MLB Regular Season 2013 |OT2| - Revenge of the Umpires

Pitchers should pitch and field their position. I would rather have a DH than give pitchers another job on top of what they already do. Noting interesting about watching an automatic out.

yeah agreed its just a momentum killer

but I also agree with the logic that a guy who just hits is kinda artificial

DH also provides interesting ways to utilize it. For example Jeter used it when coming off the DL, A-Rod should see time there, managers can play with the spot in their lineup to get guys in that perhaps are not 100% ready to play the field. Older players can use it, shitty defenders with good bats can use it.

Fuck, let's go full gimmick then. Use the Designated Runner to run for the slowest guy in the lineup. Designated Fielder, who if he catches a fly ball it counts as two outs. Designated Manager can be used if the manager is confused and wants to phone a friend.

There is a better chance of the DH coming to the NL than NL style play making it's way to the AL. You NL guys may have no choice but to live with it in the future.

Always wondered why we didn't see more Brendan Ryan-style defensive SS specialists in the AL due to the DH- that's like a pitcher hitting, and I assume he's a decent bunter.
Not allowed, apparently.

Wikipedia said:
In Major League Baseball, the designated hitter is a hitter who does not play a position, but instead fills in the batting order for the pitcher. The DH may only be used for the pitcher (and not any other position player), as stated in Rule 6.10. Use of the DH is optional, but must be determined prior to the start of the game. If a team does not begin a game with a DH, the pitcher must bat for the entire game.

never heard about the cat, apparently

well of course, the union will never get rid of it because it creates jobs. Still dumb though.

First one sound like a mutant pinch runner and the last one is already in play with Girardi. It's called 'the binder.'

Sandy Alderson Q and A with Fatcesa:
- The Mets liked Eric Young Jr. for a while, having tried to acquire him at least twice in the last two seasons.

- It is time to start making final judgements on players like Ike Davis, Ruben Tejada, Lucas Duda, etc.. “You can’t analyze over and over. … We’re evaluating, but sometimes you just have to make changes.”

- If Josh Satin ends up playing more than Ike Davis, “So be it.”

- He has to be open minded about shortstop, since Tejada has never had any power, his OBP has declined and his range is not what it used to be. “He’ll have to earn his way back to the MLB level.”

- It is unlikely that Rafeal Montero and Noah Syndergaard will be be promoted to the big-leagues this season, mostly because of limited innings and because there is no urgent need to add either player to the 40-man roster. Jacob deGrom, though, might see some major league time in September.

- He has been in contact with at least one team about acquiring a power hitter, “but prices are high.”
nice...

Trout's stats right now are ridiculously close to what he did last season:

2012: .326/.399/.564/.409 wOBA/166 wRC+
2013: .322/.399/.565/.410 wOBA/166 wRC+

I'd rather see an expanded roster to 28 than the DH.

The real issue with the non-DH in the NL is that there are so many relievers now, that it limits the bench options for NL clubs, since bench players need to be able to play multiple position (for the most part)

Also, not all pitchers are automatic outs. Usually your better pitchers will hit about as well as BJ Upton.

.

while I wouldn't mind seeing the rosters expanded given the changes to how pitchers are used in the recent years (I mean it's not uncommon for a starter to only be expected to go 6 innings anymore compared to not to long ago where they were expected to go at least 7 and if they were doing well pitch the whole game)

but before that I want two new teams added (or heck if they really want to keep each league completely even 6 new teams with one new team in each division) so that we can keep the national league and american league separate and not have interleague play for the entire year. yeah i know 6 new teams in one go would be crazy bit it sure would look pretty standings wise.... 6 divisions each with 6 teams in them :p

30 teams is enough.

nah... I want a team in Las Vegas... perhaps the Gamblers... yeah that sounds good
I also think it would be fun to have a team in mexico.... the players need to have their papers in order to go to Toronto anyways so adding mexico shouldn't be hard... at least then the "world" series could at least include the three major countries in NA :p

of course I don't hate the idea of just getting rid of two teams to fix the interleague junk... but that doesn't seem fair to the 30 marlins fans nor the 100 astros fans :p... plus I doubt the players union would go for the idea of killing off 50+ major league jobs by killing off two teams.

I suppose, though that would work even better to try to attract tourists as that would mean you could count on it always being comfortable in there and not having games cancelled due to rain.

I am sure there are other spots than las vegas that would work well as well, it's just the one I can think of that has the best revenue potential that isn't another California or New York team.

What needs to happen is the return of the balanced schedule, doing away with the AL and NL, and realigning the divisions. Also, as much as I don't like it, make everyone use the DH and expand the rosters permanently to 26.

Division 1: Mets, Phillies, Pirates, Red Sox, Yankees
Division 2: Braves, Marlins, Nationals, Orioles, Rays
Division 3: Blue Jays, Brewers, Indians, Reds, Tigers
Division 4: Cardinals, Cubs, Royals, Twins, White Sox
Division 5: Astros, Diamondbacks, Padres, Rangers, Rockies
Division 6: Angels, Athletics, Dodgers, Giants, Mariners

Wild Card playoff thing needs to be a 3-game series in the team's stadium with the better record. Fuck that one-game crap. Also, something needs to happen with the All-Star Game: stop fan voting or quit allowing it to decide homefield in the World Series.

on one hand I feel like baseball would lose something by getting rid of the AL and NL, on the other hand making the yankees/mets, white sox/cubs and angels/dodgers actually competing in the same division could be fun... eiither way it would suck hard core for the pirates/mets being in the same division with all 3 phillies, red sox, and yankees (each i believe has a higher payroll than the pirates and mets combined or at least close to it)

I also agree that the wild card playoff needs to be expanded... if you are going to make it a thing, you might as well make it a real thing. A single game playoff is just to much of a crap shoot.

As for the all star game, at the very least the managers should be required to try to win it. Don't have fans vote for starters but instead just allow them to vote in players they want to see be on the all star team. Let the managers use who they want from the all star pool to make up the starting line up and seriously play to win. One way to get players to agree to it is work out some decent sized bonus based on how much you played in the game time an amount that differs depending on if you won or lost or something. I mean the package they currently give the players is so small compared to most of their contracts that the payout likely doesn't even matter to them currently.

but yeah it would require a serious change to the all star game if you want it to still decide who gets home field advantage and actually feel like it was the best of each league facing off.

Well I think having it one gm makes it so teams that win the division have some advantage. I also think DH all leagues will happen. More players and protect pitchers. Also, offense is going down, so all DH might add some runs.
