Monster Hunter World: Iceborne |OT| ICE, ICE BABY

I'm trying to find the source but I've read that it's been datamined that the difference between blademasters and gunners is 30% defense vs 5% elemental resistance. Except elemental attacks have a physical component so gunners always take more damage anyway haha.

Edit: here we go

New update dropped. Seems pretty disappointing in terms of upgrades for the weapons I play but the finished layered weapon system is great. Thankfully I farmed a bunch of Safi weapons before he left. I just didn't awaken the lot since I wasn't sure if Kulve will powercreep them. Time to do so now. I just hope I have enough dracolite to get them all done.

Bleh. New armor is trash. 99% of the new weapons are garbo.

Layered weapons is great. Now I can hide my Safi weapon.

The MR Kulve fight itself is pretty fun, no terrible gimmicks like that aggro business with Behemoth and Safi or that horrible recon phase for HR Kulve. And taking the time to look over my builds I was able get some minor upgrades out of her stuff. My main spread set remains almost exactly the same except I was able to swap out the pointless Artillery Secret from 4 piece Brachy and sub in Guts from 2 piece Kulve. And thanks to KT beta legs I was able to move skills out of my mantles for my pierce set so that means I can go back to using Rocksteady and Temporal like the terrible player I am.

Actually, she's got 2 gimmicks: "x parts broken" and "x damage done" checks. They're pretty standard and forgettable (in my experience), but boy are folks complaining about them. If you fail a check she just runs away, ending the fight.

(ps. Temporal is life)

Sucks about Alatreon being delayed but it gives me a chance to actually play something else for a change. Already got all the tickets I need from AT Namielle so maybe I can finish up Trails of Cold Steel I-III before Capcom updates.

A little sad to see the game drop off the radar. Anyway, according to their twitter Alatreon seems to be coming out early July so hopefuly only a few days left.

Good news everyone!

Confirmed for July 9 with the developer diary coming July 3. The rumors for a new barioth variant were also true apparently as seen at the last second teaser.

I apologize for not posting a link but I'm at work right now, it's on the official YouTube channel.

awesome! I saw a Kelbi headgear. I wonder if they'll have one with the full horn thou. in any case, looking forward to the update.

side note: PC and console are all caught up in terms of updates right? when this update comes up we'll have it on both console and PC at the same time?

Dev Diary

Yuck at the elemental weapon mechanics for Alatreon. But at least there's finally new content. I think it's been nearly 3 months since I last played.

i have a question about this version

if i buy Monster hunter world regular edition... can i upgrade to iceborne or i have to buy it again?

Alatreon is no fun allowed. Might as well solo it so you can eat the Nova 3 times as opposed to an instant wipe in a group of 4.

EDIT: I take it back. It's actually a really fun fight. Escaton Judgment is still a massive filter for SOS though.

Been trying to farm Blackveil Vaal Hazak and man people cart on it left and right and it's so frustrating.

I haven't played for a few months and using the sword & shield. Did they take away being able to use items and keep your weapon out with it? Every time I use a potion I have to holster my weapon.

I also thought it was a bullshit fight, until I got my shit together, adjusted my build and learned his moveset. Solo, escaton is a non-issue. Even with crappy elemental damage you can easily reach the threshold required to survive. Breaking the horns is also pretty easy. It's the rest of the fight that's actually danb hard, but in a fun and learnable way. After about 3-4 hours of experimenting and practising I got my first kill and now I can consistently down him. Great feeling, haven't felt the "overcoming a wall" feeling since some of the older MH games.

Though playing with randoms with crappy gear that have no idea what element to bring or how the fight works.......that's an entirely different thing. I'd avoid anything harder than Safi with a group like that.

You can either use the item while blocking or use the radial menu to be able to use items without sheathing.

Loved catching up on all the event quests I've missed.

Also I haven't done the Behemoth fight on PC so I attempted that last night and God. People are so clueless to hide behind the rock. I counted over 12 carts. Still haven't completed it yet.

It's probably easier to solo at this point, like most difficult hunts. 90% of random hunts are just a waste of time with people running around like headless chicken.

I've tried to solo it. It's super easy till phase three and he starts picking me up and enraging on me. I figured with people that phase would be much easier.

