Are any of you using the DS? From what I've seen in the demo, that weapon for the coolest changes. Demonize and undemonize mid-combo, forward & side dashes (using demon meter if not demonized), slightly different combos in demon mode. It's a tactical balance between charging meter and recovering stamina. But you know how you sometimes run out of stamina while in demon mode? Instead of getting stuck there after the last hit of your combo, you're allowed to undemonize at the end, continue combo'ing and then still dash when your stamina recovers.

That sounds like fun :)

edit: Wait..did they remove the Treasure Hunts? That was one of my favorite modes!

Biggest thing they dropped IMO was the best thing they added to Tri -- subquests. Why they would cut those I have no idea but I hope they bring 'em back for 3G.

There's also less variety in quests. As far as I can tell, capture quests and repel quests are totally gone? Unless they just don't show up until much later.

Subquests weren't added at Tri, its that its a console thing (well, at least since Dos)

Apparently they're of the opinion you have time for things like subquests and more gathering of basic ingredients in the console versions, and the PSP has the Felyne villages to speed things up.

I did like the subquests though and would like them in the PSP versions as well; I mean, they were optional...

In general I agree about it being too bad there's, at least so far, less variety in the quests, but there's a ton of stuff they improved that I really liked.. That extra 4th page you get for inventory while on quests, and the felyne that brings back stuff from your inventory to the village once per quest were great additions.

Yeah man the shield bash is what I like to call the rath killer. Makes pretty much any fireball an invitation for a shield bash on the head.

Oh interesting - thanks! Kinda curious to go back and see what G and Dos were like...just for the hell of it. I tried the first one back when it hit but I hated it and didn't pick it up again until MHP, so I thought subquests started in Tri.

Agreed on the felyne who carts stuff back for you - I've been using that a lot the past couple of days.

As much as I'm really loving P3, it's making me want a Tri G or MH4 more and more. If Tri only had more content...

Alright MonHun GAF I need your help. I am an idiot and even though I tried to convince myself not to order this game (due to jack of Japanese knowledge on my part) I went ahead and did it anyway in hopes someone will do an english patch for it soon. Anyway, it showed up today and after fiddling around in it for about 30 min I found the tutorial quests. I have done quite a few of them. Do I have to do all of the tutorial quests before I can get regular quests? I have gone to (what I am presuming) is the guild building, but I haven't been able to select any quests. So what's up, am I just missing something super obvious. Keep in mind I have only played about an hours worth Monster Hunter prior to this game so that probably isn't helping out with comprehension either.

Luckily for you, this was just put up yesterday: http://www.youtube.com/user/SocialDissonance#g/c/5384587D6C0198E5

Just got to Hunter Rank 3 finally! This is my character, she's got the full Jinouga set plus sword! I got a ton of resources tonight since me and three random players wanted all of us to get to HR3, so we ended up doing tons of quests together. I'll have to get more cash so I can build up another equipment set.:lol

Oh yeah, we found out the hard way that trapping Jinouga in a shock trap is a really bad idea, haha. :lol

How many levels of the same armor type are there?

Just reg and + or a million color variations like in Unite?

Unite had 3 types. Low rank, hard rank and g-rank

P3 has 2 types, g-rank is probably reserved for the expansion

Just got mine in. Was surprised that a copy of the game is available w/c doesn't import JP games. Snatched it up real quick. :D

Does the asian version work in adhoc with the JP version?

Anyone have a link to weapon trees?

Alright, I am about 3 hours in and I finished that first set of 1 star quests and the first Urgent Quest where you kill the blue bear. I think MH finally got it's hooks in me. Even though I can't understand most of it I am having a blast!:D

Thanks for the link. When they say Iron Ore scraps... You break down an Iron Ore itself?

@darkressurection
Same here... onto that Bullfango quest.

* * *

Not played MHTri (but gazillions of hours with MHF2/2G/FU), I'm having trouble with the switch axe - seems clunky or disjointed in its moves - got nearly pasted by that bear. (aoashira?)

When you forge equipment for yourself there are scraps left over sometimes, which you can use for your Felyne equipment. Alternatively, you can also turn regular materials into scraps too, although I don't think it's a good idea unless you have something in excess.

For those who have played both Portable 3 and Tri, how do the minion counts compare? I know Freedom Unite had a much lower minion count then the PS2 games, so does the same hold true this time around? I can't imagine they'd have been able to keep the game looking as close to Tri as it does without sacrificing the enemy count again.

I can at least tell you that I have seen up to three major monsters in one zone, without any hit in the framerate. Which is amazing.

Was browsing through this thread, but couldn't find anything on it:

Are the t-shirts available in any online shops? Would love to get some

Good god, Gunlance + autoguard skill = IMBA shit.

Quickload or shooting shells results in autoguarding from attacks plus it's intentional from capcom.

