Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - Demo out [Updated: FAQ and Help]

Today I learned that you actually need to re-launch the Wii U eshop app in order for it to refresh. I assumed it would do that automatically, but alas.

Can I see the button layout within the game?
Also is there a real advantage of using the gamepad pro (wiiu) over the WiiU gamepad after all the button layouts are exactly the same...

Personally, I think the combat is deeper than Souls games. Souls doesn't consider which part of the enemy gets hit.

Does the demo give you Sonic Bombs? You can force him out of the water with those.

Nope. No Sonic Bombs.

And its starting tO get quite frustrating. Fighting in water is a clusterfuck for me. Are there any bosses in this game that require you to fight with them in water?

I kill him faster and faster, just did it with the dual swords in less than 10 min too. What is the glowing power that you can activate with the dual swords for?

I was so stoked the first minute it came up then I had to free up my SD card :( at least my wii u was good to go but it ended up updating a bit after the 3DS shop anyway. 3ds download is going much faster.

You'd have to be literally insane to pick the 3DS version up over U. Dual analog and online play, enough said.

Hmmm, Monster Hunter on PSP had one analog stick and I loved it! Plus you can use touchpad on the 3DS as a second analog, works surprisingly well!

The 3DS demo downloaded fairly quickly. Waiting on the Wii U demo ... only 18% with an 1 hr and 05 min as the estimated time left.. :(.

Yeah, I am not good at this.

No one is at the beginning, particularly when you skip the gradual build up to the quests they put in the demo.

You'll learn and the people online will help you and in a month or so you'll be showing someone the ropes.

Edit: Assuming you're playing on Wii U I guess.

You'll get better :)
I just can't discern the gaps in his attacks. If he's not smacking me about up close, he's darting about the room like a loon. If it is his belly I need to attack, the opportunities to smack it up are few, brief and often from about a mile away. I tried the bow. It didn't help.

Yeah, I am not good at this.

The rabbit is very easy and now I can kill it with my eyes closed.

The dragon on the other hand...

Well, I hope I will have better chances with it in full game. Oh, and is a long sword a good weapon for beginner? I like it's range and speed.

Also, when using a long sword, A=light attack, R=medium attack and X=strong attack?

The game looks and runs great on XL. Had 3D off most of the time as I encountered some ghosting with 3D on.

The controls take some time to get used to but the digital d-pad on the touchscreen works better than I thought it would. To those dug deeper to the demo is it possible to put item short-cuts to the touchscreen?

While the game controls just fine on the 3DS I'll grab the Circle Pad Pro. I just can't live without second analog, especially after Tri on Wii.

To those having a hard time, keep at it! My first experience with Monster Hunter was with the Wii demo which is apparently similar to this one. It took some time but when I finally figured it out I was having a blast.

R is a combo that uses the meter under your life bar. X and A is the dodging slash.

Every time I play MH lol.

I want to enjoy things, I do! I just need more time to get into the groove probably. At the moment its hard to figure out everything.

^thanks for the replies, I'm definitely going to use a sword or at least a close range. I just can't aim for shite with this thing

Be patient. With yourself learning the game and with each hunt when your learning the monster's movesets.

Also, don't automatically think "how do I attack the weakest spot." First try to learn the moveset of the monster and spot easy opening on any body part. With experience, you will become more efficient.

I'd avoid the Greatsword because it requires more timing than the Sword and Shield (SnS). Once you get familiar with the speed of it, the constant sheathing and unsheathing and learn a monster's moveset, then it is easier to wield.

Personally I just attack whenever I get the chance. Getting any damage in is good, otherwise you might be there for awhile waiting for the right opportunity. Also remember to dodge. You'll get use to the patterns and you'll know when they're about to attack, and what attack in no time. Keep it up!

Just beat Lagombi with a Great Sword. I'm gonna have to adjust to the controls, but it works fine for me without a CPP for the 3DS XL. This game is going to be so good.

What's interesting and unique about MH is that a big part of the game is learning your prey. As you hunt, you better understand the movements of each monster, the timing of your attacks, how to dodge, where to dodge, what areas are safe, etc. You go from being terrified of approaching a gigantic monster that can take a third of your health in one swing to rolling around between their legs and nimbly dodging/blocking everything.

The gameplay is a lot more visceral and complex than just "hit target till dead." The game literally improves as your gain experience hunting rather than by gaining experience points. This is why it's so understandably hard for newbies to get into.
