Monster Hunter: World (PS4/XB1 early 2018, PC later, directed by MH4 lead planner)

So... The console versions are already undercut by the promise of a PC version? Yeah, no point getting the PS4 version, Sony really should've had them promise to announce a PC version later.

I think you're possibly right.

...well... that and possibly even Switch fans who are annoyed at Capcom for giving them a 3DS port.

Conversely, people actually not being pleased with the type of gameplay showed, such as the stealth.

But that'd be a reasonable interpretation. Everything needs to be viewed through fanboy goggles I guess no matter what side.

It will obviously be in the game but MH is about fighting monsters. How do you not show that in the trailer? I have a ton of faith in the main MH team but that trailer just didn't do it for me.

Tbh, the first Monster Hunter 4 trailer was even worse. I suppose you can't do justice to the series through the first trailer. They wanted to show the changes and the environment mostly.

Fujioka is the executive director. He's the series director for MH so that makes sense. Yuya Tokuda is the director for MHW and he was the lead designer on MH4 and co-directed MH4U iirc.
Oh yeah I remember about Tokuda. If Switch version continues then it must be Ichinose who will be directing.

Something they seemed to want to do with Monster Hunter 4 based on the initial trailer that they are finally doing with this game is fighting between monsters. Making two monsters fight will be pretty cool.

I would give anything for a PS4 type graphics MH5 main series someday, even on Tegra X2. Unless World sells off the charts, doubt the mainline series will come over to consoles yet. Maybe someday, but that day is not coming soon.

I feel like the rumor has colored people's perception before giving the game a fair shake. That plus the usual console warrior dickwaving, and a portion of the fanbase being completely resistant to change, seems to be generating a whole lot of animosity.

Capcom's done it to themselves by continuing to release shoddy products. And MVC:I isn't helping them at all.

The rumor goes two-fold, though
1 - It's Console Warrior dickwaving, which isn't fun
2 - It appears like it's being rushed to market (going by the rumor again, mind you) with a SFV-type of launch with limited stuff from the onset. Maybe that's why the PC version's coming later, cuz SFV had people hacking stuff in early.

I have to wonder what this game is for.
Helping console in japan would make sense if it was more traditional/5.
Don't imagine the game will appeal to much to core MH fans nor people not interested in MH either I'm not sure it'll sell too well either.
It's also not a looker.

I'm actually not a big fan of MH and I think the changes would result in a game that appeals to me more, but it's an odd situation.

They barely showed anything. It was a short trailer introducing the game.

Anyone taking much beyond the fact that there is a MonHun game coming to PS4/XB1 from what little they showed is majorly overreacting.

How about we try to remain objective and reserve judgement until we've seen a full gameplay walkthrough?

I hate stealth in games as a general rule so no I wouldn't.

did you know that there are stealth mechanics already in MH? Ever since 2004, in fact. :p

They just never touched on mechanics like that. A lot of MH has been left untouched for many years. This is them doing actual things with these mechanics.

I would? Go look at my post history when it comes to Monster Hunter.

I hated them adding mounting to 4 and I hated them adding styles and arts to X. This has nothing to do with what platform the game is on.

Fair enough, as long as you're consistent in your complaints. But MH has been heading down this over the top path for a long time. If you didn't like the over the top changes, what about the more realistic changes they're adding to make stalking and tracking more robust?

to be fair, Capcom's multiple previous attempts at trying to change beloved IPs to suit western tastes have done a lot of perception-coloring of their own.

the console war shit is insane to me as someone who just goes where MH does.

Haha yeah true.

That might in fact be why they started the X/XX line on 3DS to begin with. This definitely didn't start development yesterday, so they must have been planning for this since shortly after MH4.

I am reading Famitsu's comments and there's more positive comments than I expected.

Some port begging (for Switch, but I suppose we'll hear about MH5 for Switch soon), some complaining they shouldn't have bought a Switch then, some others saying it's time to buy a PS4.

A LOT of people don't get if the game is online only though, thinking it's like Frontier.

Nice. Glad Japan is onboard with MH consoles

Stalking and tracking is time wasting fluff that makes getting to the point of MH (the combat) take longer.

Try to be more open minded people. As a massive fan, i'm all for this new direction. If you ask me, it was about time that Monster Hunter does something different and innovate.

Oh that'd suck hardcore, all three weapons are awesome.

They are also by far the most densely mechanical of the weapons so I hope they aren't gone. As someone who's only played SwAxe from my back half of my time with 3U on that would legit be a deal breaker. I could also see them pairing down, simplifying or removing the bowguns.

Outside of Rath the colors and monsters look dull as hell. What is up with that t-rex? Like, they just put in a t-rex. No imagination at all. Hope that's not indicative of the rest of the new cast.

Agree. I mean, that T-Rex monster....don't give any vibe of MH at all. It just looks kinda generic? MH biggest pull had always the crazy unique monster styles. And no flagship monster is also another shocker.O_O

From what I saw I don't like the set pieces they had as it takes away from the whole freedom of doing your own thing. (Going through those green way points and running through the destructible environment.)

Everything else looked good though and I'm liking the new swinging mechanic. I have to see it run realtime with 4 players on the screen to make any sort of hard judgement.

Quite the opposite! I saw traditional Monster Hunter combat in the few moments we did get.

https://youtu.be/SXB2IHLm4m0?t=148

That right there is a slow-ass greatsword jumping attack. The combat's core will remain intact nearly for sure.

Yeah player movement and combat looks very true to monhun (I actually love how the animations feel so similar, yet updated). Grapple is new, so that's different -- but so was all the arial stuff and transforming weapons they added in the 3DS games. Honestly, the 3DS games brought it closer to other action games than this seems to be doing.

I mean, I loved Tri and MH3U on home consoles, but I've always been a fan of the portable titles more than the home console ones. What I wanted was MH5 on Switch, and hopefully that's what we're getting and this, as the leaks said, is just a spin-off.

I'll still try it. Who knows how it'll turn out, but I'm not very hopeful.

was MHG considered a spin off ?? because it was amazing and so addicting that i got a headache for 3 days from playing on my 3ds too much

i'll accept any MH on ps4, i can't go back to handheld MH, i just can't

Objective? I'm not the one making assumptions about why people reacted negatively to what was shown.

Yeah, I dunno. This team hasn't disappointed me so I'm sure it'll be good. I just didn't get inspired by that trailer. But maybe they'll have some more gameplay soon and they can turn it around for me.