Hit HR3 Last night, created a room, and helped about 6 Japanese get HR3 as well. I am having a lot of luck with world C2 on adhoc party. Seems to be more lower ranked players, and a lot more friendly as well.

If you are in the MHP3 version of adhoc party, it shows that worlds A - C are for lower ranked players specifically, which is probably why you're running into so many in C. after that it goes into high level and then any level.

Any one with a complete menu translation around somewhere? The screenshots at mhf3 wiki ain't complete with the submenus.

I seriously hate this new rathalos. I'm taking like 30 mins because this fucker wouldn't stay on the ground. I hate his airborne attacks and his constant flying.

I'm working on one for my local hunter buds, so will be sure to upload it if nothing comes along sooner.

Knowing the talent around here, something is bound to come along sooner :)

There's the manga, but you don't want to read it. Same artist as the one who drew One Piece. I love One Piece, but I associate its art style with humor.

Not to mention, story is kinda silly. Right at the intro, you're informed that your master died due to an accident trying to combine freaking Gunpowder. :lol

Fixed :p They have a very similar artstyle, though, it gets a lot of people confused.

I like what I'm reading about the changes, too bad about the sub quests.

First off,it's already been posted here before.
2)It's not drawn by Oda(One Piece),it's drawn by Hiro Mashima(Rave,Fairy Tail). Both share similar art style.

I'm up to Hunter Rank 5 now... I barely survived against the Narg last night.:lol I was drinking a potion and it rammed me and killed me, and my partners killed it literally while I was being wheeled back to camp.:lol I had to make a mad dash back to the area just to get my carves, and I got the last one just as the message came up to say the quest was over.:lol

Am I the slowest MHP3 player? Just cleared Village chief Star 1 quests :(

AoAshira leggings, hehe time to mix my armors:D
I finished the offline game (well, up to the ending that is; there's more after that), but I'm still barely HR3 online. I like to take my time -- not just doing key quests, using the farm a LOT, etc. I think my game clock is around 50 hours now and I've barely scratched the surface.

BTW I have a hunch armor mixing is more emphasized this time because a lot of the early sets are really similar -- moreso than in Tri. I've had a full Jaggi set for almost all of those 50 hours (upgraded up to I think level 4) and I haven't had much of a reason to change yet.

Nah, 25 hours in and I'm now having to fight Jinouga to go to the next line of offline quests. He is the first time I've failed a quest so far, so glad the difficulty is ramping up.

Kind of annoying that I can't really see what I'm carving... : (

What's the urgent to unlock the 4-star elder quests? I'm there.

I've got some sort of green hood for a helmet and the rest is some sort of cheap battle armor I bought from the village. I should switch to something decent, whats the easiest set that can give me evade dist+?

Monster Hunter Portable 3rd's Metal Gear Quest Hits Christmas Eve
Take on the MGS Solid & Liquid quest for some sneaky Felyne goods.
Posted Dec 17, 2010 at 17:21, By Anoop Gantayat

Capcom and Konami have a sweet little Christmas gift on the way for Monster Hunter Portable 3rd players. The first part of the game's promised Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker collaborations will kick off on Christmas Eve.

At 13:00 on the 24th, Capcom will release the download quest "MGS Solid & Liquid." Clear this event quest, and you'll unlock the Felyne weapon "Solid Neko Knife" and Felyne equipment "Infinite Neko Bandanya" and "Solid Neko Suits." (There are too many puns to count in these names. Neko, by the way, is Japanese for cat.)

I assume the data for these models/textures are already on the disc, and we would just download the enabler code? It would be awesome if they could actually release newly created armor/weapon sets.

Going back and clearing out old/easy quests that I skipped; where are the goldenfish hiding in the Flooded Forest? Do they only turn up if you have goldenfish bait?

Ryuuga - how are you getting the perfect screencaps?

It's a homebrew application I used called "Screenshot Slim". A custom firmware is required, but once installed it's as easy as pressing the note button which then sends the screencaps to your picture folder. I don't have a camera so I find this method much more convenient and of course the output wouldve been better regardless.:lol

I'm glad they took out boring Lao Shan and they still have that Golden Fish thing?!?

Bait? Not really - but surely you'll catch one with it. Try exiting and returning to the area or re-visit other fishing spots.

Just figuring out the fastest way to beat Jhen Mohran(? - the one with the ship) at the elder and prolly farm out some cash in the process. Way fun to play-repeatedly than Lao.

Leg part of his armor is a divine plate, can I get it at the elder or at high rank?

There's all sorts of cool stuff you can do with the right homebrew, I used to output my PSP data to my computer screen, and play with a joypad. I would then be able to record video like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIikeiZC8Ug

Need to reinstall that screenshot plugin again! It's just that there is always a 0.5% chance that it will crash the system..
