Monitoring the situation in Iran

There were talks that UK knew about the operation beforehand, which makes their overall readiness of their fleet even worse .
UK is broke. If you want the UK to run a big navy like its 1910 then someone has to pay for it and isn't going to be Churchill's ghost.

Multiple news media reporting that a F-35 took ground fire over Iran, although the video looks sketchy af.

Everyone know what was going to happen when the Ford was ordered to the med.

I don't think Trump felt that much planning was really necessary because, being the greatest nation in the world with the finest people and most powerful military, why bother? Can't we just un-tick everyone on the alliances screen, attack-move, celebrate AMERICAN POWER in headlines, and go home?

Just read a hilarious news story where Trump had a meeting with the Japanese PM. He said he attacked Iran without consulting allies because he wanted the element of surprise like Pearl Harbor, then he asked the Japanese PM why didn't you tell us about Pearl Harbor? The smile left her face. lol

Israel has been waiting for this for a very long time.

The strategy is apparently to continuously assassinate every regime leader until they capitulate. Unprecedented but could work, we're starting to see the cracks already.
Their attack on the Iranian natural gas fields shared with Qatar backfired horribly. Once again Trump had to say it wouldn't happen again just like when Israel bombed the Iranian negotiating team in Qatar.

Not a good look imo. Makes the US look weak and under the control of Bibi and his domestic political agenda.

She had said prior to the meeting that it would be very difficult or words to that effect. She could only have imagined how it ended up lol.

Heading to Crete for repairs after serious fire in laundry in early March, apparently also issues with the shitters.

Should be relieved by the USS George H.W Bush.

That was after, when the Ford was ordered to the med you know something was going to kick off.

Clearly Ford has been on station a bit too long with some crews needing some down time. Was this the first extended cruise for the Ford?

I think these huge ships have fires relatively frequently. They are floating castles with kitchens and stuff after all that be on the move months without docking. The bigger thing is that the fact that they don't need three of them in the region anymore.

It is fine. The thing is that Gulf countries will sooner or later have to decide what to do. IRGC is in shambles and out of control so it cannot be reigned it by the central command anymore. If the public unrest or rebellion won't start I would not be surprised if they will just obliterate most of the infrastructure of Iran and then leave.

I am personally more annoyed that they did not put the price cap on WTI oil. The oil companies have gotten too greedy but I guess they did not want to increase Brent price too much for other countries. Would not be surprised if Bessent was involved there and told that it would not be a great idea to price cap it for now.

Yeah I saw the video in this thread a minute ago and I'm still trying to calm down.

I don't know if Trump understands Japanese culture but he just shot himself in the foot.

There are some interesting rumors going around about the latest incident on the Ford.

The USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) is expected to return to Souda Naval Base in Crete next week from the it current position in the Northern Red Sea, following a recent fire which cause serious damage to some areas of the ship and left over 600 sailors and crewmembers without proper beds. The Ford will return to Crete for refueling, but also for an investigation into the large fire that broke out aboard the vessel on March 12, with investigators probing the possibility that the fire was deliberately caused by crewmembers to terminate their extended mission, according to a source who spoke to the Greek daily newspaper Kathimerini.

She also acknowledged that President Trump is the only person who can bring peace and prosperity across the world. Fact check: true.
True, perhaps, but he can also bring down the world. That's the gravity of holding the position he does. Choices/etc - make them informed ones, not ones based 'gut feeling'. You can do better than that...

Anyway I do vainly wish sometimes you people such as yourself can take up a little more more of a critical view of trump, you know rather than an unwavering support regardless of his actions. I think if he shat in your mother's soup you would still find justification for it.

They had an 8 month deployment in 2023/2024, extended I think because of the Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023.

I could just imagine the Pearl Harbour line being delivered brilliantly in a Hot Shots movie by Lloyd Bridges, or perhaps Leslie Nielsen in the Naked Gun.

Could even go well in a Faulty Towers-esque bit ala Don't Mention the War, culminating with John Cleese tying his tie around his head and pretending to fly around the room like a kamikaze pilot.

Will join this hit collection

Plus that moment when he showed the south africa president the video with a guy shouting to kill the boers.

They may have frequent fires but nothing that would cause 600 bunks to be unlivable....

Not a fan of the rising fuel prices, can't the US just go all in and fuck up Iran and install their proxy already? Who's gonna stop them? Europe with their strong worded letters?

Iraq, Afghanistan - not exactly great success stories that anyone is eager to try again.

