Mother Jones: "Romney Tells Millionaire Donors What He REALLY Thinks of Obama Voters"

CNN's even downplaying it with their title. I can never understand why people think CNN has a liberal bias.

CNN has bias only for itself. It will stretch out any discussion/debate/event so as to NEVER give a definite answer or angle on it.

They just want people to keep coming back, to keep watching/reading.
We saw the same nonsense with the Republican debates - the press sitting on the fence, not to be 'unbiased' but so as to never give a 'definite' answer.

Its actually working against them in the long term (falling viewers), but it remains the strategy behind their domestic political reports.

Except that he didn't say what 90% of this thread is accusing him of saying when he "hand-waved" 47% of Americans off as being "worthless human beings".

He was talking about their votes, not them as people. Did he later say they were mooching off of gov't? Yes he did. Did he say they were lazy? Yes he did. But none of that adds up to the "these people aren't worth our time" accusation the thread is laying out. He said there was nothing he could do to convince them - he did not say there's nothing I will do help them. That's a big distinction that this thread doesn't seem to want to consider because oh my god, republicans are all horrible people!

90% of the people pasting his direct quote?

And again, you're still here making an argument that someone said "HE SAID HES NOT GOING TO HELP POOR PEOPLE!!!!!! THATS A FACT, THATS WHAT HE SAID!!!" - gaf poster(left)

The problem, once again, has been stated by you, but missed. He called 47% of people lazy moochers. You don't have a problem with that, and its fine. But get your argument right. Specifically state who it is you're arguing with, and stop lumping this thread into that argument.

The attitude behind what e said is that poor people aren't worth the time. He is insulting them, people you insult are rarely worth your time. The only way to ever know what he really tinkgs, is to be inside of his mind. Outside of that, everyone can use their own social upbringing to know what disdain is, and how it manifests in treatment of others. You can't make this connection, again, great. But there is something to it, that others pick up on.

People aren't OK with what was bolded. And the attitude that is behind it, isn't conducive to supporting the poor.

Agreed lol

I see it as, the same comment that Mitt made is often used by the far right to annoy/denounce a democrat. When the highest representative of the right - the candidate for POTUS - says that, it's hard NOT to interpret it as an insult.

This is what every media outlet does. Why do you think Fox leans so far to the right? Because they recognized there's an audience there, and an opportunity to make money.

Same goes for MSNBC - they just picked the other side's pocketbooks to go after.

CNN is stuck in a culture of pre-partisan networks, and that's their problem and why they will cease to exist very shortly.

Fuck, I really want to vote Green Party this election but Mittens is so fucking crazy I'm not sure I can't note vote for Obama. God damn you two party system.

Thinking that Fox and MSNBC are opposite but equal is disingenuous.

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if Mitt knew the electoral map was stacked against him and he's just decided to be as memorably crazy as possible.

"Fuck it, I'm no Bob Dole!"

Oh good GOD.

Oh wait, troll account confirmed? lol.. man u had me going1!! No way anyone could try and make up arguments in a tread that absolutely no one made, and retort them, all while ignoring what everyone else is discussing! haha, shoulda known better... Good job dude!

hahaha no.. CNN is so self conscious about being accused of bias these days that they would have a story about how democrats say 2+2=4, republicans say 2+2=13 and would present both sides of the argument as equally valid with no actual objective insight.

What do you mean? Do you mean "Fox is further right than MSNBC is left"?

I'm just talking about the audiences they are catering to - not how far to the extreme the content actually is. It's pretty apparent who MSNBC is going after - the "Not Fox" audience.

Again, all these networks care about is money. If Fox somehow didn't exist tommorrow, MSNBC would flip if they thought there was more money in catering to that crowd.

I'm not making up any arguments. And I'm not ignoring what everyone else is discussing, I even said so myself in my first or second post in this thread. However, you seem to be a pretty good job of trying to put words in my mouth and ignoring things that I've said.

God damn you two party system.

I have to say - I have no idea why this isn't a bigger issue in the US (okay I do, its all down to nationalism within how great the system is when its obviously not, but its still barmy). I just wonder how many times American's will hear the phrase 'clean up Washington' before getting a bit pissed off and asking 'how' the Politician asking for their vote plans to do that (again, the American ideal of a politician inspiring everyone into action by just being 'strong' kind of gets in the way here (unfortunately unlike in Hollywood there is no brass track to their daily routine)).

A two party system just isn't a very free system to have, it stops change or the political will of the people.
Instead businesses/private people fund the two candidates they most want to win. They create a win win situation for them.

