Monster Hunter: World (PS4/XB1 early 2018, PC later, directed by MH4 lead planner)

He would probably also say X or Freedom isn't a spin off? Whilst the community says they are.

Anyway the extended version of the trailer is much more comforting, watching it multiple times make it appear like the chase sections act like pseudo arena changes. But please cap on don't lose the MH charm.

I think spin off or not is a semantic. Its not a spinoff like airus village or stories. However its not a numbered title. So its more comparable to X

Just read some of the thread. I totally get the backlash from longtime fans if they feel this is a big departure. I absolutely loathe FFXV for that reason.

But yeah, this in no way seems like a thrown together "spinoff" or whatever. This will definitely be marketed as a major/mainline release.

So they are investing a lot, treating as a mainline game, announcing in the biggest gaming event of the world, in a press conference no less!, being developed by their internal team.

But they're just treating it as a mainline game but it's actually not?

right lol

Wouldn't make much sense to slap a number on it if they try to reach a new audience. It's more likely to alienate MH fans that way.

People are saying it's Westernized, because it borrows gameplay elements from other games. Like tracking from Witcher 3? I haven't played Witcher 3, so I guess that's the yellow glowing stuff in MHW.

I guess you could also use a Psychoserum, but maybe that's out of the game.

Any other things it borrows from other games?

How i said, this looks more lile a reboot of the Main Series than a normal Main entry. (even new Logo etc.)

I can see totaly a MH World portable happen...more than a MH5.

I think it's because the original rumor that confirmed this game pretty much said "PS4 is getting an HD Western Focused Monster Hunter Spinoff and Switch is getting MH5 developed by the original team." Now it seems like some of that might be wrong, but it's too soon to tell yet.

Rumor says opposite. For how many times in this thread, people keep saying the game confirmed the rumor thus MH5 is coming to Switch. Because rumor says the console game is the mainline game and Capcom is backing PSP-era and make separate handheld game series.

If it takes off, they may as well. Multiple formats=larger playerbase. If they flops, then MH is pretty much locked as a handheld game. I hope it sells well because the world needs more MH.

Hope they didn't cut out its charm to westernize it more... and you can turn off detective vision...

I imagine, and hope, it is more like a Psychoserum/Paintball effect that only appears once you've used one of those or have gear with the passive skill that allows you to track. If so, just seems like a flashier way of implementing the tracking rather than a blob on the mini-map

It's possible. When they announce a new portable MH they could call it whatever they want, if they market it as a mainline entry that's what it will be. Capcom is trying to adapt the game to appeal to the west so some gameplay changes are expected, but this in no way would make the game a spin off.

Actually it's not the first time Capcom does this. Resident Evil is a prime example for this kind of approach.

The footage kind of looked like an early build, so I'm surprised that it's coming out early 2018.

I hope they're not releasing it with little content to build it afterwards like SF5.

You guys are way too hung up on semantics lol

Spin off or not they'll push this all the same. It looks too big a departure to me but I'm willing to give it a shot

That would make sense, unless they are pulling a "your character has special powers" bullshit. Would also be cool if it means no traditional map.

i agree i was down on it at first but it looks like it could be fun.

People insisting that they will totally make a separate game(even called MH5) sound like Vita fans circa 2012.

Considering all that appears to be going on, it's like you're playing devil's avocate. Lol. All of the other things from that rumor has been true, and we got an insider that basically said the same thing, so we should discredit thoughts about a "MH5."

MHW is for the West. That's who the main target is, it's Capcom's attempt at getting a big seller outside of Japan. Its gameplay systems are being changed in order to reach that goal.

Traditional MH will continue on portable systems.
Man, and to think that this scenario was basically considered as fan fiction for good reasons.

They will probably have a separate MH for Switch, I think. The game is set on a new continent, which I think is as good of an excuse as it can be to have it be it's own thing isolated from the main games.

They'll probably release Monster Hunter 5 on Switch. Maybe they'll do something like what they did with Resident Evil 7. Use roman numbers, put a V as a U in a different color. If things go badly, they can just use a 5 on a different games.

What's described make it sound like you can't just set a party from the get go, but you just send signals if you're in danger. Hopefully traditional coop is part of the game.

