Looks interesting. I've played Monster Hunter from the beginning and have started to get a little burnt out on the same old formula, so I don't mind it evolving a little. Though some aspects looked a little weird. I'll keep an eye on it and probably give it a shot. Worldwide release and HD console is a plus.

So, why are people hating on this game exactly? Like, I've never played Monster Hunter before, but I think this looks fucking amazing!?
Videogame series that's conservative as fuck gameplay-wise breeds conservative as fuck fans.

Personally I'm excited for the evolutions to the series, will probably get it day one (same with MHXX) unless the upcoming gameplay footage turns me off.

You could read the thread.

Long story short it doesn't look like Monster Hunter.

Looked like Monster Hunter to me. I feel like some of you were just ready to dislike this game before the trailer dropped all because of that rumour riling you up. I don't know how anyone who has played these games seriously can look at that trailer and honestly say "that doesn't look anything like Monster Hunter".

This is the issue right here. The series is stagnating and it needs a major shake up. Wait until y'all have seen more before putting on the waterworks. I honestly believe you'll like some of the changes that they have yet to announce.

It's another MH spinoff like MHX, except the changes here are seen as too egregious and "not" MH, whereas MHX arguably had a ton of changes as well.

They also don't like that the game evolved in certain aspects, like the grappling hook thing. Games tend to evolve over time, especially when a portable game actually gets on a console.

The only thing I really hate is the carving.

Except that it absolutely looks like Monster Hunter. Is this now like Pokemon, where people have been fed the exact game so many times, that they think it's the norm to never have gameplay evolution? Hell, apart from not being technically archaic anymore, the core elements couldn't be closer to MH. The battle sytem looks exactly like what we now.

Graphically it looks different, but just from the snippet of gameplay of MH world, it looks kinda similar, fighting large monsters (I know there's more to MH). It looks different but doesn't look drastically different.
Granted I haven't played enough of it, so maybe it's just from my point of view.

Judging by the trailer it looks more streamlined. Maybe even more "catered" to western tastes.

My fear is that it becomes more like a hack and slash, similar to MH clones, instead of a more strategic kind of gameplay.

I can see that. I think we need to see more of it to see which direction it's truly going.

Machine guns
Bad game design (detective) vision
Open world
Mid fight cutscenes (the water washing you and the monster away)

None of that belongs in Monster Hunter.

Honestly I'm not sure why people are hating on this game, because it looks great maybe? For the first time the graphics don't look like 3DS graphics but upscales into Wii-U levels of quality. Honestly only way they could do that is to leave nintendo platforms which are all underpowered anyway and can't serve Capcom's needs?

I mean it's the next step so gotta keep or get left behind. Why can't people just be happy we have a new Mon Hun game coming out that looks great and plays different?? Potential downplaying maybe????Seeing a lot of it in this thread, gotta smh

Embarrassing.

What? Come on now it's a game even though it sucks that it's leaving nintendo we should be happy it's a new monster hunter game after like forever, and on console too

Stay positive friendo :^)

Damn, Switch owners got absolutely B O D I E D with this announcement, I wonder how they're all holding up today

I mean this is the Monster Hunter we need, finally playing on the most power console so far. Can't wait for it to come out, def going to be a monster hunter for the ages

Nintendo guys I'm here as a shoulder to cry on if you need me :^)

EDIT: Nevermind I looked at this thread LMAO not well it seems

You're not wrong. Some people are blowing things way out of proportion.

It's not open world just because they cut loading times and crappy small maps. It's called "not being a PS2 game anymore", for crying out loud, lol. You know what's bad game design? The harvesting quests in old Monster Hunter, thank god for "detective vision". There were always guns in Monster Hunter. There were "cinematic" parts in battles of Monster Hunter.

What are you talking about man.

The trailer combined with the name sure make it seem that it is.

It isn't. This is why I keep telling people to stop taking everything from that rumour as gospel. It got some key things correct but a lot of it is bullshit and conjecture, including the information about it being fully open world.

"Monster Hunter World"

"Travel seamlessly without load screens"

I mean....

That doesn't make it open world. Villages will still be hubs that you have to depart from via a loading screens for example.

Yeah it definitely looks like Monster Hunter to me. I get the impression that some MH fans are just so used to the series barely evolving throughout it's lifespan that any big change ends up turning them off.

Which might cause me to actually want to play it. I hated the way Monster Hunter felt in the past. This seems like a breath of fresh air.

I think its a mistake to chase people who dont like the aesthetic of your game. You can only be something you're not for so long.

The amount of pearl-clutching is kind of hilarious.

Stop embarassing yourself. I used to be you so I'll tell you this, both experiences can exist. Give the developers opportunity to experiment and the audience will decide what belongs in Monster Hunter based on feedback. Also mid-fight cutscene? What part of that looked like a cutscene and not a dynamic event that occurs during the fight? To me it looked something like terrain tilt at heaven's mount.

We should truly hate on Capcom for removing load screens. Not my Monster Hunter! (what the hell is going on here, haha).

Maybe you should think about how removing the arenas map style will change the gameplay and mechanics before jumping down peoples throats. You cant just remove those things and have everything be the same. People can be concerned and should be if it just uses The Witcher 3 system now.

I see it as no different to the Elder Dragon fights in MH3 and 4. Some of those were full on set pieces and didn't follow the conventional MH battle formula in the slightest, but those games were okay. The hostility to change is what's going to lead this franchise to further stagnating and ultimately dying.

It might as well be. You're stuck doing nothing waiting until you can fight the monster again as you watch the water push you down the cliff.
Yeah no, that looked like a natural environment event, which you probably can evade before the water gets you and probably even struggle out of it if you're fast/good enough before it pushes you off.

Yeah, removing the defined arenas in an arena fighter is no big deal.

People are salty for a variety of reasons, but rest assured that the game is developed by Capcom's star MH team. That's all you need to know for now. The 20th we'll get a full reveal, so expect a lot more bruised egos and salty shitposts.

This E3 has taught me that people just want to play the same games over and over again.

Monster hunter
God of War
Spiderman

I thought it had been established that it was in fact still made up of defined arenas, but instead of them being connected by loading screens, it's done organically (Metroid Prime snake tunnel style) by a small diving passage or having to pass through thorns or something.

Maybe let's wait until more information becomes available and some solid gameplay footage before passing judgement without having it played? :)

But it's not unprecedented, so maybe we should wait until we know more before claiming it isn't a real Monster Hunter game? You'll see soon enough that it's still the MH you know and love.