I actually don't think it would be as suicidal to frame a debate on political reform (proper reform) as some US politicians think; but certainly its a pretty toxic atmosphere.

On this Romney video anyway - its a torpedo in him bringing up the lazy comment to try and embarrass Obama at the debates.

Can you imagine even George W. Bush saying something so horrid? This guy literally disdains anyone who isn't rich. I feel bad for the GOP for being stuck with such a incredible selfish asshole.

It's like he's actively trying to make himself less palatable to independents. I remember watching the GOP debates and wishing, by some miracle, that Santorum would get the nomination just so we could get moments like these. Next up, what Mitt Romney really thinks of gay people.

This country's whole political apparatus is not conducive to the existence of third parties. Third parties that achieved any sort of clout would just get sucked up by one of the two bigger parties - it's big-tent politics - forming alliances with others that may not agree with you 100%, but agree with you more than the other guy and is worth combining forces with. The entire system of this country would have to change and by God that is never going to happen.

Depressed again.

ugh.

Wow. Unfortunately, I can't say that I'm too surprised. Honestly, I'm more surprised he lacked the common sense to avoid blurting out such offensive statement.

What's sad is that he probably thinks he's entitled to all the loopholes he takes advantage of.

I...I should never have left politics. I should be back in DC right now, fighting against this man. I can't think of another time in history when a man runing for fucking President of the United States spoke with such disdain about the people of this nation. It blows my mind.

Fuck you, Mitt.

Sooo....are you saying you wish we were all dead?

re: Romney's comment. I see some people running with the "My job is not to worry about those people...." and spinning it into "fuck these people" but.....he's talking about trying to win their votes. The rest of the speech I can't really defend.

yeah... that's not actually what he's saying. I know you'd like it to be what he's saying because you want to be able to identify as republican and also not hate yourself, but that's not what he meant when he talked about them paying no income tax and it's not what he meant when he said "I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

He's talking about them as more than just voters.

Oh, and here's another fun graphic:

Which states have the highest proportion of non-income-tax-payers? (shown in red)

Gee whillikers, how will Romney ever convince the Deep South to vote for him?

Source

When are you guys going to drop Arizona through Carolina?

LOL @Drudgereport headline:

"ROMNEY GETS REAL: OBAMA SUPPORTERS 'DEPENDENT ON GOVERNMENT'"

This could sink him or turn him into GODZILLA Romney. I really don't know what to think.

Fuck you, Mitt.

Yeah. I'm the voter mitt wants and he can get fucked. I don't even like Obama and Im gladly voting for him over Romney. Worst candidate ever.

Isn't Mitt shitting on a lot of his own voters?

A lot of his own supporters pay no income tax because they don't make enough. Are they all a bunch of shiftless good-for-nothing people that don't take any personal responsibility?

BTW, Mitt . . . if you want those people to pay more in income tax then don't buy companies, fire the employees, and then offer to hire them back at lower wages where they may no longer have to pay income tax.

I am a Republican and I do not hate myself. What now?

Well, I imagine a lot of those people, like the elderly, don't consider themselves part of the 47% that Republicans constantly demonize.

You can even see glimpses of this in his public statements:

“I’m not concerned about the very poor. We have a safety net there. If it needs repair, I’ll fix it.”

“I’m not concerned about the very rich, they’re doing just fine. I’m concerned about the very heart of the America, the 90, 95 percent of Americans who right now are struggling and I’ll continue to take that message across the nation.”

He clearly feels these people are beyond help. Gotta focus on those you can do something about, the poor are stuck down there according to him. He just altered the numbers so as to not alienate half the country like he actually means.

Really contrasts with the DNC theme of "We're all in this together".

Holy fuck. That is devastating.

To answer my own question . . . . Yes, he really is shitting all over his own supporters.

Honestly I never really felt one way or another about Romney (other than I disagree with his politics), but this video really does make him look like a piece of shit.

When Republicans have nothing else to use against a man they start obsessing about where his penis has been.

I'm a liberal. Commedieu asked me this question out of nowhere a while back in a thread about music because he wanted to be an asshole. So I was just returning the favor.

They're also pretty ignorant if they've stuck around this long already. He doesn't have to worry about scaring away people who refuse to vote in their own best interest. PEACE.

Yep. None of this means anything, as we can see from the handful of republican gaf here. Its not about what he says, or does, or hides. Its that he isn't obama imo. Thats really the only reason, as they agree on most things substantial.

Ah, I apologize for that. I thought you were & the thread was discussing sex... could have mistaken you for another poster.
