That was really a good way to describe it. Monster Hunter is the Sweet Science of combat-based video games. Float like a butterfly....... then sting the bastard.
Demo be damned, I just preordered it from Best Buy. $32 thanks to GCU and a $10 Gift Card (which is awesome, had no idea until I went to preorder it) means I am taking a $25 risk that based on the reviews seems like not that much of a risk at all, so seemed like a prudent decision when all is said and done. I also want another game besides Zelda to take advantage of my New 3DS XL I will also be picking up.Combat is real time. The concept of choosing your moves, and waiting for them to be executed means that some animations take a while to play out, but everything is all real time. As an example, fighting a fast monster, if you always start a Great Sword swing where the monster is right now, you'll likely miss more often than connect due to its speed. You have to plan ahead, and plan your attacks so it hits moving monsters, depending on the attack, monster, and more.
Definitely check out that demo! There are several faster weapon classes, plus slower ones, but they all have certain animations that play out. Certain weapons lets you roll cancel out of them, but that's dependent on the weapon. Experiment!
I didn't think it was worth having a thread about it as it may have already been mentioned, but, if you live in the US and didn't pre-order it already, a Wal-Mart around you might be selling it already if you wanna pick t up.
Mine was.

I'd go on the "hunt" for the game if I hadn't paid it all off already. Would the register allow the sale though? Should be street dated still.I didn't think it was worth having a thread about it as it may have already been mentioned, but, if you live in the US and didn't pre-order it already, a Wal-Mart around you might be selling it already if you wanna pick t up.

I live in a tiny town, only known for its college lol.Oh goddamnit, why are there no central Walmarts in my city? They're all out in the fucking suburbs
Ah yeah no point in getting this one then for sure. That's tempting but I already have the collectors edition pre-ordered.

Holy shit, Gegz, the man - the myth - the legend, how've you been? Of course I remember!

Needs to grow here first
Its trajectory is driven entirely by the Japanese and their reception of the games. Until it gets big enough around the world dont expect them to take any significant risks and leaps with it

What changes? I'm curious.Have any of the reviews mentioned the changes to the endgame content? The ones I've watched didn't. I know if you dislike them that it most likely won't cause you to skip the game, but it's still something that should be pointed out to prospective buyers.

Will there be a monster hunter 4 for the wii u?
Sadly.... no... Yuri with Capcom unity said for sure no.
Oh shit, my walmart says they have some on hand!

Did you actually buy it? I've heard some people say they found New 3DS on display at Walmarts but the registers blocked purchases.
I love how the review makes it obvious they never even made it out of low rank.

Wait, are you talking about Everwood? That's basically just bonus content for bored endgame players from what I've heard from JP players. G140 quests appear to be the traditional endgame stuff. You get the end game quests randomly after killing monsters in free hunt. You keep doing the quest over and over again to level it up until it becomes even harder than G rank. You can only have 10 quests active at a time and removing one from the active list deletes the quest instead of putting it in your reserve quest list. The best gear no longer comes from crafting, instead it works like charms where you'll get random armor and weapons after beating an endgame quest.
In other words they took the endgame and made it into a shitty MMO. At least the 200+ hours it takes to get there are still fun!

It won't get big as long as it looks like a PS2 game. I think MH4 will have the best launch ever for MH in the west. They put in online which is huge. But really it should have been on PS4. Handhelds are for Japan, Consoles are for NA.
they won't make whole new game just some americans can be happy.. its a localization and I'm quite happy it's finally coming
besides, MH is too huge in japan portables to justify making it a console franchise
You are in the UK arent you

Here's hoping the Nintendo fusion is a real device so we can stopped having to have this argument.

People keep trumpeting this but its not like console versions are never made. Last gen had 2 of them (Portable 3rd HD and MH3U)
They just arent the focus at the moment but that can always change going forward.
I honestly see a series entry for PS4/Vita as a viable option so that they can take advantage of the huge global install base of PS4 while also giving Japan a portable option that they would accept.
even if they put in on PS4 it would make much sense, the install base of the PS4 is huge yes, but few of them would buy a MH for a PS4, and the install base of PS4 in japan isn't that big to justify it, the 3DS is huge there now, so going from it to PS4/Vita wouldn't make sense at all..
oh there's also the problem Crapcom and Sony had with advertising MH when they were on Sony consoles
GameXplain uploaded a preview of the game that I think would be useful for newcomers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pFudaJNsGc
Derek clearly has no clue what he's doing so I think it's a good preview of how you'll play when first starting out.

Ehhhh you're probably better off running off to mining/butterfly areas.Did he just loot the nest after killing that monster? What the heck?! I never even thought to try that in the demo. What else can you loot that probably isn't obvious?
So is single carry over to multiplayer and vice versa?
