MLB 2014 Season |OT2| - Derek Jeter Appreciation Thread

I think it's rather presumptuous to say "when" he adjusts. It's a very hard adjustment to make, and it's been the demise of many players in the past.

In addition to Jak's point about our resident Cubs fan being a bit of a cockeyed optimist, Deadspin had a really interesting article about Baez's swing this afternoon. Basically, the argument is he's going to have to make some huge adjustments if he wants to be successful against big league pitching. He wastes all his power in the beginning of his swing, and he forces himself to commit to swinging way too early. He may well do it, but as you said, lots of guys haven't been able to make that adjustment.

This is a rather poor argument. Nothing is guaranteed in the majors

Yes. But this is a pattern with Baez as well. He was hovering below the Mendoza line in AA before he got promoted to AAA and then sucked there for a month as well. He has struggled with new levels before, his approach at the plate is nowhere as advanced as Soler, Bryant, or Russell.

This was his minor league season before getting called up.

April: .617 OPS, .271 wOBA, 34.9% K%, 5.5% BB%, 55.9% contact%

May: .738 OPS, .325 wOBA, 34.5% K%, 6.3% BB%, 57.6% contact%

June: .816 OPS, .351 wOBA, 29.3% K%, 9.5% BB%, 67.7% contact%

July: .944 OPS, .370 wOBA, 21.6% K%, 6.8% BB%, 70.1% contact%

EDIT: double by shit crawford lol. This is like the first game against Ryu at the start of the season.

This is an impossible game to win now. The Dodgers offense playing catch up against a good pitcher...
