Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - Demo out [Updated: FAQ and Help]

Thanks! good to know. I was worried since i couldnt find a video with the track in it.
Interesting. so the track isnt exclusive for the bear-badger fight.

the bear things have their own theme. There's three of em.

that song in particular is location-specific for the mountain stream/misty peaks/whatever they're calling it in NA area.

If I have both the 3DS and Wii U versions:

Is there more than one save file per version?

If I start playing on Wii U and my friend starts playing on 3DS and we play together locally and all that, do we still have the ability to import/export saves from either version into the other? Even if there's only one save per version, will it at least do a direct swap, so I can have two games going on at once, whether I play 3DS and my friend plays Wii U or vice versa?

Capcom.
This demo is terrible. It's obviously suited for the Japanese market to only show what the game will look/control like on each platform, and does zero job in representing what's so great about the full game. They did no work (other than translation) to present this game to new audiences in the west.
They complain about Monster Hunter not gaining much traction in the West? This is the fucking reason. Maybe you should actually create a demo that explains the mechanics of the game to an audience where MH isn't ingrained into the gaming culture.
Some common questions new players I'm sure asked themselves: What's the difference between Barrel Bombs? Why does the big one not explode? What's the whetstone used for? Or food for that matter. BBQ Spit? Why are there two chests? One of them has nothing in it. Flash Bombs only seem to work half the time. Sonic bombs seem to do nothing at all. What's the point of fishing? What's a frog used for? Why would I need bugs?

Why is the Great Sword so slow...? :(

Yes, people can go on the internet, but they shouldn't have to do that, and it's nothing but lazy development.

The reason why I'm pissed is that if Monster Hunter Ultimate doesn't do well, MH4 is going to cost me $350+.

Edit: I love Monster Hunter. OMG.

You can use one save file for both versions. You can transfer between the 2. Only one device can have the save at a time. This is to prevent any syncing issues.

Preach on man. I agree with this. This was one of the things that baffled me, the fact that the items were not explained at all.

It may cost you that much even if MHU does do well. With Capcom there is no guarantee that it will come over! The Demo for Tri was just as bad. Still I have no idea how they can make a demo the gives you all that info. With out being the full game or just be a video of someone else playing. With various pauses and freeze moments to explain everything. The single player will answer most of these question, but the catch is you will have to buy it.

This.

The game is so deep that it would be hard to put ALL of it in the demo without making it a full game.

Speaking of MH4, is it just me or did they make it more like Dragon's Dogma with all the acrobatics and climbing on monsters? I am not sure if I like that. I want to buy both games, not just one.

coming from playing the wii version. in the 3ds version am i missing something or you cant swim down ?

You need to change the direction with the virtual-pad by pressing up and down. You can change the vertical direction that way.

btw, all these questions should be put into the OP in the FAQ.

It's definitely a demo made for people who already know/like Monster Hunter, I agree.

I dunno, maybe add an optional tutorial mode on top of the two hunting quests? "This mode will teach you the skills necessary in becoming a true Monster Hunter. RECOMMENDED FOR BEGINNERS." Boom. Expectation set so anyone who's confused can at least have the ability to learn.
Maybe create a save-able demo with a tiny version of the hub town. Offer a shop with a couple items, a blacksmith who can craft a few new weapons and armor, and allow the player to replay two hunting quests and a gathering quest. This would be effective in giving new players a taste of how Monster Hunter progression works (which is the main draw, aside from whooping the dog-shit out of gigantic monsters).
Maybe they could have used Miiverse in the fucking WiiU demo for new players to be able to ask questions to other hunters. These are just a few ideas. I mean, I'm not the game designer here, and I belted these ideas out in a couple of minutes. They should be the ones coming up with this shit.

Press the home button, then press manual.. All the control stuff is there.

Notice how my previous post didn't mention controls at all as a problem for the demo.

Does anyone know if you can do both local and online multiplayer simultaneously on the Wii U? Say myself and a friend have the Wii U version, another friend has the 3DS version. Can the 3DS play with one Wii U while the other joins them online?

http://www.mh3-ultimate.com/
Someone asked about armour skills. You can find the info there. For the switchaxe in the demo it should be: HG Earplugs, Destructor, Awaken, Demonic Blessing

Some of the new skills are combinations of other skills.

The demo really doesn't do the game justice. I found the best way to figure out if this game was for me was to either rent or buy used the original MH3 Tri since it's basically the same game with more monsters and prettier graphics. I ended up buying it used from GameStop so I could still return it within two weeks and add that money toward the Wii U version.

If Capcom was smart, they would have made it the fist two hours of the game the demo with select 1 and 2 stars quests after collecting resources, crafting armour and weapons and learning the basics. This would have gone well for getting people hooked into the game because they've just learned the ropes and they want more.

