Monster Hunter 3 Tri Official Site Updated

Dual Swords are gone :(

Been trying out other weapons in MH:FU and not really liking them. They all give better defensive capabilities other than roll but I loved the speed of the Dual blades. Sword and shield is kinda close but I can't seem to do an attack that attacks something above me(Like the spinning attack of DS)

curious, anyone have dibs on the official thread yet? I might take a jab at it if someone else wants to do the online thread...

Luigiv said he was gonna make it, but man... your threads also always look kind of awesome... :lol

I don't care who makes it, just make the OP so awesome that people won't barge in port begging or looking at me like I'm some niche weak sauce gamer when I'm playing MH3 T_T

Yeah, you're suppose to give them away. She was probably just making an assumption, the demos were sent with basically zero instructions. Every other demo offer that's been sent to GameStop in the past couple of years have been preorder-only, so it's not unreasonable to make that assumption.

Thanks. I wanted to give the game a try, plus my gal pal expressed interest in it. My only experience with the series was about 90 seconds with one of the PSP games. A buddy of mine handed it to me and I couldn't figure out what to do.

Most of my interest comes from something being free, though. And I don't blame the girl working at the store, retail is stressful after all.

I had the same idea! only when I got to Gamestop they were sold out of endless ocean, so I picked up Animal Crossing City Folk with Wii speak for $40 bucks. The wife loves AC and I am ready for MH3

Cant Wait!

I did that too. I wanted EO2 and now I have Wiispeak for MH3. I might buy AC now so I have another game that uses it.

I thought Nintendo was publishing it in EU?

I'm quoting you!

I'm very curious about it actually, if I could use a headset instead of the awful Wii Speak I would be much happier. It would also help out my friends who don't have Wii Speak and don't want to shell out $20 to voice chat in one game.

They are, but it's very much a silent publisher role, ala Sony publishing Namco, EA publishing Valve, etc.

Basically Nintendo does the advertising there?

What about in NA? Is Capcom going solo?

Capcom doesn't have a proper European presense so, historically, they've always gone through a proxy.

I can't speak for the US though.

Can anyone definitively confirm that USB headsets do or do not work with MH3? Would be nice to know if I have to hunt down a Wii Speak and if my wife has to hear me scream across the room.

No clue what I'm gonna do. If worse comes to worst, I'll play it all single player.

I'm sure I could match my time with some of Eurogaf, but for how far people will be away the connection could be a mess. And I doubt I'll be able to get my friend to play online from his own house.

So yeah, how's single player? Even going online by myself, how is it?

The hype is building! I still can't even figure out what you do in this game but I'm starting to want it!

Isn't this weird? I have only the vaguest sense of the gist to this game and yet I'm pretty interested.

I remember seeing something on some Wii hacking boards (gbatemp) that said USB headsets did not for Wii Speak

Don't remind me how shitty the PAL branch of Capcom is!!
If worse come to worst there's always Gaf for Wiispeak MH3 :D

You most definitely do not have to "scream" to use WiiSpeak. You just talk normally.

Actually you can bury the speak part of wiispeak under a pile of junk and just speak and it'll record your voice just fine!

I've found the single player to be very enjoyable in MHFU. Pick up the demo, as long as you enjoy the basic gameplay I think you'll enjoy it and there is a ton of content, so it'll keep you busy for quite awhile. Even with the lag I think the online should still be quite playable so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

I don't currently have my own Wii Speak, but I have used it, and it's not awful by any means. In fact, it works surprisingly well. When you get a whole bunch of people in one room, it may start to get thrown off a bit, but for the most part, it's a good little device. I definitely plan on getting one for MHTri.

Damn. That's disappointing. Looks like rather than screaming I'll be whispering (wife is a pharmacy student, constant studying).

Well Wii speak picks up audio from decent distances, so you can just talk like you normally would in a headset. Just talk like you would in a normal conversation and you'll be alright.

Its on Capcom's own servers right? I dont think distance would be a problem. Heck even when playing with others through ad-hoc party tunneling service with MHF2, I never had any lag. Im pretty sure you wont have to worry about lag with capcom's dedicated servers either.

Will do captain!

Wii Speak is actually quite exceptional considering how indirect it is compared to a dedicated headset with microphone. The only problem with the device is that Nintendo didn't bother to support it. Otherwise, it's a nice, little piece of tech. So yeah, if you get one for this game folks please don't scream.

