Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - Demo out [Updated: FAQ and Help]

So, the Castlevania and Monster Hunter demos are on the Europe eShop now.

The thing is that when I tried to download the Monster Hunter demo, in this screen showing the age recomendations, appeared also the icon with "online capabilities". Could it be possible that they implemented the online in the Eur and USA version? Or it is going to be the same way as japan?

Capcom should've released a newb-friendly demo that covers the tutorial quests, instead of just throwing you into a boss quest :\

How do you know what an animal's weakspot is? I would assume it would always be the head? That giant rabbit's tummy looks very tempting to my big pointy sword though. Also, I'm guessing they have no health meter?

No health meters but there ARE signs of how messed up the monster is.

Chances are...if it looks squishy...it is.

In any case this demo isn't newbie friendly. It's weird, I see it more preventing sales than anything else.

Not surprising. That's right in Capcom's wheelhouse. The demo really is nothing like the game.

Usually the head but not always. In some cases, the head is actually the toughest part. Connecting with weapons gives you a different feedback. The weakest part usually gives the "meatiest" feel when you hit it.

Probably related to free DLC quests, you can't go online with the 3DS version, unless you do this: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=514685 (currently Japan only)

Play the game like Punch Out, not Darksiders.

Depending on what AI routine you set your helpers as (not sure if that's in the demo), they can attack the monster, set bombs, heal you, and do other various things. They also help distract the monster away from you.

hah play it like Punch out. I like that.

It connects to the Internet to download event quests, that's it.

Ha ha. So I'm right about his tummy?

I can see myself enjoying this. I just hate the idea of taking it slow, playing like Punch Out, and then attacking a part of the body which will take me an hour to down it.

Will keep an ear out for fleshy feedback. :)

Thanks for your valuable input.

MH fans have had to put up with a lot of shit over the years from reviewers, Capcom, Plesioth and most of all people who are new to the series and haven't adjusted to its quirks. Some MH fans have spent so much time with the game that they forget it's the definition of 'acquired taste' and the learning curve is very real.

But I'll put it this way: I don't know anyone who stuck with MH and gave it a fair chance that ended up hating it. I know lots of people that gave up after an hour or so and say it sucks. I know even more who have put hundreds of hours into the series and not just for the multiplayer and loot gathering aspect.

Not saying it's for everyone, but there's a good game here if you've got the patience. A lot of things that feel like faults at first are deliberate game design decisions that in the end make the game better. So don't get too put off at your character flexing for 5 seconds after he chugs that potion.

Hunters of the world, rejoice! See you all in March.

You will get a rough idea based on the look of the monster. Sometimes it's more important to know if a cutting weapon does more/less damage on a body part than let's say a hammer. Like Gianni Merryman said above, using a wiki will show you the hitzones for the monsters for both cutting and impact weapons. The type of elemental attack and its damage also changes not only by monster but also by hitzone.

Ultimately, you'll want to prioritize the body parts based on the types of rewards or subquests you have. Cutting a tail will also earn you an extra carve. Breaking body parts increase the chance of certain loot. Sometimes, it's not safe attacking the most vulnerable body part with a particular weapon, and these are things you get more efficient with as you learn each monster's moveset and the weapons.

Finally, when you play with others, you'll want to learn how to attack the various parts of each monster so that you don't get in your teammates' way. If someone has a hammer, you usually let them attack the head. If someone is trying to cut the tail, you try to make sure you don't interrupt them. Sword and shield users easily find a home attack feet. Longswords... just stay the fuck away from me :)

I usually have a look at Monster hunter wikia, that provides loads of informations about everything you need to know and even more.

To start...you do take it slow.

Eventually though that monster that took you thirty or forty-five minutes to down is beaten and carved in ten minutes.

But that takes practice Sir.

It's up on Wii U!

EDIT: Beaten. But I don't care.

Well cool. Now I can let it download as I take my midterm. Gonna play it at 2:20pm EST. :)

you should probably keep an eye out actually. IIRC if you hit a part that's weak to your weapon attribute the blood splatter will be larger.

Demo's up on 3DS NA.

Anyone what the special attack is used for or how to use it? It seems to pop up on the Wii U controller screen from time to time, but whenever I press it nothing happens.

DAFUQ IS THIS SHIT?! It failed on me, but it's resuming where it left off now, so I'm ok with that. I guess a lot are downloading it right now. :)

Extremely well put.

Downloading the Wii U and 3DS versions simultaneously. Not the best idea.

Edit: LOL the 3DS download got an eShop error.
