Monster Hunter World |OT| Where The Wild Things Are

Going to be picking this up this week, guys at work keep talking good thing about it. Figured I'd hop on the train and try something new out.

as someone who's a first timer on the Monster Hunter series, I have nothing but praise for the game after 80 hours in it. it really feels and plays like a well made game with all the little details tuned to the best they can. the first time you take down a T-Rex looking monster or a flying wyvern, you definitely feel a degree of pride in it. it really satisfies the one's sense of accomplishment.

PS: why does the Kirin armor set make me look like a cowboy stripper...? lol

Well you've not hit High Rank yet.

Yeah, i did yesterday. And obviously still a lot to fight, but there's no way someone can negate it's much easier than previous entries. In other games, LR monsters were already a pain in the ass.
In the past, when i got to HR i would forget about the game because it was too difficult for me. On this one i was actually waiting for it to have the real MH challenge.

I do play Monster Hunter World with my best friend. But we can't play the main quests together.

One of us has to start a main quest and play to a certain point and then quit the quest. Afterwards we can play together. Do I really have to play that way or am I just too stupid?

Is there an explanation of resistance build up? I just hear that when you do something like stun, the monsters get more resistant to stun after getting stunned a lot. Does this resistance builds up so you can't stun them at all?

Yeah, you can't watch cutscenes together, so one has to back out after watching the cutscene.

Thank you WaterAstro. Wow ... that actually sucks ... so you can only play sidequests :-/!

You've already discovered the tedious way that you can do story quests together - you each get to the point where you're fighting the monster and you return from the mission. Then you can both queue up together and fight it properly.

I don't know why they did it that way, but once you get past how stupid it is, at least you can co-op everything together.

yeah, as had been stated, the co-op for the main story is annoying with the whole cutscene situation. I wish they have some way to fix it. that being said, I feel that soloing the storyline's monsters is a good way to learn to master the skills involve in a hunt. as you encounter new monsters, getting knocked out by them even with the best gear you can get at that level is a great way to force you to learn how every monster attacks, they "tell" of their attack and how to dodge and counter. it forces you to upgrade and to learn and I feel that really important, especially once you get to high rank contents. getting knocked out cold in 2 hits while in your best gear is definitely a humbling experience. but successfully blocking/dodging and then counter attack a gigantic beast to the point of cutting off it's tail or breaking it's horn, knowing one wrong move could mean certain death, that is really a life on the edge feel to it.

I went on a couple hunts using the join quest function before going to bed last night, and it was so much fun fighting some high rank beasts and fighting along side other players besudes you amidst it all.

edit: how's everyone on their gear progression? I find that the basic Bone Armor set, once upgraded, can carry you pretty far, like to Coral Highland and later. I made the mistake of upgrading like 6~7 sets of armor together and now that I'm in high rank I realized most of them won't matter since I'm going to farm higher rank version of some of them and I coulda save the armor sphere+ for those instead. that'll be about 50+ armor sphere+ that I coulda use on some more advance gears instead. I think earlier on, maybe Bone, Highmetal, Anja, Rathalos or Odogaron set fully upgraded should be able to take care of most of your needs until high rank. of course that's just my opinion as a new player to MonHun. maybe some of the vets had better advice.

I think they couldve fixed the cutscene issue by taking a page from dark souls. By having the cutscene based on the host's game and the co-op players are merely absent (since it doesnt really count for story progression for them anyway.)

Im still pretty early i ro the game it seems. Ive only just killed the Tzitzu in the coral highlands. (which i dubbed Blue from jurassic world)

So you're disappointed that the game isn't so hard that it made you quit yet?

Anyhey, i'm over 100 hours in now. I've made most of the elements for IG, and made the Rathian bow for annoying melee fights (Kirin, Rathlos) and I'm having a blast. Now that my muscle memory is back for MH with the updated controls, I'm going to give Charge Blade another try. I played it a lot in 4U but didn't touch it in Gen thanks to SnS being so good in that game. I also spent a bunch of time going back through and capturing one of each monster to unlock all those arena quests, since I like seeing that big red COMPLETED next to my stars.

Is there anywhere with a complete list of quests by star rank yet? I want to make sure I'm not missing any non-arena ones.

Also, I'm not sure if everyone saw this already, but Gajinhunter made a video about Poogie. I had gone so far in the game that I thought his costumes were all not in the game yet or future DLC or something. Turns out they're just hard to find without knowing what to do.

Can't stand fighting Rathian and Rathalos... they always fly away and hit you with a lot of annoying attacks :( For some reason, land-based monsters are way easier...for me.

2017 was all Switch for me, so I'm looking to start putting my PS4 to use again (outside of Netflix).

Would I be missing out much by playing this fully single-player? I haven't got any experience with Monster Hunter outside of those easter egg missions in MGS: PW.