Do you have to play in a completely silent room? If it's so sensitive, won't it pick up sounds from the game + ambient noise + other people talking?

I'm sure they'll have volume settings to adjust the sounds of the game down to a level that they don't interfere with a person's speaking voice, but other people talking? Yes. It's supposed to do that. The idea is for it to operate as a communal product.

It certainly wouldn't hurt for the room to be as quiet as possible, but you don't need to play in a vacuum for it to work properly. The device does a surprisingly good job of noise cancellation (including the game noise), so it's not usually an issue.

This IGN video (insert obligatory IGN groan) does a decent job of illustrating the device's capabilities.

The problem stems from not only me talking but the noise of others talking. Oh well, she'll just have to deal while I kill giant monsters with an axe :D. Plenty justification.

That's a pity, I always wanted a microphone that could do that :(

Tried the demo. Was very frustrating. Very slow. Very methodical. Wasn't really having fun except when I was trying out the Hammer.

Is this the kind of game that needs multiplayer? Because the demo kinda turned me off. =/

You mean others talking inside the game? You can still put on headphones for that.

I realize that. Was just hoping that I could use my USB headset. Not a big deal. Now the problem becomes putting down the game long enough to study for my Network+ exam. Or is it the other way around...? :lol

anybody in canada/vancouver get the demo yet? i tried pacific centre eb but the guy there didn't even know there was a demo. and gave the typical line that demos are for those that pre-order. gonna try cambie gamestop later today, though doesn't seem promising.

yep, that's monster hunter. it aint devil may cry or even zelda. it takes a while to get into the groove, but once there, it feels tons better than phantasy star o/u. actually... it seems to be designed in a way that makes every successful hit feel like an accomplishment...

I felt the same way at first. But I kept messing around with it and eventually the controls sorta clicked for me. I then started focusing on damaging just certain parts of the monsters and trying to memorize/avoid their attacks. That grew to predictive counter attacking. Before I knew it, I was hooked.

The best way for me to describe it is that, to me, it was a lot like my first taste of Demon's Souls. The first 30 minutes of play time convinced me that I had wasted money on an import. But after an hour or so with it, I found the depth of the gameplay and discovered the games personality and character.

Though my monster hunting experience is limited to the short demo, I have a feeling like MH3 will be much the same in terms of gaining appreciation for the game with time spent. (And I'm sure the more experienced players here can easily confirm/deny what I'm thinking.)

Yeah, I sort of get the design they're shooting for. I got that you're suppose to memorize attacks. I got that you're suppose to predict movements. There's certainly depth. Just wasn't having a whole lot of fun with it. Instead of a feeling of satisfaction of killing something, it was more of a "about fucking time that thing died." Doesn't really help that there's next to no indication of the enemy's current health (except for the occasional limping).

just finished the first hunt on the demo. Wow what a weird experience. The controls feel a bit wonky at first but the reward for taking down a monster feels great. After my first failed attempt i came back into it with the lance shield weapon layout and it helped a ton to be able to guard and creep forward then lay down a combo. Im afraid of that other hunt though :(

edit : To be clear i thought the demo was kick ass and im really looking forward to it. Also i used my classic controller pro for it.

I own one and used it quite extensivly when I played Animal Crossing. Now keep in mind that Animal Crossing is a very quiet game with low key music and not many sound effects. Yet despite how subtle it was every loud sound came through (door jingles and stuff). There were also times I would hear my own voice echo. I hate the excuse of "turn down your sound" because people don't buy nice sound systems only to not use them.

I love the idea of Wii Speak, I'd much rather have a top box unit than put on a headset. I think with some good directional microphone tech it could be done well. However from what I can tell Wii Speak is just a normal microphone. If I could circumvent it with a headset I would gladly do so.

Alright heres the deal. Almost every Gamestop has the demos in early, however, some are completely clueless that its NOT a preorder bonus. Capcom needs to send out a press release or some update to all Gamestop stores, or else people who arent already MH fans (and have preordered) arent going to easily pick up one.

I grabbed mine, but had to explain the promo. The preorder bonus is the 5 bucks off and 500 wii points at purchase.

EDIT: Or maybe they wont put out one till the 8th, since they arent even supposed to be set up yet.
