The reason the Red Sox still had Basabe for this deal is perhaps the funniest thing to have ever happened in baseball.

There are 2 Luis Basabes in baseball, they were both signed by the Red Sox, and they're twins. Luis Alexander Basabe is a serious prospect. Luis Alejandro Basabe isn't.

In July, the DBacks traded Brad Ziegler to the Red Sox for a package around Alejandro. It was widely speculated to the point that it's basically proven true based on how blatantly Red Sox friendly the deal was, and the asking price on Ziegler from other teams, that the DBacks got the 2 Basabes confused and thought they were getting Alexander. Oops.

Lesson of the day: DO YOUR FUCKING HOMEWORK WHEN IT COMES TO TRADES

This is the most Diamondback story that could have ever been written.

Dombrowski said Hahn called him on Friday and told him he no longer needed Benintendi or Betts to get a deal done.
That was stupid. No prospect is a sure thing and the White Sox had a proven ace in Sale. They definitely should have gone after some established MLB-level talent.

Greatly dislike this argument.

Prospects have value, Moancada, Kopech, Basabes and a flyer is good value for a guy like Sale who's velo has dropped every year (intentional by his coaching staff of not) and with an elbow injury waiting to happen.

It was equitable value. Asking for a guy like Betts in return for him is basically a 1/1 trade.

Neal Huntington said Pirates could add two starters if they "make sense for us." Also, "comfortable adding nobody if it’s just not there."

we're winning 70 games this season. :/

Red Sox seemingly don't understand the notion of cogent team building.

What? The Red Sox look really good for the foreseeable future. Sale/Price/Porcello/Pomeranz/Rodriguez in the rotation. Betts, Benintendi, and Bradley Jr in the outfield (new killer Bs?). Bogaerts and a still-good Pedroia up the middle?

Bullpen is a concern I guess. But man that team looks good. And a lot of these guys are good to be there for more than just a couple seasons.

will gain confidence one day
So we could add two starters if they're recently shit and are reclamatiom projects or approaching 40 and years removed from their glory days. Or we could do nothing.

We'll be happy to send you both Dickey and Colon come June. Just wait it out.

great return for the chisox, but i also kind of like it for boston. dombrowski loves trading away top prospects more than anyone, but he's pretty good at it.

#Rockies also considered strong suitor for Trumbo, along with #Orioles. Multitude of available options at 1B, including Encarnacion.

Per @harding_at_mlb, #Rockies already talking to #WhiteSox about Abreu. Frazier, as potential FA, would come at lower acquisition cost.

Anthony DiComo ‏@AnthonyDiComo
Terry Collins said he envisions playing David Wright as often as four out of every five games. That's 130 total, if he stays healthy.

Interesting development; Jays met with Jose Bautista today and are back in talks with him

Orioles prefer to keep draft, too, but to explain why Bautista doesn't fit, they told JB camp: O's fans just don't like him

Brandon Laird (former Yankee minor leaguer, now Fighters' 3B, led NPB in HRs last year including some massive ones in the postseason) may play for Mexico in WBC.

He's become hugely popular in Hokkaido since 2015, "Mr Sushi" with a trademark sushi chopping motion as he heads toward third base after hitting a homer.

Ortiz thinking of coming back?

I feel like it would be a requirement for him to give something back to every team that gave him something on his farewell tour if he comes back.

he won't be back though, he ended on a high note and knows for a fact that there is no way in hell he will have nearly as good of a season as last one to end on.

end on a high note.