Anyone on PC wanna help me kill Behemoth? I'm so sick of carting.
You still trying this? Also are you doing normal Behemoth or Extremoth? I vowed to never fight that guy again after getting the layered set which took me like a week or two of spamming the quest, but I could join for a few tries I guess.

Also, I asked the thread a few months ago, asking again - Anybody want to knock out the arena quests to get the layered sets that require coins (on PC)?

I finally got normal Behemoth down. Took forever.

I'd be down to help out in arena quests. I'm free most nights after 8 PM EST.

Completely forgot to post about it since I was playing the Avengers beta but just a reminder to everyone that to celebrate the Iceborne release anniversary Capcom is running previous festival events back to back. Right now the winter event is up. It's a good time to catch up if you missed their unique items.

And if all goes well, the fall update should be right after that.

I've had this game sitting on my steam account since release but I've never really played it. Is it too late to get started?

Probably one of the better times to start if you're looking for a more active multiplayer base. During festivals higher ranked players have more incentive to join lower rank quests cause of ticket rewards. Normally low rank quests are pretty barren since a lot of people have moved on to Iceborne.

Thanks for the reply. Now I just need to decide what weapon to focus on. Too many choices.

Good luck on that. Hope you find one that fits your preferred playstyle. Just remember that you can try them all out in the training room first since the game starts you out with one of each, you can get there by talking to your housekeeper.

Damn I'm glad you posted this, I had no idea we were cycling festivals. I missed both of the Harvest fest or whatever the autumn ones were, though they don't show up on this list.

I think that one's not part of the anniversary cycle cause that's the fall event so it's about to come up naturally. For reference this were the dates that the Harvest Fest came up previously:
Console Dates
  • Starting September 20th 8pm EDT / September 21th 9am JST
  • Ending October 4th 7:59pm EDT / October 5th 8:59am JST
PC Dates
  • Starting October 4th 8pm EDT / October 5th 9am JST
  • Ending October 18th 7:59pm EDT / October 19th 8:59am JST

EDIT: It's true. It really is the last one. :messenger_loudly_crying:
Upcoming stuff seems pretty nice, lots of quality of life stuff in there. And they did say that they'll still keep adding event quests.
And Pejo Pejo looks like fall seasonal event is starting late this year cause of the MR version's theme.

EDIT2:

sad to see it's the final update, but it's been a great ride for sure and there's no regret at all. I have 1000+ hrs on PS4 and 500+ hrs on PC on this game and it's simply wonderful. I think the Halloween Handler skin this year is great and might be the 2nd one I buy for her. being able to 1 hit tenderlize would be great for light weapon users. and from the looks of it, Fatalis set might be able to unlock the caps for all the skills. should be interesting.

hopefully this means they're pulling the team to work on a new MH and we'll hear about the next gen version soon.

Fatalis looks.... Beautiful and I can't believe we're back at the castle, talk about fanservice. It's going to be epic.

God damn, Fatalis looks awesome, and that Palico weapon might be my favorite thing in the game. Halloween event looks fucking LIT! Bummed that this is the last update, but what a ride it's been, I still have a ton of stuff to collect, hell, I still haven't beaten all of the monsters yet.

I hope to god that Clutch Claw does not come back in MH6 though. It's just not a fun mechanic. More than any other MH, this game has far too many times that you can't attack an enemy. Between the roars, hip checks, AoE spins, tremors, wind, flying, charging, etc - you barely have time to actually hit a monster, at least in MR. Add into that the stupid Clutch Claw, now you have to try to land a 6 second interruptable hit on the right part before you can even do real damage since every part seems to be white numbers by default in MR. It's not so bad if the monster can be trapped and you have a good team where everyone is helping and participating, but when you get those dudes that just swing, get hit, heal, repeat, a hunt can take a very long time. Then you get elders that you can't trap, which just makes it a long slog. Then you add on top of that the bullshit 1 hit KO moves like Safi and Behemoth.

Anyways, I am a little past the scope of CC, but I just hope it doesn't come back, or if it does, it loses the tenderize mechanic. I have enjoyed using it to bring down a flying enemy or latch on to an enemy as it runs away.
