. Jonathan Papelbon (PHI)
8. Steve Cishek (MIA)
9. Huston Street (LAA)
10. Mark Melancon (PIT)
11. Zach Britton (BAL)
12. Joaquin Benoit (SD)
13. Drew Storen (WSH)
14. Santiago Casilla (SF)
15. Trevor Rosenthal (STL)
16. Koji Uehara (BOS)
17. Glen Perkins (MIN)
18. Sean Doolittle (OAK)
19. Hector Rondon (CHC)
20. Cody Allen (CLE)
21. Jennry Mejia (NYM)
22. Luke Gregerson (HOU)
23. Brett Cecil (TOR)
24. Fernando Rodney (SEA)
25. Joe Nathan (DET)
26. Addison Reed (ARI)
27. Neftali Feliz (TEX)
28. LaTroy Hawkins (COL)
29. Grant Balfour (TB)
30. Francisco Rodriguez (MIL)

No way Koji is only #16. I'd take him over Britton, Rosey, Casilla, Cishek, Storen and probably Benoit.

Also Betances isn't closing, Miller is.

Papelbon 7?

If he is still good the Jays might as well bite the bullet and trade for him now and pay the silly contract

He's still pretty good, but there's no way he's *that* much of an upgrade over Cecil. If they have any money to spend, they're better off using in pretty much everywhere outside of closer.

One good thing about the evil empire is the YES Network. They're televising a lot of spring training games and SportsNet is showing them.

FSMW has not aired one Cards game yet. :(

But good news is that they have a lot to air coming up starting tomorrow.

I love Cecil but I would take a proven Papelbon over him.
Cecil better used as a lefty specialist.
I'd love to see Papelbon become a Jay, it's not my money, but I have strong doubts the Jays are willing to do it. Maybe desperation can make it happen.

Soriano is still out there as a leftover, unwanted FA. Jays probably trying to lowball offer for him but dealing with Boras ain't easy. Even still, it's probably a much more economical option than the trade+contract for Papelbon.

I know the big three are entirely interchangeable, but I would say Kimbrel is the guy. I think I read that he only shares his sustained WHIP/ERA/Ks over so many years with Rivera.

Chapman is primed to have one of those Gagne like special years soon. That FB/Change combo is going to be unhittable if he just gets even a little control.

If Jansen was healthy he probably could be considered part of an interchangeable top 4.

Us fantasy types understand the volatility of closers. You could consider a big batch of the mid-tier interchangeable, and probably a good chunk of that list losing the job at sometime during the year.

Oh yeah I mean closers are one of the weirdest things in baseball in that regard. We (and arbitrators) consider Holland the Shit but all the work by Davis or Herrera is just secondary even if they're the ones tackling the middle of the order in the seventh. We need more stats besides Holds really, although I do love that it has the same weight as the Save in your league.

The point being a closer is just a reliever that gets to pitch after all the hard work is over and we all know relievers rarely have real prodigious careers, unless they get lucky with health.
