Most Chipotle meals are over 1000 calories and a day's worth of sodium (NYT)

nothing wrong at all with eating one thousand calories and a crapload of sodium in one sitting. the issue (obviously) is when you do it every day, or multiple times a week, etc..

My typical bowl is 740 calories. If you order smart, you're fine. 740 out of a 2,000 calorie diet (the standard measurement) is fine for 1 full meal.

If you get chips, Coke, guac, tortilla....yeah, you'll get half your amount of calories in 15 minutes.

My chipotle order is usually my meal for the day. There are weeks where I eat it everyday. Only supplement some extra protein. It's great for lifting/cutting. Good macros.

The shells have like 400 calories. Just get a salad and skip the Guac. Congrats one of the healthiest lunches you can get for seven bucks.

2400 calories a day? What do you allocate to food per month. I only average 1250 a day and my food bills are already $200/month. Couldn't imagine spending almost twice that.

I doubt I eat 2400 calories very often, if ever. Just pointing out that apparently for my body type, age, gender, a 1,000 calorie lunch isn't shocking.

I split groceries with my GF. Probably about $50/week at the store and $50 on eating out. So $400/month.

Idk I make sure they only put 1236 grains of rice in my burrito and rip the tortilla so it's square instead of round and don't put the guac in but just kind of wave it over the burrito. Cuts a lot of cals, ya'll just aren't trying hard enough.

Brown Rice, Chicken, Corn, Cheese and lettuce only runs me about 600cal and fills me up, it's been helping a lot with my midnight food runs and I've been losing some weight. If you eat 2 burritos a day there with a lot of shit you'll get fat, but I don't think anyone could eat that much food, most people I know only eat half and save the rest for later

Get a salad with with chicken but no sour cream and guacamole, and choose either rice OR beans (no need for 2 high carb choices) and you're under 500 calories with a good amount of protein. This is much better for you than a Subway sandwich. Sodium isn't that bad for you if you offset it by either drinking lots of water or getting lots of potassium.

Thought Emoji Movie was good. Take that as you will.
The menus here in Portland state the calorie info up on the board.

Also, most fast casual is loaded with calories.

Chipotle is the biggest joke ever. Their food isn't even that great and you have to stand in line forever. It doesn't really even taste that "fresh" or "natural". The cilantro in the rice is good, though.

That's why you get a burrito bowl without rice. I always get extra black beans and other healthy crap. The healthiest burrito bowl I walked out with was around 500 calories but still had a high amount of sodium which was around 700.

Qdoba is better though.

I work for a delivery service and I once had a guy order a Quesarito from Chipotle with double barbacoa, Sofritas, white rice, black and pinto beans, hot sauce, sour cream, and extra cheese.

They could barely wrap the tortilla. I can only image the amount of calories in that.

If I eat chipotle for lunch it is the only thing I eat until dinner. And even then, I get something small. Cant fathom wanting to eat more after getting a bowl with every option on it.

Your basic soda, fries and burger from a chain is around 900cals. Calorie dense isn't necessarily bad, you just have to make sure your next meal(s) isn't throwing you over the edge.

If you just load it with carbs and protein it'll mitigate the calorie density. It's when you start mixing fats the calories jump.

I once saw a man get a burrito with white rice and sour cream... And that's it. Nothing else in the burrito, it was the most horrible thing I'd ever seen.

On topic, just skip the sour creme and guac. Put it in a bowl and you are good to go. It's not chipotles fault people can't control themselves.

Not surprising. I usually get a bowl and its easily two meals for me, and like 3 for my girlfriend who's super tiny.

I've never had Chipotle but I'm pretty sensitive to salt these days and having 2000 in one meal would probably bloat me up for the next week. If I order fast food I usually have to look online to find the stuff with the least salt and it ends up with me usually folding and having to deal with gaining 5 pounds over night and losing it over the next week.

1000 calories doesn't seem like much of a big deal though depending on I guess what you're planning on having for breakfast and dinner.

That's probably because you are only limiting yourself to certain foods.

There are certainly very cheap ways to get lots of calories.

So you can eat 1 or 2 everyday and get all your nutrients without getting fat. That is pretty good for a chain fast food restaurant. Too bad that much sodium is problematic

I only ever order the Veggie Burrito Bowl anyway (no Guacamole). I also probably only patron a Chipotle maybe a half dozen times a year.

Now I want some Chipotle.

Chipotle is spanish for life though. Anyway, yeah the calories are posted in the restaurant just like like every other fast food place. I love how the people buying the bowl are usually the large people fooling themselves into beleiving they are somehow eating diet food because its in a bowl and because they added lettuce lol. The way chipotle serves those bowls they may aswell the trouphs.

Why though? The bowls are a ripoff; they aren't as tasty as the burittos and way too expensive for something that doesn't fill you up. No sour cream and cheese just makes it bland.

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?
Mine is between 600-700 calories.

Not bad, really.

Breakfast: PB2 and a bannana - ~150 calories
Lunch: Chipotle: 700 calories (sofritas, double veggies, two salsas, sour cream, lettuce. rice if I'm feeling dangerous)
Dinner: "square meal" (protein, veggie, starch) made at home: ~800 calories

Snack: Quest bar (200 calories), small candy (~150 calories)

Total: 2000 calories a day, and that's on the high end; I usually come out to about 1700-1800 calories.

I eat Chipotle at least three times a week.

Bowls are good stuff

They are better than the burritos though in my opinion. I mean how tasty is a tortilla? Not very to me at least...

I can't see how anyone wouldn't be full from a bowl though. That is crazy, it's a ton of food.

It only seems like that because of the filler rice. That's another thing to go easy on, skip the rice and just get beans and the meat choice plus veggies.

No cheese, rice, guac, sour cream, or wrap? Doesn't sound like Chipotle anymore.

If you're ordering Chipotle as anything other than like, your primary meal for the entire day complemented by snacks you're doing it wrong

Also jesus stop eating sour cream people

The salad bowl I usually get (romaine lettuce, black beans, chicken, veggies, mild salsa) comes in at 385 calories. The sodium is at 985 mg though, which is much higher than I thought it would be. Looks like if I cut out the salsa then it will come in at 330 calories and 740 mg of sodium.

The sodium is still higher than I'd like it to be, but overall it still seems like a filling and relatively healthy meal the once or twice a month I eat there.

1,000 isn't a lot if you're a moderately active male with a decent metabolism (ie it hasn't slowed from having lost a lot of weight).

Ex: breakfast - 500 calorie meal from eggs and some fruit

Lunch - Chipotle 1000 kcal meal

Dinner - 1000 kcal meal

Total - 2500 kcal

For many guys who are in shape, that is still below maintenance