It's cool that they're trying to expand the series to a wider audience and that more people will get introduced to the series.

That being said, I'm kind of lukewarm to what's been shown here so far, especially in regards to gameplay. The trailer is not very inspiring. But let's see how it evolves!
That is sort of how I feel. I need more details about it because what they showed combat wise was ehh.

I hope that RE VII is not what will happen to MH saleswise, this would be the worst case for this IP.

I´m happy that MH gets more attention, there a a few games that need this type of treatment.

The Wonderfull 101 should have been Multi to, best P* Game ever made. Everyone needs to play it :p

Port beggin is bannable right?

Wait what are you basing your co-op comment on? The way I read the OP is that the game will haved drop in drop out co-op. It doesn't read like "no co-op parties". That would be insane especially in the West.

the muted reaction in here reminds me of the tepid receptions scalebound got. Rip.

Also I just noticed but holy cripes the boxart is terrible LOL

reversible covers please capcom

It's like I said elsewhere, I'm not mad about Monster Hunter Worlds and I hope it does whatever Capcom is expecting it to do, but if by the end of the Nintendo Conference there's no confirmed US release for Monster Hunter XX I'm gonna be upset.
I think it's going to be important for XX to beat World to a western release by a significant margin.

Anecdotally, everyone I informed about World existing said they would hold off on XX if they have to decide between them. It does look old and outdated compared to this, there's just no denying that. A western release of XX this year is in their best interest to make it stand on its own, imo.

Is this using art assets from the old MH MMO?

I'm interested in what the combat is like in actual gameplay as that's what turned me off about the series when I tried it on Wii U and 3DS. Felt very dated and clunky but the overall idea of the game greatly appealed.

Damn, Switch owners got absolutely B O D I E D with this announcement, I wonder how they're all holding up today

I mean this is the Monster Hunter we need, finally playing on the most power console so far. Can't wait for it to come out, def going to be a monster hunter for the ages

Nintendo guys I'm here as a shoulder to cry on if you need me :^)

EDIT: Nevermind I looked at this thread LMAO not well it seems

Only played Monster Hunter for a bit on the psp. But what is the difference between this one and the others, it looks kinda the same?

Judging by the trailer it looks more streamlined. Maybe even more "catered" to western tastes.

My fear is that it becomes more like a hack and slash, similar to MH clones, instead of a more strategic kind of gameplay.

I mean that's hardly surprising in some ways. XX is an expansion of a game MH fans have likely already played while MHW is a fresh, brand new take on the franchise. I think XX's performance depends more on Japan where the majority of traditional fans exist, but even in Japan expectations have to be tempered given the recent 3DS release.

Old, as in Frontier? Obviously not, since those are literal PS2 era assets.

Old, as in from the cancelled UE4-powered Frontier sequel? Now that would be interesting, though there would be no way of knowing for sure since that was never publicly revealed or even leaked.

I hope it sells well because the world needs more MH.

Me, too, for Capcom's sake because if it doesn't the concern will shift from the future of Monster Hunter to the future of its architect. Capcom is my second favorite publisher and they need this to be big, legitimately.

Feels good to finally see some new assets in Monster Hunter, but there's something off. It looks kinda bland visually, where the colour? The monster also looks boring, it's just a T-Rex with some fur. Show me them crazy colourful ones, show me the cool equipment.

Looks great. As someone who still spent some 100 hours with several of the last MH entries I can safely say that they've become archaic and need to go away. The trailer has shown exactly the right amount of evolution.

Well, he got his inflatable nose thing going for him. But yeah, between him and good ol' Rath it is kinda bland. Hopefully the game'll see some of the crazier monsters from previous entries (like Nargacuga/Zinogre/Brachydios) and a few fun among the new ones.

So, why are people hating on this game exactly? Like, I've never played Monster Hunter before, but I think this looks fucking amazing!?

It's weird y'all are just now noticing but Lost Planet has used very similar animations to MonHun since the series was created just now MonHun took the grappling hook
Well sure. When I first saw Lost Planet 2 my initial reaction was "So it's Monster Hunter with guns?" But the structure ended up being fairly different. We've gone full circle. lol