If you're just starting, I'd argue that single player would be the best way to get up to speed with the controls and the gameplay. It might be difficult at first, but if you stick with it until it clicks, you really get a feel for fighting the monsters solo (or even with cats to take the heat off). This game also has the ability to build a full team of 4 characters while solo, making it the most solo friendly game yet (imo). You can have yourself, your custom cat, a quested cat, and even a tamable monster from its respective zone all on your side at once.

I prefer single player as well and I was going in to this with it in mind, but the game does ease you in to MP very naturally. Playing with people isn't intimidating at all. I don't know if it's the monster hunter community or what but I find it quite enjoyable playing with people. Unlike COD you won't get shamed for messing up. At least from my experience anyway.

I just love the look of this Odogaron armor set. I just can't pull myself away from it:

And I just made this new set for my cat that is pretty sweet and goes with my armor:

yeah, the Odogaron set is really great looking and with great stats for how early you can get it right now if you farm the event hunt.

and I'm so jealous of that kitty set! I've only gotten one piece of sinister cloth from safari so far even thou I've been sending different cats out constantly. maybe I forgot to make sacrifice to the RNG God?

Anyone know how "sleep build up" works? cant find anything on google
when solo'ing, can put monsters to sleep 4-5 times using my radobaan weapon and cats sleep weapon, notice armor has this stat (baan alpha has lv2)

feel like once I finish the weapons tree and use this stat, monsters will be asleep half the match.

Last edited:
Status works as a build up, the more u hit the more a bar will fill until the eventual proc.
Monsters will build up resistances each proc, so it'll take more build up for subsequent procs. Every monster have different resistances so yeah - sleeping is a favourite as in groups it lets them rotate bombs.

Also yeah, status armor skills are really strong in world as higher tier not only increases flat stat on weapons but overall efficiency.

out on the road because of work and figure I'll at least use the Vita to remote play MonHun and do some farming/collecting/small monster culling, but sure enough I forgot to charge it and also managed to not find the charger. I'm currently in withdraw from the game and I'm pretty sure I'll be getting the shakes pretty soon.

I beat the game earlier today. That was a really fun ride! I did way more grinding than I needed to. I guess the real Dark Souls starts now.

This has to be the most playtime I've put into any game in this short of a time span. It might finally be time to do other things and give this a rest for a bit. Or not.

pfft, beating the game just means you can now focus on the real task at hand, hunting more awesome high rank monsters to get that sweet sweet loot for more cool armors and weapons.

I've been wanting to get the game but is it still worth getting without an enhanced console? I only have a base PS4 and after seeing the DF video I backed off from buying it because of the frame rate issues they showed on the base PS4/Xbox.

I don't really want to wait until Fall to play it on PC.

lol yeah I am still addicted to the game, but it does feel a little silly to keep going

I'm a little surprised that they didn't set it up so that you basically had to have specific gear or you'd physically be unable to beat some of the end bosses. I kept waiting for the giant difficulty spike. I guess that might be coming up in the post-game, but I'm still a little surprised by how accessible the story questline was.

from what I heard the issue mostly comes during the base hub and there's not much problem while you're out in the wild hunting, so it should be fine.

well, you have to get those cool top tier gear for your Palico man. you don't want your little kitty getting laugh at by all his kitty friends now do you? lol

as for the difficulty, I imagine since this is their first venture into the next gen and to capture the attention of a new group of players with MonHun, they probably don't want to make it too hard and scare people off. maybe the DLCs in the future will post some tougher challenge?

Made a crappy phPBB forum once ... once.
How do I get the login items?

It said something about a special item for 5 million sales (cant remember exact words) that is available but where would I see that?

Supposedly, you go to the housekeeper and claim the add-on bonus. I've checked mine everyday and it's not there. I read that they were sending them out in waves because it was hard sending it to 5 million people, but after like a week of checking every day, I've kinda given up.

So....Black Diabolos...

I think I'm doing awesome at this game, then there's always a monster to come around and push my shit in. Diabolos is always my weak spot in these games when he makes it in. I need to put some time into improving my fight with him. Anybody have advice? I'm mostly trying solo + 2 cats.

Best way to combat the negative affinity that Diablos SA gives? I made some HR Kulu gear but i only have +15.. need 15 more to be at 0
When you're using a DIablos weapon, you're trading crit for raw damage, so that's why it has negative crit. You would either use a different weapon, or build around not having crit.

To get crit/affinity, you should look at weakness exploit (50%), crit eye (up to 30%. There are other affinity stuff like crit draw, maximum might, but they're situational to activate the crit.

You could use screamer pods when he goes underground. I usually can avoid his ground attack pretty easily, and for his charge attack, I stay close to him and jump behind him when he looks like he's charging.