I don't know about the MH3U demo, but in MH Tri, the demo came with controller instructions. Unfortunately, the default Wii controls felt counterintuitive. It's one of the only games I can't play with the Wii remote and nunchuck. Some people like it, but I think most found the classic controller Pro to be a lot easier to handle.

Like I said I understand your point, and understand your gripes. The Tri Wii demo is just as bad, and I felt the same way about the demo. Still even with the horrible experience I had already decided to buy the full game. Once I was able to play the single player of the real game. It all started to make since. With Tri being the first game on a Nintendo console, and a major release for the west. They didn't care to teach us then so I doubt the would do it now.

So this seems like the best place to ask.
Where seems to have the best preorder bonus for monster hunter on WiiU?

All I've found is capcom store comes with Wii Classic Pro controller (also in my expierence they always ship early to me)

Amazon has 20 off if you order both WiiU and 3DS.

Any others I'm missing?

$7+ for shipping sucks. Seeing I have a Wii Classic Controller I can't justify canceling my pre-order for it. :(

Yeah put it in my cart and saw that as well.
I also have a classic already and getting MH a few days before release date isn't a big deal for me.

Looked up and saw Gamestop is offering. Digital Guide. Might go with that since its the actual 100+ page guide.

Personally, a digital guide isn't much of an incentive to pre-order from Gamestop since I can get the exact same information for free on the internet. Right now, I have a $48 no-tax, no shipping newegg pre-order locked in, but I've decided to get the game from the Wii U eShop. I won't need a disc, Nintendo and Capcom get a larger cut and I get 10% in points.

It maybe over, but Best Buy has the buy a Wii U game get another half off. You can do it on preorder games like Monster Hunter, and Lego City.

I don't think this is what he was asking. If I remember right, MHFU and Tri had more than one save slot. I think he's asking if MH3U has multiple saves, and if you could, for example, have a character named "Bob" on slot 1 and a character named "Jim" on slot 2, both on the same Wii U, then transfer only Bob to your 3DS and have a two player hunt with Bob and Jim together, then transfer Bob back to the Wii U, etc.

In other words: more than one save slot per system, y/n?
If Yes, when transferring, can you transfer only one of your saves and then play multiplayer using both, or do you have to transfer all saves at once?

So I hear that if your Wii U is connected to the internet wirelessly then you arent able to transfer your data between the 2 versions of the game. WTF?!?

Been loving the demo but I am a long time fan of the MH series. I can see validity in some people's complaints about it though. The demo was clearly made with existing fans in mind.

Oh well, I'm really excited for the game. I bought a Wii U just for this game. The 19th can't get here soon enough.

so the set up me and my friends have is:

2 3ds
2 Wii u

we totally misunderstood the local play and thought that the 3ds could connect to the wii u and play online OR locally

We're all totally bummed the fuck out now

2 of them are still getting the game as they're roommates but idk about me anymore. I might because of online = I can play with 4 people all the time anyway

I hated every monster hunter for not having a combat system that felt like it was designed in the last 15 years but something about this one clicked with me. I think it might have been the demo giving me a full set of gear and an "easy"(kicked my ass a few times though) boss fight

Question about the Pro Controller: If you play with it is there a way to deactivate the Gamepad or does it always have to stay on?

well, of course you can turn it off. home button / display settings / turn screen of

but I would rather put that thing in the loading stand and put everything important on the screen.

What important thing can you put on their that is not already on the main screen?

You can put the map on there if you'd rather it not be on the main screen, you can put icons on there to call your helpers, which I think is to get them to knock you out of snowballs and stuff. I haven't seen the full range of features but it's fully customizable.

Has to be said-- after beating Plesioth a few times you start seeing him as a joke, a clown. Of course defensively we're pretty damn well off in this demo, no illusions there, but he's not very dangerous underwater and his water spray is one of the easiest attacks to dodge. One trick pony (fish), Plessy, hip check was all you could muster for fame.

Still, much <3 to the ple-bro.

Since the PSP versions, I've frequently tried to get into MH games but with little success. I had pre-ordered The Wii U version to give it one more roll of the dice, but having played the demo I swiftly cancelled it. It's a shame, but I seem to like the idea of what the game is about rather than actually playing it. It really is one of those Marmite games, you either love or hate it (I don't like Marmite).

But then... I love the monster-hunting missions in Peace Walker.

Also fuck the 30 play times restriction of this demo! At this rate the demo is never going to last me until the full game is out. :(

So torn with this. I played the demo 3 times last night...and the controls seem hard as eff. I really want to enjoy this game, but dem controls!

Get the game, but keep playing the demo, as the controlls become almost second nature after a lot of play and become very accurate. also if the camera is a problem, you could buy a circle pad pro when the game comes out. (if its a 3DS your playing it on)

anyways, I think I'm finally getting used to the bow. I was able to kill Lagombi in like 10 minutes with it, and kill Plesioth in a little over 15. I really like the feel of it a lot more than the bowguns, but it is rather underpowered. Still a blast to use :)
