Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate announced for Wii U/3DS, coming to West, no 3DS online

Can someone explain the online to me? I played MH: Tri a very little bit on Wii, but never online.

Do you enter lobbies, get matched into parties and hunt? Is it that simple?

Tri had a rather fleshed out City system, you would enter a City that could hold up to 100 people and find rooms for what you needed or wanted to do.

3U's online probably won't be the same. I imagine it's mostly all menu based now, until you arrive in a 4 person group.

Well, in Tri, you get a list of servers and pick one, then pick a city, then pick a room, all from a bunch of lists. Servers have different tags with different level restrictions like "rookies" and stuff like that. There is no automatic matchmaking or anything.

It's kind of like PSO, if you ever played that.

cool, thanks.

When will the demo be updated on the Wii U eShop in west coast time?

Yea when do demos come out in general for the eshop? I think I will download the 3DS version first then Wii U version even though Wii U will be the one I buy first.

The Sonic and Rayman demos showed up on Wii U on a Wednesday night. I'm not sure if they're still doing it like that. The 3DS eShop updates at noon EST on Thursdays.

"We don't have that feature within Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate – really, the way that we approach making the title for the Wii U was that we wanted to make the Wii U GamePad subscreen a compliment to the main screen. So instead of making the screens replaceable or being able to switch them, we really wanted to make sure that players are utilizing both real estate of the screens, in conjunction with each other."

Much like Capcom's previous 'Event Quests,' Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate will be bolstered by free DLC after the game launches. "In regards to new content people can be looking forward to, we're going to be releasing free DLC quests for players to enjoy. We definitely have a lot of free DLC content in the wings, prepared for the players out there; they can definitely look forward to enjoying new content frequently as the game goes on."
Event Quest update =)

So Dragon's Dogma and this have somewhat similar combat systems as far as I can tell.
What are the differences (pros and cons) between the two different series? (I only really want to add one or the other to my backlog)

This is not true, they are in fact completely different... it would be like comparing bayonetta/DMC/Godhand to something say... like dynasty warriors.
monster hunter is rectrictive combat(meaning you cant 1000 hit combo something).. where as dragons dogma has a more fluid combat(where you can do that Crazy combos and grapple on enemies)

Another way to think of it: Monster Hunter doesn't empower you through the capabilities your character, it empowers you through what you overcome as the player.

I haven't played Dragon's Dogma, but Monster Hunter isn't an RPG in the traditional sense, if at all. Certainly not an open-world game. You don't really explore. The maps are small; you memorize them so you can gather the items you want or track down a fleeing enemy.

This game is going to hit the eshop day one, right?

I want that on my system at anytime.

"Launch window," whatever that means. I think it will be there, but they want to give themselves some wiggle room in case something stupid trips it up.

Considering that the "Launch window" end March 31st, I'd say it's pretty safe to say that MH3U is hitting the eShop day 1.
Which is good because I WANT THAT ON MY WII U AT ALL TIMES!

Now I hope that the 3DS version also hits the eShop day 1...

Any idea when demos are updated on the AUS eshop?

Which reminds me, i've been wondering if the AUS eshop is the EU eshop or is it separate?

Launch window for the game, I think they meant. Which is obviously vaguer.

oh what, really? I've wanted this game digital for sure... now I'm not so sure anymore.

I'm sooooo stuffed up with fucking launch windows!

My guess is that it would be on eShop day one, but the fact that they say launch window is just in case there is complications when the game releases, thus the vagueness.

Edit: Andrex are you gonna make a google document for the online GAF player list for the OT?

Easily the greatest use of this feature was inventory management, not particularly an exciting thing to talk about but perhaps one of the greatest issues facing monster slayers. When you've got a backpack full of 50 items and you desperately need to find that potion or suffer certain death, having a quick shortcut on the WiiPad is incredibly useful. In fact, this exact scenario saved my bacon when I was fighting this big lion-cat-bird thing.
How disrespectful.

Feels good having your ban lifted.

While I was thinking of some rules for local multiplayer drunk hunt for Thoraxes, I thought it might be interested to make some other rules up for multiplayer in general. Not sure if this would work, or if anyone had any interest in it. it wouldn't replace the "normal" playing of the game, but just something to do for fun once in a while. input welcome... and needed

not sure if there would be any reward for winning in-game or otherwise other than bragging rights.

  1. so the idea would be to do some sort of 2v2 where you started a dual monster quest, like 2 diablos, and the first team to capture their monster would "win." if the other team paints the first monster, you have to go look for the second.
  2. another similar idea would be to do 2v2 with one monster, and the goal is to capture it. so if you see an opponent setting up a trap, you could kick or trip him to stop him from setting their trap. this might be more fun monsters that have less health
  3. another idea would be 3v1 where the team of 3 has to capture and the single player's job is simply prevent a capture. not sure if this is possible.

anyway, I don't really have many ideas for this but it might be cool if we can put something together that works and people are interested.

also, for drinking

drink if you...

set a trap and the monster leaves the area

get hit while sharpening a weapon or otherwise using a item

wake a sleeping monster up with a "weak" attack

get stunned

get tail-whipped

get one-hit killed

can't really think of any others at the moment.. :/

edit: a shot every time you launch a teammate. for sure.

Yeah, it's lame. But I still mostly expect it to be day one.

They got similar themes, the combat and gameplay is not that similar other then thematically (Fight big monsters in epic fashion). If you can only get one I'd get Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen when it released in a month.

I know, I know, I'm in the MH thread. I'm a bigger fan of MH than DD, but I'm also in touch with reality and realize most western gamers are apt to like DD more than MH. I love MH, but some of the gameplay systems are outdated because they haven't changed since release. I'm not talking about lock on either. I'm talking about general awkward animations, the terror mechanic, superman leap, clunky "feel" to combat. It's all just generally awkward, especially to Western audiences. I wish they'd reboot MH in similar fashion to when Mega Man got rebooted into X, but it's not gonna happen. Honestly, the fact that a real console MH game is coming to the US with working online is more than I ever hoped for from MH.

Who bailed you out?
Glad to see you back

I'm not sure I understand the 3DS online thing. You can get online, but you need a lan adapter and a Wii U so if a friend comes over with a 3DS you can go online together instead of just doing local? Does that sound right?
