Sorry, I'm trying the Castlevania demo first (it's not as bad as I though it'd be), so I can give my whole afternoon to the MHU demo.

This game is fucking impressive on 3DS. It runs at slightly over 30 fps, sometimes at 45fps, with 3D on. Woah.

I've never played Monster Hunter before. I'm going to give these demos a go. According to the internet, i'll probably like it, and stuff.

bleh, unlocked framerates are a huge pet peeve of mine. It's hard to look at for more than 30 seconds.

Aww, thought it was 60fps with 3D. That was what I read from before. Oh well, doesn't make a big difference. I heard 3D is impressive for the game.

Well, I am on 100mb/s internet and this 890MB file took me 45 minutes.

Not good enough, Nintendo.
Not Nintendo's fault, I'm on much slower Internet and it took less than 15 minutes for me.

Plays well - camera control is a bit awkward and takes getting used to. The 3D is okay but I found it better without - it looks and runs really well.

T_____T

So how is the demo? Same from Japan?

Word on the street (one guy at another forum) is it doesn't, for whatever reason. (Game does of course).

Guess it gives us time to practice without.
Hmm, so it's basically the same demo released in Japan, flaws and all. lol

They should pick a framerate and stick with it; 60 for more fluidity, or 30 and allow for maximum graphics.

Hopefully 4 chose one. Hopefully 60 to make up for the textures.

Probably gonna go pick up the Zombi U bundle here tonight, I suppose I can take a short break from Metal Gear Rising to play the demo.

Now just watch them announce a Monster Hunter Wii U bundle with a special console for NA right after I buy one. Happened with RE5 and my 360...

If it goes beyond 30fps, then it hits 60fps. AFAIK the 3DS cannot display 45FPS without disabling v-sync and tearing and boy, pray you don't ever see tearing on the 3DS because the screen tears from right-to-left instead of top-to-bottom

Wow really impressed with the 3DS demo, especially the framerate. Loved Tri on the Wii and it was nice trying out some of the weapons they didn't include in that game, particularly the dual swords. Wasn't going to bother with the 3DS version as I was just going to get it on the Wii U, but the news of being able to play this version online now might have swayed me.

I only played a bit of Tri on the Wii... so, a series noob. Currently getting my ass handed to me by the novice monster.. well i keep running out of time that is.

Find the dodge button but stick close to the monster otherwise when you've learned its moves.

My download is hilariously slow, maybe because I'm not in the region where the shop is.

It was my first time ever playing Monster Hunter and I just slayed my first monster. Wow, I think I nnow understand why this can be so addicting. Epic 15 minute battles with monsters? Count me the fuck in.

The game looks nice and has a stable framerate. I see no need for CPP, as dpad on touch screen works very well.

3DS gaming season has started. Between this and Castlevania, my wallet is going to cry.

Edit: are there many quests in monster hunter games? Do they all consist of slaying a big monster?

This is what I like to hear! Are you playing on the XL? How about the others?

There are tons. Not all consist of slaying monsters.

PAL Wii U demo downloading (slowly), just started the 3DS one.

On 3DS the game is really beautiful... I'll have to acclimate to the buttons but the touchscreen menu is well made and camera control are easy with the virtual cross.

Going to find the lagombi... (this will probably the first demo where I'll use all my 30 try-outs)

The Claw™ lives? Yes!

Edit: are there many quests in monster hunter games? Do they all consist of slaying a big monster?
Most quests involve slaying a big monster (or two or more). A few involve gathering X amount of materials (from environment, monsters).

Most quests involve slaying a large monster (hence the name of the game). There are also other types of quests; exploration quests give you lots of time to farm ingredients for consumables, ores for smithing, stuff like that. Other quests have you going about slaying X number of minions or collecting Y number of items. But the primary draw of the game is hunting the large monsters.

Never played a Monster Hunter game.

is the combat satisfying? If it is, I think I could like the game. I'll give the demo on try on Wii U tonight.

I see. Thanks for replies. I guess it will be a day 1 purchase for me then ;).

And yes, I'm playing on the XL. Camera control works fine on touch screen.

@up

It took me 15 minutes to kill him.

That's ok, even vets will have trouble killing monsters in the demo. Preset items, equips and only (?) 20min.

In the full game each hunt lasts 50min, and you can use your own items.

The main lure of MH is the meticulous combat. There's a lot of details to go with it.

First time playing a monster hunter game, I keep hitting that snow monster for about 10 minutes and it didn't die, am I doing something wrong?
Big monsters usually take long. Average quest time is 15-25 mins, which involves tracking and chasing. Playing well cuts *so much* time.

There's a dpad on the touchscreen? To act as a second stick? That's brilliant!