There's another funny interaction that Trump has with another world leader, it was Turkish President Erdogan at the White house, where Trump says, "This guy knows about rigged elections better than anybody," and points to the Turkish president. lol

It's widely known in geopolitics that Turkey has democratically backslide in recent years where election outcomes are questionable. But still funny as hell under the circumstances.

Honestly, I like the rawness of his comments.

All these slimey politicians hiding behind niceties and trying to push their incompetences, failures, and abuses under the rug. Usually it 'works' in the sense no one talks about those issues.

And Trump just says the simple truth to their faces.

He sealed a major partnership with Japan and deepened our friendship, so the comments aren't too important. And he was very warm with Takaichi, pulling out chairs for her and escorting her around personally, as a gentleman. Those are the things the Japanese people on socials are commenting about mainly.

Some of the very same people cheered on the closing of the Keystone Pipeline. Fascinating behavior.

Don't think you realize just how much of the US' muscular influence it has over the rest of the world will be compromised and damaged as a result of the many irresponsible and wasteful actions of this administration, including this ill-conceived war.
Based on what, precisely? Because they're actually using it?
Which it has all but eroded with stupid policies and rhetoric aimed at the entire word.
Muscular influence, not "soft power" UN bullshit.

We are having to live amongst some really detestable people. People we HAVE to call our countrymen, but who are willingly undermining our Constitution at any and every turn they can take advantage of.
That's my hot-ass, lava take.

I mean the US is using it's muscular power right now. Certainly the strongest military in the world and all, but I strongly doubt the inept leadership of the Trump Admin will accomplish anything that benefits the American people with this war. It looks more like US soldiers fighting and dying on behalf of Israel and the Gulf States.

Our grandchildren won't have to worry one day about being nuked by the death cult country.

We do have to worry about the sleeper cells let in by the recent traitors of Americans, however.

yeah man, we get absolutely zero benefit from the fighting on behalf of the petrodollar other than create a consistent international demand for dollars so we can borrow cheap and export inflation abroad. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Something that can get overlooked with these comedic responses like the Pearl Harbor quip from President Trump is that he is also concisely answering the question in a way people -and especially the public- can immediately understand.

Isn't that second us carrier removing itself from fight ? I think AL is moving to indian base for repairs after "accident". To me it seems that administration is deathly scared about image of US army and it's biggest assets now and they will do everything to maintain pristine image for enemies. I don't think it works though. Iran war seems to show what everyone has been talking about since around 2005 in military circles. That in light of drones your AA is useless which means that nasty ballistic missiles will go through carrier group AA defense.

Iran is half of the size of US with topography that would give any ground forces commanders nightmares and it has close to 90milion population. More than half of its size are mountain, barely any flat terrains. US couldn't win in Afganistan after 20 years and afganistan was basically bunch of people with rocks and sticks precisely because they couldn't deal with it's topography which is much more leaniant to invading forces than Iran's.

I don't see how US can win this war frankly. US doesn't have enough ground forces to invade it. To invade such big country you need draft into 2-4 milion soldiers at least and this will be hardest war for US as drones proliferated everywhere so it will be same meatgrinder as russia vs ukraine.

This is Iran's topography. In order to get to center of iran you are essetnially riding through valleys of death from which you can be ambushed easily from positions deep into mountains that are not possible to reach with bunker busting bombs. Add to that drones + mines and you have recipe for never ending production of caskets to who ever decides to invade them.

There is a reason why those guys are there before humans could even write.

SJXLkkX.png

From reports they also seem to spend last 50 years building vast underground networks and since they are oil state they had ton of money to do it well. Same reports say that their main operation hubs are around 1km underground same as Russian's, Chinese etc. Not even nuclear bombs will take them out.

If you can see their topography then you can also see that whole of strait is in reach of artilery fire from it's mountain range. If Iran wants to close straight it will close it and nothing you can do about it.

The best way to invade Iran is from pakistani side but that still gets you valleys of death just not as bad ones as with other routes but still you are looking at serious casulties.

Unless US is willing to commit mass of bodies and from looks of it no one has appetite for actual ground war in US there is no condition under which US can win this war.

Moreover the more time this war will go the better Iran forces will adapt to US hardware and strategies same way Ukrainians did. At start they were badly beaten but gradually over time they build up capabilities, tactics etc. where they could stop russians. Same thing happened in Afganistan. They were beaten, then reorganized, learned US tactics and started then to hears them, instead of using normal anti vehicle mines which humvess were pretty secure against with modification (in sense that crew can survive) they started to mass produce ied with any amount of explosives they want so they can adapt so not only humvess were being blown up but also apcs and other harder hardware.