I keep screamers and flash pods when I'm able to during the fight, but he's just so damn fast when coming at you. Couple that with the fact that most of his body is a hitbox and I just can't find a safe space or distance to attack. I know one thing I need to try is not rising immediately after getting knocked down, to abuse the invincibility on the ground. I always go into panic mode, rise quickly and then get hit again trying to dodge out. Might also want to build an evade + skill armor set for the extra iframes. I've been coasting by on my maxed out Legiana HR gear for so long just for the bonus drops.

When he goes underground, it should be plenty of time to put away your weapon and shoot the ground. When he goes down, I usually run away from him. I think when he starts moving, he's homed onto your current position, so I just roll away twice to get out of it. Sometimes I'm unlucky and get hit, but I generally avoid it. Diablos just goes upwards from the ground, but Black Diablos can actually charge out of the ground, so I roll sideways. Again, if you have screamer pods, just shoot the ground when he starts moving and you should be able to get him. Remember to utilize mantles, I usually use vit, but ghillie if I want to heal up, and I use max level trap cat equipment for the thundertrap.

I feel like drops aren't worth it compared to actually having good skills on armor for damage. I don't know what weapons you're using, but odagoron set is pretty good for most things.

finally home and got in a hunt for Rathalos before my buddy got on and we went to do his assigned quest, killing Legiana. after finishing it off, I have enough Frost Sac to make a new ice bow, so we decided to do the new event that puts you in the arena with Diablos and 2 Barroth. first try since my friend didn't know about the traps and stuff in the arena, he ended up wasting the Dragonator and we lose it. second time I explained all the stuff inside to him a little better and let Diablos fight against Barroth as much as we can and just put in some damage whenever it's safe. both the Boulder Trap and the Dragonator connected this time, and after Diablos killed off the first Barroth, we start really putting in the pain and before long the 2nd Barroth pops up and they started up their turf war again. after a little more work, we stayed Diablos and make short work of the Barroth too. got some nice Diablos materials and my friend called it a night. a fun and productive night over all consider PSN was down for a while and I thought we won't be able to play together.

Great game deserves great success.

Also, sorry Nintendo.

I beat Black Diablo last night but I let it fight another Diablo that was roaming the area while I navigated their battlefield so as to not die, lol. Seeing them lock horns and and toss the loser was pretty awesome.

Interestingly enough, the Monster guide and found Black Diablos are female and in heat, that was kind of surprising! They never mentioned anything of that sort at all in the game. The game makes it seem like they get created by bioenergy or something, lol.

nice! the game’s quality definitely warrants it.

I got a completely different experience lol I just got to High Rank and hadn’t even get any of the high rank gears yet so figured I would go do some hunting. saw there’s a SOS flare by a HR14 hunter (I’m only 11) and thought that since I’m using bow and he’s on long sword, maybe this can work. pop in, didn’t recognize the icon of the monster on the map, but thought I’ll just try my luck anyway. turns out its Black Diablos kicking that guy’s butt, and she’s more than happy to share the butt kicking to me. one shot me with her charge and repeatedly doing it again and again. I got in some damage but probably just a scratch to her. later on another hunter joined us but after he got carted also, Black Diablos decided we’re just not worth her time and left the area. but then when I went on to hunt some other stuff in the area, Bazelgeuse decided to crash the party and while I didn’t get one shot by him, having him constantly butting in while I’m on the hunt just isn’t worth it, so I just went back to base and go do some other things instead.

Nah, I'm not sorry. Nintendo probably did some woo-ing to keep them on their system for many years with Tri, 4, and Generations, holding it back. Now Capcom knows they should just release it on the other consoles. They probably could have made buttloads if they had released it on the PlayStation and Xbox platforms. Edit: PC too.

Maybe they can also include the switch, but with the Switch's power, it might be hard for them to deal with the difference in graphical power between the switch and Xbone/PS4.

They're not even capitalizing on it fully. They could have done visual microtransactions on this game and made a shitton with vanity items. People would eat that shit up.

Damn, looks like the party is over for bow guns since they nerfed slicing ammo lol. I knew it was only a matter of time but eh, at least they also buffed normal and piercing ammo.

Shouta

So that was why I only could hold 30 ammo for slicing now. The damage didn't seem too radically different for me but that ammo nerf hurt. I was gonna focus more on piercing soon anyway, lol. I don't use HB much aside from multi so I didn't notice until I was refilling my stuff.

They nerfed slicing? oh man, no wonder it was sucking when I tried it today. I also was befuddled when I only had one craft.
For anyone looking for an alternative, just do piercing with legiana hbg, the pierce hbg which super fast fire rate with pierce ammo.

Anyway, screw HBG, my bow build is crazy good now. Level 3 crit weakness, level 3 crit boost, level 3 peak performance, and I just need attack gems and a normal ammo gem to get insane damage.

OMG I love the Meowsular Chef! I helped with expanding the Cateen's menu and now he's actually doing some cooking instead of just letting his sous chefs doing all the work. I'm finally eating some worthy meals XD
